So assuming some of the theories about Solas are correct in regards to The Masked Empire stuff, would that change how you feel about the character we'll be inquisiting with? Would you trust him? Would he even be someone capable of being a love interest?

Would I trust him?  Hmm... I don't think I would, but I think one of my more chaotic Inquisitors would enjoy his company anyway.  Would I romance him?  Yes 'Cause, you know, he seems to be a pretty knowledgeable guy so maybe he could... teach my Inquisitor a few tricks.  And anyway, he's the perfect LI:

So then the question would be who would be the Order and Chaos between Dorian and Solas?

Dorian wants to turn Tevinter away from the excesses of the Magisters so he's more chaotic in the revolutionary sense. Judging from the way he's dressed and the fact that he doesn't have Dalish markings, Solas appears to be unaligned with any faction we know of. He's a Fade expert (Supernaturalist?) so either he has Somniari powers or he's studied places where the Veil is thin, like Blackmarsh. For all we know he could be some kind of Druid or shaman.

I'm no author but I'd think it would be neat if he was one of Malcolm Hawke's mercenary buddies (or apprentice) from the "let's seal away some ancient evil" days who ended up settling down as well. There's a lot of Malcolm's past left ambiguous outside of Legacy and his time in Kirkwall and he just seems like a really neat character.

I definitely get the "monk/shaman/druid" vibe from him. Far more than an "apostate on the run roughing it in the wilderness" vibe.

Well... now we have SOMETHING for all the companions... whether official or not... so hopefully now is meaty stuff. I do wish they had waited on Varric a bit. Perhaps they're still working on those final textures. What was up with Cole being 80% temp texture?

I'm also wondering if they're still working on Solas model. It seems like he's still getting tweaks here and there to his face between some of the screen-shots. (seems, for all I know he could have been the same all this time) I won't lie, side and profile, he's looking REALLY GOOD. But straight on? Eggghhh... could use some tweaking. (Given, I liked how he looked in his alternate outfit sheet. But the one where he has Cassandra behind him I thought would be good with some tweaking)

 

Edit: Given it all could have been the same and I'm just going crazy!

I suddenly wonder what conversations might take place if we took our companions to the Ball. Yes, we discussed this already, but I find myself only now taking into account that we need to infiltrate it (and possibly crash it) in order to stop an assassination. I wonder if I'd be like the Citadel DLC where whoever you take as your 'date' on the Infiltration mission eventually has to be used as a distraction.

 

Cole would be very useful (of course), but Solas... can you imagine him having to nerd out on someone as a distraction? Start off with current events and the fade rips and then, before you know it, he's talking about all sorts of things like how the structures in the fade have little windows on them. Or Sera acting like she is some important lady and causing a ruckus when someone mistakes her for a servant? Iron Bull could probably just stand there and obstruct someone's view. He's a distraction all in himself. And so on and so forth?

Just figured I'd mention nobody get excited about any potential reveals today.

 

Going by the current pattern, since Cole was revealed yesterday, today's update is likely the interview with his writer. Which'll be cool to get confirmation on who that is (although we're all pretty much expecting it's David Gaider).

 

But I would suspect no potential Solas stuff until tomorrow.

 

Unless they prove me wrong and do it like E3 week and do a quote/picture reveal for Dorian/Solas today and tomorrow, and THEN unleash the writer interviews.

 

So, wait, did I totally just recommend caution and then talk myself right out of it in the very same post?

 

Why, yes, it seems I did. Clearly, more coffee is needed this morning, for I am rambling hard a-starboard...

 

Also, I expect another Vivienne distraction to drop at some point, too, to continue the torment. There's been no video with her voice actor yet, so that's lurking, I'm sure...

I'm sure that there is some kind of devious scheme behind the companion reveals, all intended to drive us mad in the meantime with no information whatsoever, only to have the devs swoop in and save us from the brink of madness with a bucket load of new information on Solas. Or maybe it's something like: Oh look, the Solas fans are obviously the most loyal fans, so we'll save Solas for last, they'll be fine. To which my answer would be, NO, no we're not!    (this waiting is really starting to affect my sanity..)

You did see Allan's Vivienne joke in the twitter thread, I expect. Pure cruelty.   I'm sure that's not the end of it, either.

 

The lack of info has begun to affect my sleep. I've had two dreams in the past week about 1) trying to play with a CC demo in a store while a bunch of people were jostling me and making it difficult, and 2) chasing bizarre looking darkspawn-esque creatures around a town with a bow and arrows. I mean, these are better than the standard "Why am I walking around downtown in my underwear?!" sort of anxiety dream, but still. I don't think I've ever wanted to get my hands on a game so badly.

 

I'm interested in Cole's interview, and glad we don't need to worry about him taking one of the LI slots (even though I know there are people asking, because...BSN). That hat, though...what IS that? It's like a sail. On his head. If the cool musketeer hat is The Sex Hat, Cole's hat is totally the Anti-Sex Hat. I don't care what kind of stat bonuses that thing has, it's getting sold to the first roadside merchant I can find. Maybe Old Tegrin will show up again to spam us with road encounters. He can totally have Cole's hat.

 

I wonder how Solas would look in the Sex Hat? These are things I ponder over my coffee.

I did indeed. And I laughed quite heartily. That boy is a hot mess and a trickster/tease, and I love it!

Heh, I've had no such luck since that one random Solas dream I had. My dreams of late have been... well, entirely inappropriate and probably involve Magneto just a little too much for comfort, but I suppose that is my penance to pay for having watched "X-Men: Days of Future Past" recently.

Not that I'm complaining much. *cough cough*   

But at any rate, the wait is certainly affecting my enjoyment of other games at the moment, sadly enough. I can usually get engrossed in a game quickly and easily, even if it's a replay of an old favorite, but I have been bouncing from Titanfall to ME3MP to DA2 to Oblivion to Skyrim... and I just find myself bored after 30 minutes or so. Because what I WANT to be playing is DA:I.

The hat looks like either an incredibly large sun hat or almost like the old school tricorn hat.

That has to be the reason. That, or he is m/m and they're holding off revealing until Gaymer with Dorian? Then again, they revealed Sera... but perhaps that wasn't planned.

I'm a huge Dorian fan, but right now I'm most looking forward to the update on Solas. We know so little about him! It's so weird how little we know about him in comparison to every other companion. They released pictures of him so early, too. I would have guessed we'd get his information right after Vivienne.

I'm seriously starting to think that Solas might be some kind of walking spoiler character and that's why so little is revealed about him. If he's a Fade expert then it's very likely this knowledge will play an important plotty role, with how heavily the Fade is involved in the story. Maybe his entire involvement in the plot is rather spoilery? Or maybe it's a case of something major that is revealed fairly quickly within the game itself, and a huge aspect of his character that you can't ignore while describing him, but supposed to be a major surprise and not something you want to go into the game knowing.

 

Say, for example, I wasn't around when DA2 was not yet released and when it was in this stage so I don't know if this is accurate, but Anders and his merge with Justice- it's obviously a big part of his DA2 character and you can't ignore this while describing him, but it's also not something you'd reveal before the game's actual release and wouldn't want the players to know this before playing the game, you'd want them to find it out for themselves. Perhaps there is something like this with Solas, something of huge importance you can't not mention when discussing the character but don't want to let the audience know before playing the game itself.

I think Solas is also a kind of monk/shaman-esque sort of apostate, less of a renegade living on the run and more of an Isolationist type (if he were a Circle mage), living in the woods in seclusion because it's quiet and peaceful and nobody bothers him and he can go about doing his own thing. I also theorize that it's in order to become an expert on the Fade- this requires spending a lot of time in it, not just theoretical study, and he decided to start living in seclusion and silence in order to pursue this subject and become an expert on it. For one reason or another. I also think (Masked Empire spoilers)

that he is a member of Felassan's "clan" or if not has some kind of connection to him. I know the lack of tattoos on Solas is a major disparity, but eh that could have some Reason too.
