What if Solas is race gated against elves? Now that you all hate me, let me explain. Considering we're stuck being Dalish, it leaves open the possibility that one of the elves may be anti-Dalish. If Solas grew up hearing stories about the Dalish fighting the good fight, he may have left the alienage to find them when he discovered he had magic. As we know, most Dalish don't really care about CEs. But if he happened across a particularly hostile clan, he may have spent time with them before growing to resent them and leaving.
It would explain why he has no vallaslin and doesn't look like a mage from a circle (yet seems to have had magical training). If he is indeed withdrawn and solitary, it would make sense for him to be. If he feels as though he doesn't belong anywhere (in an alienage as a mage, a tower with mostly humans, or with the Dalish) he may prefer to be isolated. If he learnt the fundamentals of magic from a Keeper, he may have had a natural curiosity to find out more after he left, or was seeking out ways to protect himself from demons which lead to studying the Fade.
Anyway, I think it would be an interesting take on an elf. Sera could hate the Dalish instead of course. That would also be interesting to me.
It's possible, but I'd consider it unlikely.
Elves in general (Dalish or not) are so generally frowned upon by non-elves that I would suspect it's more likely for us to see an elf gated against all other races romantically than an elf gated against other elves. This is particularly true for any elf character who may be interested in a family, since any children with a non-elf will not only not be elves, but will be frowned upon by humans as being "lesser," somehow. Even aside from the possible family situation... An elf with a human or dwarf won't be seen as an equal. The elf probably couldn't marry a human (I'm not sure on that but I STRONGLY doubt that such marriages are condoned in Thedas).
An elf gated against other elves, yes, even the Dalish (since most city elves kind of fawn over the Dalish and it wouldn't surprise me if elf Circle Magi feel the same) could be that way because of hatred of the Dalish, yes. We've seen some rather self-interested Dalish clans; not all clans are that way, however. But alternately it could simply be that the elf hates being an elf or is ashamed of it--self-loathing. I don't get that impression from Solas. As others pointed out, he could very well be bald because it makes his ears very prominent. And I wouldn't want to have a character who has that much self-loathing be a romance option for anyone, in any case.
And having said all that, if Solas is available, I don't think he'll be open to everyone. He might be gated against humans but open to all other races--and that would make more sense with the Orlesian situation than his being gated against elves. More likely, everyone (except maybe qunari?) would be able to romance him but it would be based on their actions.
However, at this point, it looks like Iron Bull is at least a fling option. I think we can give up on Solas being available at all. If he is, we can be pleasantly surprised by that--just think like Garrus and prepare for the worst so it doesn't hurt as much when we learn Solas is not available to our preferred Inquisitors.
