So basically you don't want fans to take your word as law but you also don't want us to stop speculating so you can keep giggling at how wrong we are about everything. Gotcha.
Dance, puppets! Dance!

Haha on some level. In general I consider discussion like this positive and fun, though.
Oh it's certainly fun to put together an opinion of a character from a few scraps of information and watch others do the same! The BSN has a legendary talent for stuff like this and I think it's awesome to see how people weave together possibilities and what we already know.
I mean look at us; over 100 pages of discussion about some screenshots and a snippet of info. How cool is that? Even if all of it is terribly wrong ![]()
For some reason I'm picturing him as a guy who more identifies with "mage" than "elf" but everything is really up in the air when it comes to that. We already had the "I don't care that I'm an elf" dynamic with Fenris.
Orsino seemed to not care that he was an elf also, he was a mage first and foremost. I would think, that whether he ran from the Circle or had been raised out of it, a depiction of himself as an apostate would prevail over depiction himself as an elf (unless he was raised by the Dalish, hence "smug sense of superiority"). Just the feeling that he wouldn't care for "plight of our people" much, as opposed to hide and run from the Chantry.

Well I guess in the eyes of the Chantry and much of Thedas, they are mages before they're elves. Being a mage probably has a bigger effect on Solas's life than being an elf does, particularly if he's a Circle runaway like many suspect.
He'll likely counter Vivienne's anti-mage rebellion bs.
I cannot believe that a bald man may likely be my greatest ally going forth.
And why not???

And why not???

Oh, the first fallen ''ally'' on my quest to my true destiny.
Shem really doesn't make sense anymore, I mean back when Elves lived for a gazillion years (that's what they claim anyway) it was acceptable, but now the Humans and Dalish have more or less the same life span and the city elves.. forget about it.
We have contradicting information about the longevity of the Dalish from Gaider and Kirby, with no clarification being provided by either one.
As for the Dalish, their entire ethos is about maintaining the culture, religion, and heritage of the Elvhen. Their use of the term 'shemlen' isn't surprising, since they still use elven terms, even though they use it in a different context than the Arlathan elves did.
My comment wasn't actually directed towards you, it was directed towards as Fenris said "the smug sense of superiority" of the Dalish.
I recall Fenris saying that to Merrill when he took every single thing she said in the worst way possible, but I understand what you mean. You can see pretty much the same in how some Andrastian humans view elves and heathens, or how some dwarves perceive the casteless.
What is really Ironic however, is the city elves using the word shem, while they have a lifespan of a dog.
Gaider actually mentioned that at the old Dragon Central board:
The Dalish know some of the language. Their mastery of it is far from complete, but most Keepers will encourage their clans to use it as much as they can, but even they will mix it with the King's Tongue when they must. Many Dalish, in fact, will only use the most common phrases because that's all they know. City elves, meanwhile, use some of the words like "shemlen" or "vhenadahl" because that's become part of their lexicon -- but ask the average elf what those words actually mean and they probably wouldn't be able to tell you. "Shemlen" is "human" to them, but not "quick children".
Not reading all 112 pages but I just wanted to ask, did anyone notice the city named Solas in between Nevarra and the Tevinter Imperium?
Right at the top of the Silent Plains. Perhaps he comes from there? Or is named for the city? Or has Nevarran or Imperial connections?
I had noticed that city too!

We did notice that! I'm thinking that maybe he pulled an Anders. No way can that be a coincidence.
After the "Fade Nerd" discussion I had the urge to draw some more. More Solas! (PS that's a book)
Ahhh if he's a bookworm Fade nerd I'm going to be so happy! This is gorgeous!
Now I'm picturing the Inquisitor going back to her Keep after whatever new problem she had to solve and finding Solas like this.

The leaked survey seems to suggest Sera will be not so bothered by her elvishness, so I hope Solas is a contrast.
(It does say she revels in the physicality of being an elf, though. I guess no one told her they have the worse dexterity of anyone. Well, they did in Origins anyway)
