Anyway, it's def possible to do, it's called a lace braid or waterfall braid (different things but either would work) and it does work with short hair.

I'm all out of likes, so please accept this theory-face as a poor substitute:  

 

I'm with you on 90% of this.  The earliest Dalish creation myths describe the first phase of creation as coming from the interplay of two primal, Titan-esque entities: the sun and the earth, and lyrium is referred to in several contexts as the "blood of the earth".  As posted elsewhere, it's possible that lyrium is the physical embodiment of the original "Song of the Maker", so to speak.  

 

Anyway.   I should look up the full details, but if I remember correctly, in the tale, Elger'nan casts the sun (his "father") down, and only relents when Mythal rises from the sea to intercede and reconcile the two.  After this, the sun, the earth, Mythal and Elger'nan join forces to recreate the world.  

 

Obviously, being Dalish, this is the sanitized happy-family "everything Mythal and Elger'nan do is for the best" version.

 

It's possible that trying to create something on their own introduced dissonance into the original Song, inadvertently spawning the creation of red lyrium and blight.

Middle Earth was sung into being and within the song is the trouble each age will face. Not relevant but your post reminded me of Tolkien's creation myth and it's always been a favourite.

 

Rather than the creation of the world the dalish could have uncovered the making of Arlathan. Mythal and Elger'nan made the city that all other elvhen "gods" tried to emulate and surpass in their own corners of the world. I'm convinced the Primeval thaig is a elven and the fact it has golems makes me very curious.

I get the feeling it's more or less short for "real elvhen".  Considering the ancient elves and Solas don't seem to consider modern elves as true elves.  Hence all of Solas' "my people" confliction.  I think he sees Lavellan as an exception, making her "real" elvhen, and that makes him doubt himself.  If she's real, then all the other elves he's written off as lost causes could be real as well.  It could change everything, because maybe that means he doesn't have to go through with whatever he's planning.  But he isn't willing to back out of his plans. 

A few pages behind, but I 100% agree. EVERYTHING about his romance screams that he sees her as different from everyone else--he even says, "you were a mystery. You still are," and "you change everything," during that first romance scene. Lavellan is a mystery because she is unlike the other elves/other people he has encountered. In the second scene, when asks Lavellan whether or not her spirit (with hesitation in asking this) has changed since she received the anchor, because he's still trying to figure out however you got to be "you" and not like everyone else. Even before, when the Elvhen still roamed and he was not "alone", it's clear that he likely was alone in some ways.

What if lyrium is the very essence of creation? And it was corrupted by the war amongst the creators (who I persist in believing were not true gods, simply very powerful mages). In the art book the forward says the very basis for Dragon Age is a cautionary tale about the weakness of people. Sounds so much like our beloved Solas there. Bioware has also given our PC's and certain NPC's the opportunity to rise from the ordinary to the extrodinary (Warden, Alistair- king or US, Loghain- Wardens or US to name a few) so I don't think a resolution that allows Solas to change is out of reach.

For once I am uncertain if we might retain the same hero for another game. The ending of this one felt so much like "this is just the beginning" that I don't know if it could be resolved in a DLC. I certainly don't think the story of our Lavellan and Solas is over, although I'm not certain if my practical Lavellan rogue can resolve herself to a relationship with the Dread Wolf (although she suspected he was far more than he appeared to be early on). SIGH, I want to know now, not months or years from now.

I'm not sure if I even care if the mortality/immortality question is resolved. Bittersweet if it is not but I'm okay with that, just as I was okay with Shepard dying.
At least my Warden is with Zev ( finally located the letter in the codex).

Is it possible that Solas is who he said he is, somewhat?

By which I mean - when he talks about being a young boy who left his village to dream in ruins - could this be the origin story of the "body" that he's in, if that makes sense? A young dalish elf who leaves his village, goes out to explore the Fade/ruins through dreams, gets taken over by Dread Wolf, similar to Justice/Anders or the bodies of the women that Flemmeth "ate"?

 

I do believe that the stories Solas tells of himself are true. I think he started out in life as a normal elf who didn't feel a connection to the physical world as much as he did the Fade.

 

And after reading and listening to everything I could in my playthrough(s), I honestly think the elven "gods" were regular elves who joined with (one or more) spirits to gain extreme levels of power. That would explain a lot of things about them, at the very least. It would explain their power. It would explain why some of them would apparently swing from one extreme to another (Andruil, Falon'Din). Since spirits don't tend to willingly join with just anyone, and forced joinings/demon joinings tend to result in deformed abominations, that would explain why there weren't very many of them. It would also account for why they each had their own "domain", so to speak, instead of being omnipotent/omniscient.

 

I don't think their immortality had to do with them joining with spirits, though. All elves were apparently immortal (the "no mortal wounds = live forever" kind of immortal... is there a different word for the kind of immortal where you just can't die, period?). What caused them to lose this immortality is what's up for debate. Was it their connection to Fade waning? Was it thanks to interacting with a race that wasn't immortal? I don't really know. lol

There are also about a bazillion wolf statues in the Exalted Plains/Emerald Graves. It seems like there are a whole lot more wolf statues in most of the elven areas versus, say, owls or stags. Even in the Temple of Mythal, you don't start seeing a whole lot of dragon imagery until you're right inside (past the bridge) - the GATES to the Temple of Mythal are flanked by *4* wolf statues - 2 different models.

 

Has anyone got any suggestions as to why this might be?

Pretty sure that's a reference to the game Beyond: Two Souls. Cole tends to talk in game/movie references.

There are also about a bazillion wolf statues in the Exalted Plains/Emerald Graves. It seems like there are a whole lot more wolf statues in most of the elven areas versus, say, owls or stags. Even in the Temple of Mythal, you don't start seeing a whole lot of dragon imagery until you're right inside (past the bridge) - the GATES to the Temple of Mythal are flanked by *4* wolf statues - 2 different models.

If you interact with one of the statues in the temple Morrigan and Solas have a little spat about why they are there. Morrigan comments that it's blasphemous and it doesn't make sense why they are there... Solas argues (although kinda evasively) that history is not always correct, or something along those lines

 

I'm fairly certain in the Emerald Graves that it's stated somewhere that each knight had a loyal wolf companion or somesuch before they died, so that's probably why there's all the wolf statues there (I don't think Solas comments on anything there, but I bet if you asked him he'd do the same 'history is not always correct blah blah' evasively evasive talk)

HAHAHA and I thought my crackpot theories were amusing. Interesting idea, but Bioware is not going to mess with the Maker story because they don't want to deal with the fallout from Christian players.
