If he was Dalish, he'd have the tattoos and he's supposedly a fade expert so he is probably trained and had access to knowledge, which would point to time spent in the Circle. But we really don't know for sure!

I agree, maybe he was taken by a Dalish clan when young, but I doubt that he grew up among them. The Dalish seem rather wary of spirits and the fade in general...

Fair point. I hadn't really got a good look at him, other than the Men in Tights pic. Didn't realize he didn't have tattoos.

Not if he was taken as a child. Dalish only get their blood writing once they hit adulthood, as a sort of rite of passage. Hence why that "born-Dalish-kidnapped-as-a-child" theory is plausible.

Hmm. I'd really like to know now. I want a Dalish mage on the team.. but don't necessarily want to make one. I will if it comes down to that, but my favorite Warden is already Dalish. Kind of want to mix things up a bit and make a human warrior for this game.

The whole 100 pages of this thread are based on three things. He's bald. He may be (if the article was correct) a fade expert. And from concept art, he looks like he has a bit of a sly smile. Well maybe four things, because a lot of people seem to think he's cute and there are a few pages dedicated to that. We really know nothing, but we seem to be having a good time talking about nothing. Hopefully you'll have your answer at the end of the month. :)

On a sidenote, I hope we get more answers on that. I get the feeling that the original Tevinter magisters used Eluvian to invade the Golden City. And that Golden City was Arlathan. Or connected to it somehow.. perhaps a section for their slumbering Elders. And that the dwindling civilization of Elves, the Fade, and Darkspawn are all part of the same event.

I mean that you don't find him among some Dalish clan or anything like that. We were talking before about how he might have been taken from the Dalish as a kid or something along those lines.

Also, YAAAAAY PAGE 100! Give yourselves a pat on the back, BEES!  ;)

What if he's just Feynriel with a shaved head? :D

"Solas" is like an alias. Sort of like Batman.

Clearly we're all just entranced by his luscious locks of hair and the wealth of information we have about him!

Oh I like this theory!I too have a theory that Elvehnan was somehow connected with the fade(maybe through a tear in the veil or something similar idk).Merrill mentions that  all elves used to have magic in the times of Arlathan.

I think it's an assumption based on David Gaider showing an interest in what people think of Solas on a few occasions. For example, wondering why people thought he was named Dorian, some comments in the Twitter thread about who wrote him, his comments in the thread complaining about Solas being bald, etc. Which is a fair assumption, I guess. But the assumption might hold more weight if Gaider wasn't the lead writer, who (I am assuming - correct me if I'm wrong) oversees a lot of the writing of characters.

The thing about the "protective" theory is that, yeah, he's the lead writer, but even if he weren't, it's possible he just LIKES the character. I remember not long ago seeing Allan Schumacher saying this in the Vivienne thread, "I also have to remember that I know more about the characters than others, and while I didn't write/create any of them specifically, I still already have the ones that I consider favourites based on things that no one else knows about so the comparison is unfair." This could be basically the same thing with David Gaider and Solas.

But I'm not even saying I specifically don't think Gaider wrote Solas. He may have. It just seems like not much evidence as to whether or not he did.

Oh there is absolutely zero evidence. Just more pure speculation haha!

Looking at Solas, it seems like they found the sweet spot in appearance with DAO elves and DA2's best looking elf: Fenris. I hope it's a sign of general appearances.

He's got a nice looking head, I must say.

They promised that it wouldn't be Varric or Cassandra! It WILL be someone new, that's confirmed!

They've said already it won't be Varric or Cassandra but someone new :)

Woot! Also 100 pages yay!

I hope they tell us for sure who his writer is, if he's the next Follower Friday entry. I don't know if they will, but I hope they go ahead and say who's writing characters after they're introduced.

So far from the elfquisitor models and Solas I'd say that so far,I'm pretty satisfied with the elves's look  in Inquisition. They look unique and maintain a distinct look yet they're far more aesthetically pleasing than the DA2 models.

Yeah, I wish my Female Dalish looked as cool as Elfquisitor. I shudder to think how she would have translated to DA2 though.

Whee 100 pages :)

Also, in case no one responded about Feynriel, I think he'd be considered human and not elf?  Also, his ears didn't look like normal elf ears if I remember correctly.
