If there's only 2 LI's per gender, Varric isn't going to be one of them.

I'm still holding out for three of each gender, myself. Quantity and quality aren't mutually exclusive.

Someone pointed out (somewhere in this thread :pinched: ) that his whole appearance works very well with him being an apostate, flying under the radar, trying to avoid notice and all that.  I wonder what the artists consider his "hook."

I personally see someone trying to not attract any attention, which automatically makes me want to rip that all away and find out what he's hiding.  That... came out wrong

Hmm, I think that being completely bald actually makes you stand out MORE but maybe the character designers had a different idea about it, if they put so much thought into their design. Then again, we know nearly nothing about his personality yet so who knows! Scotch bonnet candy personality doesn't quite sound like the "fly under the radar" type to me, though.

True. I'm not holding out too much hope about him being an LI. It reminds me of when many of us were hoping Joker would be an LI in Mass Effect 3. There was plenty of clamoring for it and rumors that it had been thought about but then they went in a completely other direction. In fact, there are quite a few similarities between Joker's and Varric's purpose in relation to the PCs of their games and that doesn't give me much hope!

But more on topic, I'm thinking Solas will be an LI. The elves are usually in those roles.

Something about the way Gaider addressed some of the "Ew, I don't want to romance a bald elf" comments (too lazy to dig for quote, but it was something along the lines of "Well, if he is one and the baldness bugs you that much, oh well, pick somebody else") made me think that Solas was probably a LI, but that was just my impression.  Solas is also an elf of what looks to be about the right age for, er, romanceability, so...probably? I feel like optional elf sexytime is sort of a feature of the DA universe at this point.

All I know is, it takes a supremely confident man to wear his underpants as armor, so I'm looking forward to meeting him.

And thanks to this thread, every time I see him I'm going to think of Jareth singing "Magic Pants" instead of "Magic Dance."

Okay, if many so fixated on his baldness, what's the reason of it, in your opinion?

  • Genes
  • Result of unfortunate magical experiment
  • Post-effect of Templar's attention (cackles)

Or post your version.

One day he set his hair on fire and had to shave what was left off. He decided he liked that look.

Or maybe he's always been bald. Bald....everywhere. Everywhere.

Well, that's almost canon for elves. Or maybe it is, i've never bothered to check.

This is true.  Just because fans are asking for it, doesn't mean that a character will be made a LI.  I think that the ME team set a terrible precedent with Tali and Garrus in ME2 and now people think that the simple fact that people want a character to be a LI is enough for the writers to comply.  I don't see Varric as a LI and I'm hoping they go the route of Joker by having his character development be around his romance of a lady dwarf (perhaps Bianca if she really isn't dead, as was hinted at......).  That would be more satisfying to me.

Re:  Solas, I never realized that every single elf in the main games was a LI.  I'm not saying that this is strong enough evidence to suggest that Solas is going to be as well, but it is interesting to note.  Especially with all of the speculation that Solas and Sera might be LIs.  Interesting.

Yeah, I got that impression too.  I could sympathize as well.  If I wrote a character (not saying that Gaider wrote him, necessarily) and was really happy with the story (including the romance storyline), I would be annoyed as hell if everyone was making these sweeping statements about how they would never romance him and what a waste it would be if he was a romance before they even knew anything about his personality.  That was the kind of irritation that I was picking up from Gaider's comments.

While physically Solas isn't my cup of tea (a bit too skinny and hairless for my liking, which should be obvious if anyone has picked up on my love for the Grey Warden.....), I'm not counting him out yet.  We know nothing of his personality at this point.  It could turn out that he has the best personality and that will make me want to romance him.  Who knows.  He might not even be a LI.  Again, who knows at this point.

What's funny is that I never once found any of the elves altogether physically attractive, I somehow end up romancing elves every single time. Zevran (partially because he was the only s/s male romance) and Fenris. In my opinion, I loved their romance arcs, even though they weren't physically appealing to me. Solas might very well keep my streak going.

@ Elu

I agree with you on the Elf romance bit.

Fenris and Zevran both weren't exactly...what I'd describe as attractive either though both would fit the criteria for being attractive at least to me personally in reality, Lithe, Lanky and slim built with pronounced facial and mid torso features...But anyway for me Fenris was all about the VA and his personality in the romance, I got over how he looked a bit out of sorts, even though Commentary via the Developers assayed me of his cartoonish looks.

@__@ but dat Voice kept me coming back whenever I was doing a Male Warrior Playthrough...

He's a returning companion though.

To each their own.  He was cute though.  In terms of overall attraction, I was more of an Aragorn gal myself. :)

oh absolutely, as far as attractiveness goes you can't beat Aragorn!! I was just comparing elves though ;)

Yeah, my canon playthrough has the exact same thing, even though I don't prefer skinny elves too.  With Zevran it's as you said; no other options, so I had to romance him if I wanted to access romance content.  With Fenris, it's not that I found him more physically attractive than Anders (because I didn't), it's just that Anders is so off-putting that I felt that the brooding energy from Fenris was preferable.  My canon Hawke is a mage, so it was interesting to friendmace Fenris as a mage and watch him slowly start to soften up his views.

I'm kind of ready for something different this time, though.

Definitly... If they smack a similar voice on Solas, I might forget his baldness.

I always romance the elves. I find the humans in DA not for my liking. For instance Alistair and Anders for me was boring. Both in personality and the way they look. Similar with Kaiden in ME. He was just dull and looked like a typical "American hero".

I like them to be different, but not too different. I got over Thanes looks because he was simply...amazing. Best LI ever. So if Solas is beyond awesome personality, baldness is okay. Its just that I don´t find baldness phusically attracrive. But we will see.

It is not that simple.

Baldness is never ok, how can you trust a bald person at your back? How do you know he doesn't have it all worked out to hand you over to Magisters?
