There's something about Lavellan having secretly loved him her whole life that is AMAZING about this story. And his reaction to all those moments is priceless. Wow.

 

Meanwhile, in-game, I seem to have acquired a Wolf Totem in some random loot in my travels. It went in the "valuables" inventory which, as we all know, is mostly just junk to sell to vendors.

 

I can't bring myself to sell it, though. My Lavellan is toting it around with her everywhere for reasons she doesn't quite understand other than it feels right.

He has some really heated discussions with Dorian (regarding slavery in Tevinter) and Iron Bull (comparing the Qun to voluntary mental slavery) as well.

But if it's true that his name was mistranslated, he's actually the God of Rebellion and not the Trickster God, so that makes absolute sense that he'd be anti-establishment. He's basically anti-anything that stops people from being free and - most importantly - being able to think for themselves without being weighed down by political or religious dogma. No wonder he's got a chip on his shoulders about the Dalish (besides the fact that they're getting the ancient past wrong) considering how much they venerate and feel tied to the Creators.

He says such thought provoking things. I've never thought of the idea that power always corrupts groups, but not necessarily individuals. I mean democracy is formed on the idea that a single person would be more likely to be corrupted than a group with a balance of power. Actually are there any democracy-like governments in this game? The Qun sounds communist and everything else is just monoarchy/tribes

I've been thinking about an odd grammatical construction but I don't know what it means.

Cole says "You're real and that means everything could be real. This changes everything. But it can't." In the vallaslin scene, if you say "whatever you're looking for, we'll find it together," Solas replies "No, it can't. You'll see."  Quoted from memory, so might be a bit off.

I don't remember the exact words myself, but my thought was that he's just referring to their relationship in general. That it can't change any of his plans. 

 

For myself, I've been thinking more about what he means by 'real'. Replaying the game, I now see a few instances where Solas mentions a debate over what is real and what's not. Definitely giving the impression that he possibly sees stuff in the Fade as more real than what is outside.

I almost wonder if the chip on the shoulder with the Dalish has more to do with them venerating him and his colleagues as gods... when Solas himself says he's not so sure the elven gods were really gods or just powerful mages/spirits/etc. If a god doesn't think of himself as a god, I imagine it's incredibly uncomfortable to have others thinking of you that way.

 

i.e. Maybe it's a little more... personal... for him with the Dalish as opposed to being respectful of other people worshiping other gods.

I think after being asleep for such a long time, the real world has to seem somewhat dreamlike. If you go by the assumption that Solas woke up, saw that everything he had done for the elves had resulted in catastrophe, then set his mind to his plans...it is certainly easier to think of all the people who might be harmed by him as dreamlike. If he really is immortal, people live and die in an instant. Hurting them in the short term for a long term goal seems logical. 

 

But then you have Lavellan, and most likely some of the other members of the Inquisition that Solas becomes close to. If they are real, then he might have to feel guilt over what he is planning to do. Unfortunately, from that line it seems as though Solas is deciding that even if he does feel guilty, he's going to go along with it anyway. Almost as though he can't stop.

I've read in another thread that Solas says somewhere that all Tevinter Gods(the Old Gods) are dead, including the last two. Where does he say that? Is there a link, perhaps?

 

Just had a funny thought: okay, an elf goes into uthenera for many centuries. And while he slumbers... all right, let's assume he doesn't need to use the bathroom or eat... but who cuts his nails? Toenails in particular. That must be a sight to see, a certain someone waking up after centuries of slumber.

One thing I really liked about Cass is that although she is originally presented as someone with very strict beliefs and morals, she is always respectful towards others and willing to question her own beliefs when things don't line up with it.

 

Plus she dares to break traditions and dogma's for the things she believes in. This is probably something that Solas respects as well.

He's very agitated by the Grey Wardens' plan to hunt down and kill the old gods. Possibly that's because he's worried they'll find the elven gods instead?

 

I assume the body goes into extreme stasis.

Anyway, I updated the playlist of songs mentioned in the thread and if anyone is interested made a youtube playlist so you can listen to all the songs all you like (I'm thinking about re-ordering the songs in the latter so the progression makes a little more sense, but for now they're in the order they appeared on in the thread.
