It still hurts to hear it from others though. Stuff like "Eww, bald? There's no way I would romance someone bald!"
That's what makes the new forum awesome though. Here's what to do:
1. Highlight and copy person's username.
2. Go to ignore list.
3. Hit "paste."
Voila! 
For the most part I'm not into bald at all, but then again, most real world relationships are built on more than the shininess of a partner's head 
I like that they made them distinctive but it was just a little too cartoonish for my tastes (I didn't hate it, clearly, because Fenris was Hawke's LI on my "canon" playthrough). They still look distinct from humans in DAI based on the busts but not quite as intensely, I guess?
I would guess it has something to do with how the game was pushed, so they couldn't put too much effort into details of random elves. Merril and Fenris looked fine to me with their features, just different from humans. The only one that really bugged me, was Orana, but it has more to do with her starvation.
Also, new engine. Also, protagonist and follower. We haven't seen random elves yet, with fewer polygons.
I may be the only one, but I kind of hope Solas doesn't have some depressingly sad backstory. I don't think it would even suit him, from what little we know--by which I mean his concept art and the fact that his personality is summed up as "candied peppers." He looks like he's got a strong sense of humor, and as others have said, might be a bit of a trickster or prankster. But that smug grin could also mean he's a bit too proud for his own good, and that's bad in a mage.
I especially hope he doesn't have a tragic past if he ends up being a romance option. I know a lot of us already assume he is, but I guess even if he seems to be an obvious choice, we shouldn't assume. He might be off the table just as much as Aveline was.
What if Cullen was a companion but at some point between DA2 and DAI he....

I'd prefer Cullen with slicked back hair opposed to buzzed or Maruchan Top-Ramen style, I mean after 10 years time certainly one needs to update his look.

Not just them, but all the characters in Bioware games who have dead wives/girlfriends and want to tell the Female Protagonist all about them... Not that I don't understand loss, or expect a character who used to be in such a serious relationship to forget all about it. But how about someone who hasn't lost his wife/girlfriend/child? The female love interests are never ex-wives or ex-girlfriends of someone who otherwise overshadows the protagonist who is romancing them...

As i tend to stick with D.Gaider's characters, i have never had a problem like this. Since BGII i suppose.

Mr. Gaider hasn't worked on NWN2 as far as i know 
And for Valen i hasn't felt it central to his character, more like a side brush.

NWN expansion is not NWN2, it was hordes of the underdark.

And Kaidan. And Thane. And to some degree Jacob, who had been in a relationship with Miranda and "he wasn't good enough for her," but he is good enough for Shepard...? And was still hung up on Miranda.
So yes, it's still an issue. If it has been done with female characters, I apologize. But it's happened far too often in male characters, and really, enough is enough.

Kaidan just had a girl he crushed on in school, and then the girl died (right?). Just interesting backstory for him, more than anything.
On that same note, Isabela did have a husband, buuuuut I guess having your husband assassinated doesn't really count in the same way...
