Alright, I'm going to say this makes up for no Solas info today in my book.

 

Looks a whole lot like cel shading, but I can't help but think it's actually a vector work.  It looks sooo much like Adobe Illustrator was the medium of choice there... I know you can get that same look from other programs, but it's just so crisp and clean, and that's generally how vector stuff is (if you don't use gradients).  Plus there's the advantage that you can size it up however big you like with no quality loss, because vector!  Which would mean someone can print their own personal awesome poster of Solas...

Well gosh dang it bioware, do you see what you've done to this thread, it's been moved to the second page because there's nothing to talk about, how could you do something like that to us   So then I guess I'll ask a question that's been on my mind for a while now, something we probably can't answer but maybe it's fun to speculate about. So, do you guys think that Solas has or had a family? I can easily see him being an only child or either someone who's from a really big family, that reminds me of the Dalish origin in DA:O however, I think that was the only one or one of the few where you didn't have siblings or other direct family, right? Maybe that's something that's a part of their culture, not having a really big family, or just coincidence maybe? (correct me if I'm wrong) So maybe that could play a part in it too if he does turn out be Dalish.

As for Solas being Dalish I think it is a great possibility especially considering that Sera seems like she is going to be our city elf. As for family I could see him having a brother or sister. He looks aged to the point that it would seem his parents are dead. It would be sad if it turned out he was banished from his clan like Merrill though some are suspecting that he is going to be dabbling in necromancy and such. I really hope this is bot the case

Last night I had a dream about that. I dreamed that Solas had a wife but she died.

His clothing suggests that he's someone who spends a lot of time outdoors perhaps living a nomadic life,which kind of fits a possible Dalish background...The lack of Vllaslin however suggests that it may not be the case,I think Solas is either a hermit dedicated in studying the fade or an apostate who is also part of the mage rebellion and just happens to be an expert of the fade.
Also,the Dalish mages are known to avoid the fade and spirits in general,which kind of suggests that he was possibly trained in a circle as it would be difficult to have advanced knowledge in that particular subject,if he was raised among the dalish where they follow this philosophy.

Although after the annulment of the Navarran accord, it is possible that he might have sought the Dalish after leaving the circle,for one reason or the other.

It's a shame the video game version of Solas looks NOTHING like this... I would actually consider romancing this /\ guy, but I'm totally repulsed by the creepy Nicolas Cage/Gollum creature that's featured in the pre-alpha gameplay video... :\

Given that the Inquisitor is suppose to be gathering all these companions who are leaders or influential in some way, I don't think Solas is a hermit. I actually like the idea of him being an escaped Circle mage who subsequently created a small community that welcomes other apostates. That's not to say he'd be an actual member of the rebellion (though I like that idea too).

 

I'm most interested in his personality though. His design makes him look so horribly unassuming I can't even blame some people for portraying him as some poor put upon geek. Even though I suspect he'll be anything but that.

I just find it kind of sad when fan art is exponentially more attractive than the actual video game character.... I've noticed the same thing in the Dorian thread - I'm not trying to troll Solas fans here.

 

I actually think he sounds like a really interesting character!

That sounds like a pretty good theory. Him being an apostate and creating small communities sound like he would be a strong representative to mage freedom or at the very least show that not all mages are power hungry blood mages.

It's probably a combination of both... I mean, I can't envision Cole being an A Type personality capable of leading anyone (or anything)...

I know it's been mentioned in a few of the video interviews. There should be at least one from E3 that says something to that effect. I'll see if I can find it later (I'm on mobile right now). However, if you take into account what we know about the current companions; there is a trend. Vivienne as Enchanter, Cass as a leader of Seekers, Varic and his guild, Iron Bull and his mercenaries, Sera and her thieves. Cole is the obvious exception here but I still wouldn't be surprised if Dorian comes with a collective group of his own (like-minded Tevinters perhaps).

I think everyone is an expert, but not necessarily a leader, after all, Cole is a certified, card carrying loner, per force.
