This plus she felt that it was time to stop looking to the past for answers (Solas Greatly Disapproves).

This exactly too. I already said a while ago that I see vallaslin as a symbol of the Dalish clinging to a past that wasn't even that great and that they don't truly understand. It's time to move forward. Cari wants to look to the future and work with what the world is now because it has potential.

If Solas knew the real reason she gave up the vallaslin, he'd probably disapprove!

Oh my goodness so many pages to catch up on!  I'll try not to reply to conversations long since finished.  OoOOoOoo Vallaslin chart?  Can't wait til I get there!  (And hopefully I don't use up all of my likes before I get to the current page, lol)

Man, there's a lot of screenshots of THAT scene in these past few pages. Which leads me to, yes, I just did write a (comedic, cracky) post-breakup fanfic which features Angry!Lavellan stomping around Skyhold and denying that she is angry.  SWF, appearances by most of the companions/advisers.  You can read it here:

My sides! I love this, k_drake, even if it had me laughing into a coughing fit - no worries, I'll breathe next week. Hope you write more of these!

Hi Solas thread :)
I'm currently on my second playthrough with my Lavellan attempting to romance Solas - however, despite her best flirty intentions, nothing seems to be triggering romance wise.  I'm not after spoilers, but just an idea as to whether I might have missed something or if I should persevere.

So far my Lavellan has taken every flirt option where available.  She's done his first quest about finding the Elven artifacts. During Haven, she chatted with him a few times but there were one or two dialogue options left when I did the 'In Your Heart Shall Burn' quest - I thought they would carry over to Skyhold, but I only currently have the option to ask him about Corypheus - no cutscences or anything else seem to be triggering, including his second quest (I know he has one, but didn't do it with my previous quizzie - saved it for this playthrough).

I have yet to go Halamshiral or Adamant - I didn't want to accidentally lock anything out, but equally I'm wondering I need to move onwards to trigger the next quest.  Any advice?

Thanks :)

Have you flirted with anyone else?  Blackwall in particular?  I know some people were getting locked out because of flirting with other people...

Mine started as soon as I got to Skyhold... Have you been raising his approval? Or flirting with any other characters? I've heard some people got locked out by flirting with Blackwall...

You might just need to gain a bit more approval before it starts!

Don't go to Halamshiral before you start it, as there's some extra content there if you're in the romance! :)

Am I the only one that thinks it looks a little like inverted Kirkwall heraldry?

I thought the same thing, even had to go check.

There's still that issue with the Divine being the sacrifice, isn't it? I wonder if the sacrifice had to be her for some special reason, or if she merely was in the wrong place at the wrong time while Corypheus was prepping the ritual. That, plus all this business with the elven mosaics in the rubble... So many mysteries.

I agree though, we should learn what the mark has essentially turned the Inquisitor into. The mark is rather tied into Solas's business so I'll be surprised if it isn't brought up in a Solas-centric DLC.

There could be something significant about her- we don't know what rituals they undergo to become Divine, after all- and it would remove a challenger to his rule.

Walk me through how the Breach happens. Lavellan is just ambling through some caves at the Ashes temple and blunders into the secret Grey Warden sacrifice ritual, then she grabs the orb, and that's when everything goes boom, right? So inadvertently her power is caused by the largest blood magic ritual since the Tevinter magisters broke open the Fade the first time. Yet she and the Divine both survive the initial blast- how? The Divine might have been a spirit fusion to begin with, and Lavellan has the mark that saves her?

Aithne got hers removed. Mostly because she immediately leapt to the conclusion that since they were created with blood they weren't just ordinary slave brand but could actually be used to enforce slavery through blood magic. She'd already refused to drink from the well even though she really wanted its knowledge simply because she couldn't geas herself into slavery to Mythal (and also because she'd been fighting to keep the anchor away from one wanna be God and wasn't just going to hand control of it to a different one) so she was pretty horrified to think that she might have already done just that by wearing Mythal's Vallaslin.

Now she just needs to remember and replicate the spell he used so she can free all the Dalish before she figures out whether she can use the anchor to rip a hole into the Elven gods prison and whether she even should.

Thanks both - no no flirting with anyone else - she was created specifically for Solas!  I've only ever had positive approval with him, I even cheated a bit in some convos to get it higher!  Maybe I should try and do it a bit more if possible, see if that makes any difference.  Is there anything tried and tested that will raise approval?

If not I guess I will try and old save or restart, meh.  I just did all the Storm Coast and Hinterlands!

Thanks for your advice guys :)

Apart from dialogue options (act intelligent, ask questions, defend your opinions), you can find Elvhen artifacts to increase it. There are a bunch in every map. If you take Solas, he will tell you when you are nearby! :)

Speaking of the blood writing, which one did Zathrian and Tamlen have(with lines going left and right from the lips)? I can't find it, sadly. :( Come to think of it, I can't find the default blood writing for the female Dalish protagonist of DAO on the chart, either, though memory's fuzzy.

How far have you gotten in the main quest?

You can flirt a couple of times in Haven, but ultimately, like most romanceable companions (so I'm told; I've only romanced Solas so far), the romance doesn't really move forward until you get to Skyhold. After that, like everyone said, talk to him often, ask questions, raise approval, move forward with the main story, and you should start to see results.

So, my canon inquisitor has Mythal vallaslin. Shouldn't have let Solas remove them, she is bound to her since she drank from the well after all :D

And my powerhungry assquisitor who hates all shems (and can easily be said to want vengeance for what they did to the elves) has Elgar'nan. That's oddly fitting :D

For a minute I thought you were talking about my Aithne, and then I realized that I'm only a third of the way through the game, and that it's okay for other people to have the same name as my character. :P

Thanks for the gasp of shock.

I often see things about Lavellans that become disillusioned, but my Lavellan actually had a lot of her beliefs affirmed.  It probably helps that she wasn't a fundamentalist sort of Dalish, so her beliefs weren't so rigid that learning that they were inaccurate wasn't enough to destroy them altogether.  Learning that the elven gods were real, whatever they were, and that immortal elves were real, was literally something of a religious experience for her.  (All that time humans were telling her she was the herald of a divinity she didn't even believe in, and then suddenly one of her own deities appears...her whole world was spinning.)  Even before that, Solas broadened her perspectives, causing her to both question what she believed and to wonder that even the most fantastic Dalish tales even she had doubts about might be true.  Being an Inquisitor was always appropriate for her, since searching for truth was something that had always been important to her as a First and aspiring Keeper.  She's still devoted to learning about the past, while trying to make a better future through understanding their true history.  And if the Dalish, and her clan, her family aren't accurate to what the ancient elves were, she's still perfectly fine continuing down that path.  Culture is built on what came before, and the meaning of things change over time.  It was important to her that Solas accept her for who she is.  (Thus keeping her vallaslin.)  She's already given him a ridiculous amount of trust on all things, and she needed him to be able to trust her in return. I guess only time will tell...

I think I might have come up with a plausible explanation for why it had to be Divine a few posts back, supplemented by Mims.

It doesn't seem like Corypheus was able to finish the ritual. Justinia kinda slapped the ball away when he wasn't looking.  To what extent the ritual has already progressed, we have no way of knowing. There has to be some part of the Inquisitor's memory of what happened at the Conclave that's still missing. One second the Inquisitor is grasping at the orb in pain, the next second... she's in the fade with the Divine? And apparently the whole place exploded? There's a gap there.

I think they redesigned most/all of them between the games, so we can't be sure...

I think Tamlen's looks kinda similar to Falon'Din's. It has the same central "stalk" with branches coming off it!

The vallaslin chart came out! :D

Spoiler

Well, durnit.

I have Dirthamen on Tiger Festival. I was hoping for Falon'din, but guess it's close! Twins and all right? And she does operate under a ridiculous pseudonym. Makes sense, I suppose. I have at last decided her real elfy name is Enalen (ee-NAH-lehn?), if anyone had a wonder. "The child who appeared" is the meaning I am aiming for. Or "Childlike appearance" perhaps. In her backstory she was found by the Dalish as a small child and not born among them. It's tempting to flesh her out by actually writing down how she came to be since it's all rattling around in my head, but I dunno. I haven't written anything fanfic like in so long...

To those who do post fanfics regularly, what do you do with stories that aren't particularly about anyone other people would be interested in reading of? Keep them to yourself? Perhaps if I wrote it as a memory stumbled upon in the Fade by Solas, I'd feel validated that someone somewhere might want to read it.

Anyways here's a screenshot of her because no reason. I thought it would be a cute one, when she first meets Loghain and has words for him. But she did something stupid with her mouth that makes her sorta look like a petulant kid. Fitting, I reckon.

...I just noticed that the vallaslin chart has ©2013 at the bottom. They haven't been keeping this from us since 2013, have they?  Elves weren't even a possible race for the Inquisitor until they added on a year, so that seems weird. Maybe it was a typo...
