Wasn't Fenris' master's name Danarius?

Yes, she served Ahriman, but not as apprentice. Just a servant, maybe tailor as she was after leaving him. Only Danarius offered her to become apprentice and only for specific service.

Well, I guess the core concept of her story arc is basically the same either way.

I just find it odd that BioWare would waste a name as powerful as Ahriman, on some faceless far away magister.

Liberati (former slave) can become apprentice and join a circle .

But they are not seen as citizen .

From what Varania says life as a Liberati sucked , I mean she goes all , "I hated Freedom , thanks Fenris."

Being an apprentice /joining a circle =/= being a magister.

If you're not a citizen , you just can't take part in any political stuff anyway.

Then why would she talk about becoming a magister? She had to know Imperial law about castes. Is there even elves, who are full citizens of the Imperium? This is confusing.

There's a contradiction between the lore that says ex-slaves can't have political power, and the lore that says any mage in a Circle can theoretically become a magister if appointed by their Circle. Heck, anyone can become a magister if the Archon says so.

I'd tend to err on the side of magical power being more important than class origins, in a society like Tevinter - it is, after all, the difference between Laetan and Soporati citizens.

If Vanaria was a fully-fledged mage under a magister, that at the very least points to some legitimacy for elven mages in Tevinter - and I don't think it's out of the question that one could become a magister.

(also, I'm looking at Dramatic Hands Moustache Guy again and now I think *he* might be Dorian. The concept art for Tevinter mages in World of Thedas includes a sword, which DHMG has, and the clothing style looks vaguely similar)

Well she trusted Danarius, would you?

He could have lied to her , "there used to be elves magister I assure you , dear."

Fenris didn't know how to read ,etc...

To be honest I think the question of elves being able to rise the rank within the Tevinter society is still up in the air.

We need some Bioware writer to pop in , and settle this . ;)

Edit : on a side note , I'd say even an elf with great magical abilities would be pressured to reproduce with humans famillies.

I don't think Tevinter cares all that much about half breed , since they probably have a lot of them .

People like Feynriel seems to be welcomed with open arms. And Danarius has a bit of pointy ears going on.

David Gaider confirmed here that Bald Elf Mage's appearance in the game *is* that picture that someone posted earlier.

Here's a link to David's post.

Here's the picture with a front-on view of the character - his clothing here is actually quite different to the fur coat thing.

Somebody said he was dressed like a Jedi , and now I'm seeing Yoda. :pinched:

I'm a bit on the fence , because he doesn't look fun.

Cassandra doesn't look fun and Vivienne from her description ...well she also take herself seriously.

I'm hoping the Iron Bull is going to be a companion now...the Barbarian dude.I wasn't too thrilled at first but I'm warming up to the idea.

And hopefuly Sera is crazy. And there's Varric.

I'm a bit impatient to have a more news , though short descriptions usualy doesn't make justice to the characters.

I think Bald elf guy was the bread from the food twitter thing now.

@Reznores... Shortbread is (usually) used as a cookie base. But I believe the most important part of the word was "short."

Anyway, I will refrain from jumping to any wild conclusions regarding Bald Elf Mage, at least until we have even a tiny shred of info regarding his personality.

Well, the more I learn about this elf mage the more I doubt that he is Dorian the magister from the survey...

I don't think baldness fits his face and that's my only issue with some bald guys. However in the end all I care if I like him personality wise than if he has hair.

A very short clip of this elf walking from behind with his staff made him suddenly so alive and interesting. I can’t wait to know more about him.

I think MaybeDorian is going to find a permanent spot on my femDalish mage Inquisitor's side as her bff, along with Vivienne as her other bff and, hopefully, Cullen as her bf. She'll enjoy the challenge of keeping the peace between three mages and a templar even if it kills her. She's a special snowflake that way.

Also, um, I hate to be the burster of many bubbles, but I don't think Smugs ever had a ponytail. After studying the War Room picture a bit more, it looks like he's standing in front of an object that resembles what's used to raise and lower bridges. Doesn't mean it IS one, just looks like one. I dunno, just my observation. Don't take it as fact or anything.

Anyway, yeah. I approve of the elf's look, regardless.

Now, you know what we should really be doing instead of agreeing or disagreeing about whether we find his lack of hair attractive? VA speculation! I'm rather partial to Robin Atkin Downes. That man's voice could charm a miser out of his last coin. *dreamy sigh* Make it so, BW! Pretty please? :D

I'm actually really, really digging the bald look. I have a thing for bald I guess. Shaved my own head a while back, and us baldies have gotta stick together! We could totally make awesome bald babies together.

And maybe there's an in-game reason for the bald? Who knows yet?

I'm very interested in an elf companion who is not/has not been repressed in some way by outside forces (i.e. humans).  A Tevinter Magister elf who is used to getting their way regardless of race would be awesome, and I can't shake this impression for him based on his smarmy expressions in most of the concept art.

I was also someone who read the description for Dorian and automatically attached it to the bald elf without much thought.  Going by Gaider's response, I am probably dead wrong, lol.  But here are the reasons I think it would be great:

1.  The fact that an elf of all people is a Tevinter magister would be intriguing to me.  I would love to slowly learn his backstory and why he is what he is.

2.  The story of DAI lends itself to us having an "evil" character on our team.  By evil, I don't mean mustache twirling evil, just someone who has beliefs and ideals that are foreign to us.  An elf that has risen to magister who now lords over other elves fits this bill, I think.  The ideals that he stands for might be disgusting, but he may also be very intelligent and helpful in your quest.  Some others mentioned the "voice of reason", similar to Wynne.  Having the voice of reason for DAI be a Tevinter magister would be...interesting.

I guess I tend to like characters that kind of defy expectations based on their race.  Usually it's the evil heritage that they rise above to become a "good" character.  In this case, Dorian would be the opposite:  An elf who rose above slavery somehow, but used his freedom to become a power hungry magister.

Regarding the looks of the elf, I am cool with either the bald or the samurai style top knot thing he has going on in that other pic.

As far as LI related stuff, I usually avoid romancing anyone, so I am kind of strange in that regard.  I would get a kick out of it if they did something similar to Morinth in ME2, though.  He can keep warning you that he is dangerous or whatever, but if you keep prodding him for a relationship he will end up sacraficing your character in some unholy ritual, lol.

Much better than another romance, in my opinion!

Anyway, all of my above ramblings are not based on reality in the slightest.  It's all just me taking an idea that I liked and running with it.  Even if the Tevinter magister is not an elf, I still hope for an intriguing character.  An evil, but not EVIL, character that joins your team for mutual interests.

Take care.

I'm constantly disheartened by how immature and judgmental these forums can be. You immediately write a character off, who could very well have an interesting and compelling personality, because they don't fit your ideal picture of what is attractive, as if it were the be-all,end-all?

Personally, I'm intrigued. I'm curious as to just who he is, as we've previously been dissuaded from believing he is Dorian.

How about, instead of complaining that people have a different opinion, everyone just gets back on topic? Please?  =]

Anyway.... I, myself, am pretty interested in just who this dude is. I doubt he's the former Tevinter magister some are speculating he is, but I could be wrong. Maybe it's because he gives off a Zathrian vibe, even though he only shares like, two traits with the dude. Also wondering about his personality, whether or not he'll mesh with my Quizzy or be a complete opposite.

Wonder if he's bald by choice (hairstyle) or if he's actually bald/ing?  Looks a little like Shartan.  His face speaks one thing to me, but his subdued wardrobe choice says another...I go back & forth with speculations.

There was some speculation on the other thread about him being a Javik type character from the past that you "reawaken" somehow, due to his clothing. To add to that crazy speculation, I say what if it WAS Shartan? Ooooooo.

If he makes humorous quips or whatnot in a great voice, then I will like his character.  It's that simple with me.  I mean c'mon, he likes like he might have that gravely..growling..whatever word I'm looking for going on.

I'm trying not to entertain these theories too much because they're probably a little too fanciful to be true.  But the resemblance to Shartan *is* kinda spooky, especially under the circumstances.

Personally I don't think the resemblance has any relevance, but it certainly was the first thing that sprung to my mind when I saw the character.  And Shartan --> Andraste --> The Maker --> The Black City, and I've been dying for a DA game that lets us go there...so I'll jump on any tentative connection I can, sure.   ^_^

We're supposedly going to be investigating Chantry secrets, which might involve all that business.  And establishing an elven homeland was Shartan's dream, and that might just happen again.  He died before the Dales was originally established, but considering Andraste is involved, who knows.  People apparently pop back to life around her ashes.  Would be a "whoa" thing if it happened.  Same with the ancient Arlathan elf theory.

But yeah, it isn't something that seems likely.  I think he's going to end up being an apostate and/or involved with the elven rebellion.  Which are things relevant to the political situation in the game, and he would be insightful that way.  Still wistful about the Tevinter magister possibility, but if he ever was that character, I get the feeling that's gone now.
