Hmmm.  You know, a lot of us have assumed he's going to be a love interest, but what are Solas's chances of actually being a romance option?

 

If the party is rounded out by Cullen and Dramatic Hands, those two could be romances instead.  Bioware hasn't said anything about making more romances this time around.  Solas's chances at romance would rise dramatically if Cole were one of the final companions.  And even then, we might get Iron Bull or Bearded Warden instead of Solas.

Who knows at this point?  They've remained really quiet on the LI front, but seem to find our speculation amusing at least.

 

I'm being cautious and not letting my hopes get up too high.   I'm not assuming he's a LI, I'm having a "What if?" scenario.

Usually elves are choices. That doesn't ensure him as LI, of course, but I would say that he's solidly in the running. That, and he seems to have been aged down which could be seen as a clue too.

 

Honestly, I don't super duper care whether he's a LI to the point where I'll be extraordinarily upset if he isn't. I just think he looks like an interesting character!

I really like that look with the robes! And I agree with the Dalish thing--it would be real interesting to see what someone, who was raised Dalish but taken before he could earn his vallaslin, would think, with his insider's perspective on the Circle.

 

As for his shots as a LI...I dunno. Just based on the confirmed male companions, I'd say he's got a shot (well, of course, there's only two other competitors). Throw the Bearded Warden or Cullen in and his odds decrease, probably by a lot b/c he looks pretty old, which would be a little odd. But it's not like Bioware hasn't gone with unconventional romance options before (Garrus and Tali, Aribeth's....ghost-thing, etc.). 

 

*shrugs* Either way, everything's just speculation, and I'll be happy whether he is or isn't a LI, so it's a moot point for now.

Prior to the DA series, I had only done two BioWares romance, one of which was Valen.  The other (and from a team pretty distant from the main BW team) was Kira from SWTOR.   Genn was from MotB, which (I believe) was started by BioWare than passed to Obsidian.

 

It wasn't the romances that kept me coming back to BioWare games, it was their characters and the stories that got me every time.  If I can't romance Solas, it isn't going to break my heart either.  He does seem very interesting, especially if he's our possible Fade expert.

 

@Ap0 I almost forgot about Aribeth in HotU, but that certainly counts as unconventional.

What I'm trying to say is I'm not too convinced he's in the running for LI. If Cullen IS a companion, he'll be a LI without a doubt but the more we hear, the more I doubt he'll be in the party. I could be wrong, though!

 

Ahhh, I can't wait to look back on these conversations months from now after we've played the game so I can laugh at how wrong we probably all are about everything

I've done that before.  It's actually a lot of fun to see how close or how far off the mark you once were.  It's even more fun when you can go "Oh crap, I was actually right about that!"

Heh, I remember on the Fenris forums before DAII came out we were all convinced that Bioware had given him Dead Wife Syndrome, but in this case it would be Forgotten Wife Syndrome. Was a pleasant surprise to be wrong, and it still gives me a chuckle.

 

And I agree, Bearded Warden does look a little old. I'm just saying that if Bioware were to choose to give us an unconventional older-guy romance, I'd give the edge to him because he's human. To balance out the weird-ness factor by making him a familiar race. This made a lot more sense in my head.

 

You know, I have to wonder what the devs think of all this. Probably laughing their heads off.

I'd say a human and elf is a more likely combination than two humans,so I expect they will go the same route again and have romanceable characters that belong to a different race and class,though you never know...

Well I don't think Cullen has much chance of being a companion at this point, so that is why I think Solas' chances are really high. Because I think it likely that mustache guy will be revealed as a companion, and later, a LI. And then Cole will also probably be confirmed (OR possibly an unheard of female character).

 

So I think our LIs will be Solas and mustache guy. I mean, I think those are the most likely choices. And maybe that is what others are thinking, too.

For some reason I was just recently looking back at the first page of the MEG/Fenris thread and seeing all of the assumptions that he was a mage. I started cracking up, oh my gosh. I can only imagine how funny the devs found that, all things considered.

Even though I would prefer a more aesthetically pleasing LI, I still wouldn't mind a romance with Solas. I wasn't even remotely attracted to Fenris, but his romance is my Number 2 on my list of BioWare LIs behind Kaidan. I thought Fen's romance was written spectacularly, and if Solas' is written just as well, I would be glad to romance him.

Ha, I admit that I tend to be a tad-bit overblown about romances, mostly because it gives me more chances to roleplay my characters, which is probably my most favorite thing in the world. That said, I can appreciate an unromanceable companion for their depth and character development--Oghren, Sten, Loghain, Wrex, Legion, Black Whirlwind, Death's Hand, Canderous, Kreia, everyone from the Baldur's Gate series...
