Caught up, spent almost all my likes on the way, and I wanna contribute (super late)!

I personally never really had much of an issue with any kind of LGBT individual when I was growing up (granted, in the city I lived in, tolerance could very well go either way), even though this was back in Brazil, which is a pretty significantly religious country; as is with just about the whole of South America. It wasn't until I came to the U.S. and grew up a bit that I realized this blind intolerance is actually a thing. In recent years, I've come to support and defend LGBT people (hurray, arguments with the family!), which I'm fairly certain has caused my mother to question if I'm bi/lesbian .Getting into video games, I usually always played as a male, and it was no different when I picked up DA:O - did it after a guild mate recommended it, had no idea about the romance stuff - and suddenly, Zevran just shows up and starts hitting on my male dwarf, which piqued my curiosity, making me want to see how far I could take this and I just rolled with it. And, I don't know, I feel like that experience reinforced my being okay with it all (and loving it!).

 

As a side note, Mass Effect and Dragon Age actually managed to coax me into playing a female character, so points to you guys!

 

But yeah, I love yo faces. All of you.

All I'll say is that while I play a huge variety of characters in terms of personality, gender, appearance, race, romance, etc, one thing most of my characters end up being is bisexual. That's because it's one trait of mine I can only headcanon in pretty much every other game but not in Dragon Age. And that is amazing. So thank you Dragon Age team!

Glad you shared, same with everyone else. Solas Thread is Best Thread. It's a warm, safe place for sharing! 

 

Also, you are not alone in having your family seriously wonder if you were a lesbian. Considering I was uninterested in actually dating boys (or anybody, really) until I was in college (I video gamed, rollerbladed, bike-rode, trounced around through the woods exploring with boys all the time growing up, very good friends, but did not want to date them), have been very much a tomboy all my life, and been knee-deep in football and video games since forever, I found out a few years ago (right after I started dating in college) that several of my extended family members had been "concerned" I was a lesbian. 

 

That, uh... that took a while to get over and forgive them. Not because I felt slandered, but because I was angry that they felt such an idea might be A Bad Thing.

I've been lurking on this thread for a while now, but I finally decided to make an account so I could add to this bit of conversation!

 

When I first played Mass Effect, I wasn't really sure on my orientation, but I leaned more towards being straight than anything else. I'd never really been attracted to a lady before, but MAN did Tali prove me wrong. She was so gosh darn cute I couldn't help but have a huge crush on her. I'll admit, I have crushes on LOTS of Mass Effect and Dragon Age characters, male and female, but the ladies have really won me over. Especially Isabela, she's my favorite LI out of all of them. And now that I've figured out that I'm asexual, I'm pumped as hell to see an ace character (especially an ace LI, I'd probably cry if there was one) in future games! Bioware's really helped me come to terms with my identity, and though I've just gotten into ME and DA fairly recently, I plan on being a long time fan.

I appreciate the time you took to read these wonderful people's posts. It's an important subject, that more need to talk about. Representation matters, and I'm grateful that Bioware understands that, it's helped me and many other people a lot.

I've raised too this "concern" in my family...my mother was mostly angry because she thinked I didn't tell her   (it was funny and dramatic at the same time: my mom telling me all sweet and cute "I love you the same, is not a problem, I'm just worried because people can be very bad etc etc..." and me: "mom...what are you talking about?") the "problem" was that many friends of mine really thinked I was lesbian too.

I remember cleary when I commented about a really cute guy, they looked at me like I grow up a new head.   they simply never had the courage to ask me if I really was interested in girls because they where scared I would feel offended or hurt that they knew.

I always was quite the tomboy and I became interested in boys late. an even if interested, I was always quite in showing my appreciation.
