I can't help but think back to the thread's humble beginnings. My my how far we've come from dissecting what scotch bonnet candies could mean to debating Solas's future in the series, fully informed of his part in DAI.

If I remember correctly, the Dalish were founded by the Noble families of the Dales after the Exalted March. However...

The entry on the Dalish over on the Wikia mentions that that's only for some of the Keepers, and even references that many of them had the 'purest' blood from Arlathan. However there is no source. Soooo, who knows? Could be!

Lanaya mentions that some of the Keepers are descended from the nobility who governed the Dales (although she's proof that this isn't necessarily the case), and the developers said in posts that the elven kingdom had an oligarchy type system of governance. Finn, not the Dalish (in case anyone mistakenly thinks this is something the People claimed), is the one who said the Dalish had the 'purest' blood from Arlathan when he mentioned using Ariane's blood for the ritual to find the Eluvian.

 

As for the Dalish, they're the elves who managed to escape the Chantry forces who conquered the Dales, losing some of their tomes and information to the Circles of Magi controlled by the Chantry (which is why Ariane had an issue with the Circles in "Witch Hunt").

 

Generally speaking, I noticed some commenting a few pages ago on how the Dalish are apprehensive towards outsiders. Given that the Chantry outlawed their religion, thereby making the Dalish outlaws (which is why we hear about the Dalish being forced to leave when they spend too much time in one place, why the Sabrae Clan dealt with Andrastians threatening them to convert to the Andrastian faith, and why Lavellan can express how humans have been a threat to Clan Lavellan in the past), it's not surprising that the Dalish are wary of outsiders. They're certainly not perfect, but it's not as though their wariness of outsiders is unwarranted.

 

However, Inquisition does seem to offer the potential for a positive future for the Dalish, with both Inquisitor Lavellan and Clan Lavellan.

Does anyone else think that the I Am The One (yes, I know it was the end credit song of Origins as well) tavern song could also apply to Solas?

Some of those lyrics definitely remind me of one of the other tavern songs - Once We Were - which very much seems to be about the Dalish/elves.
