Haha all of this snubbing of nice characters! I appreciate niceness myself, which is why I liked Alistair, but keep in mind that "nice" doesn't mean "flawless" or "lacks depth". Solas isn't just candy, he's candy made from very hot peppers. Thus, I'm very sure we can expect a kind of fire from his character. Maybe he seems put together and nice until he has a reason to want to put the hurt on you. Maybe he's very strong in his convictions and isn't afraid to get into it with a character like Vivienne over them. That smarmy look he has in the concept art might be another clue, or so we hope!

I like nice characters. I mean, I guess I like it when they have opinions of their own, but I don't really "like" characters that disagree with me all the time. I like them in the sense that I like what they add to the story, a sense of tension and a variance of information, but I don't personally like them. I wouldn't be friends with or in a romantic relationship with a person in real life that constantly disagreed with me about everything and did it in a rude way, so I'm not really going to see imaginary characters that way, either. 

 

Even when I friend them, I always headcanon it that I'm just telling them what they want to hear because the objectives will be easier with their compliance.

The way I see it, Elven men and women both are usually portrayed as having long hair, so going against that stereotype is something I like. All of my Elves had short hair - I didn't like my ears being covered up by it.

Not at all. I'm not a big fan of long haired men myself. I like that he's bald he looks very good bald.

 

 

 

And tbh I like nice in a character but of course I don't want them to be too nice if you catch my drift. And to know that Solas is based off of Candied peppers has really got my attention. If he is turned on by my inquisitor stabbing maps I'd have her stab them on a daily basis for him.

 

Also I'm going to try to stay away from the forums today...I have this bad feeling since it's April fools day BioWare has something in store for us.

Their loss.  I don't see the point of people getting so worked up over not liking a character they don't know.  I swear, some people go out of their way to fabricate reasons to be upset with Bioware.  Also, I've seen people on Twitter complaining about people fangirling over him even though we don't know much about him.  I'm excited for the possibilities, the mystery; it's fun to speculate and let my imagination run wild (the fact that he's a fade expert, pretty and has amazing thighs just drives the mystery! ).  Where's the fun in nitpicking and ripping apart a character?

 

Edit: ^^ I'm not talking about people who say they're not interested in him as an LI.  Everyone has their own preferences    It's about people who dismiss him (or another companion) as a character because of it!

Some would hate him because he's not of their sexual tastes, but takes a precious romance slot instead of someone of their choosing. Tell me you haven't seen this before every Bioware's game is released.

I think this is exactly where many of the complaints are coming from. If it was confirmed that Solas isn't an LI, we'd probably see a lot less negativity. You can be bald and unfashionable AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT TAKING UP LI SPACE.

 

It's their prerogative to be negative, I suppose, I just don't get why you would want to be when we know nothing yet! Also it's strange that people complain about some fans "fangirling" over him. Oh, I'm not surprised!  We all have the right to want the game to be exactly what we want, but the game will be whatever the devs decide it should be (and I'm glad, because I'd be AWFUL at making video games).  I'd personally rather not get too set in preconceived ideas about what the game should or shouldn't be to avoid disappointment/internet raaaaage.

I'm replaying DA:O, and honestly I do not want Alistair 2.0.  I used to completely adore Alistair.  Now I find his overly goofy attitude and his whining offputting.  Not that he doesn't have his charming moments, and maybe it's just that I played my characters who romanced him differently, dialogue-wise, than I'm doing now.  I just get a "sex sex sex" vibe from him, which I didn't even get from Garrus in ME2 after Shepard threw herself at him.  Still, it's making me want to play a Zevran romance to see if I like it better now that about five years have passed.

 

There's no guarantee Solas is a love interest, though he seems one of the most likely candidates we've seen thus far.  I hope the male LIs are Solas and Dramatic Hands (Dorian?) though it would be unusual to have two mages for love interests (not that there is a guarantee that Dramatic Hands is a mage).  They both seem pretty interesting, just from a design standpoint, and I'd like to know more about them.

 

I'm really hoping for fresh new characters this time around.  I'm okay with Varric returning; I liked Varric well enough in DA2.  Part of me thinks that anyone at all returning other than as a cameo is too much, though.

 

As for Solas's personality, well... if he is described as candied hot peppers, I tend to think of the pepper's heat before I would think of the candied aspect.  It burns--so maybe he likes to insult people?--but it's sweet--so he cares?  ... I really hope he's the next character reveal, but I suspect that will be Iron Bull or the Warden instead, just to spite us.

That's sort of what I was thinking, as well. It's hard to judge how much I'd enjoy one companion over another at this point, but from the very little (or, well, nothing) we know about Solas, I'd prefer him to Cullen.

 

That could change, I suppose. But a spicy pepper-candy mage!elf sounds more interesting to me right now than a former templar I didn't exactly love the first two times around.

I suspect he will be guarded and hot-tempered like you would expect a typical apostate to be, but sweet and endearing once you convince him to let you in.

Maker, we need more info on this guy! Hopefully he will be the April follower and the end of April arrives with haste.

I'm thinking he'll be the next character shown just because we've seen screenshots of him in game recently, which is more than we can say for Sera and Iron Bull. It feels like they set him up to be the next reveal.

It does seem like he will be next since he has been shown more than Sera and Iron Bull like you said.

 

 

I'm curious I wasn't around before DA 2 came out...how many months was it before it came out did they tell you all who was Li? I'm just curious.

If I remember correctly, they released information about love interests on Valentine's Day, and the game came out in early March. So . . . less than a month before release.

 

Edited to add: though I think a couple of characters were "known" to be romancable before it was officially released (like Isabela, I think).
