I made the same choices :)

I cant let Solas kill the mages because... I dunno. Its not like I dont let Garrus kill Sidonis. But that was a personal betrayal, Sidonis knew better.

The mages were just ignorant. And Solas is just so self-rightous sometimes.

Like his hatred of Dalish because they dont want to learn from him. The Dalish are certainly wrong, but how would they know about  it? They still are the only ones trying to understand old Elvhen history. I dont see any other group doing a better job (even if theirs is pretty flawed).

Maybe it turns out to be a hardening/softening quest? Like letting Leliana kill her spy in Haven. Or the DAO choices for alistair and Leliana.

I started a new playthrough with an elf and I got to admit I was surprised by the reaction of Solas toward the Dalish. I think that maybe he's mad thinking that after all his effort to free the people, all they could achieve during the last centuries is their own fall of grace. Or he's projecting he's own failure on them, because deep down he thinks he's responsible : perhaps he tried something in the past, something that was supposed to free the people but that, on the contrary has only precipitated their fall.

I feel the same about the self-righteous part. The first dialogue with him at Haven almost made me angry, then he spoke about the spirits of pride/wisdom and Desire/purpose. Somehow I though that a comparison could be established between him and what he was talking about, that if you expect to see pride instead of wisdom, you will find it and, that our perception of the spirits and our attitude toward them can influence them. Or perhaps he was trying to manipulate my inquisitor? Don't know.

He is definitely hard on a Dalish elf in that first conversation. If you take the "nice" dialogue option when talking about Elven culture, the inquisitor basically says that the Dalish are trying their best, and Solas does apologize and offer to share his knowledge. I also found it cute that the inquisitor calls him Hahren, and he calls them Da'len in return :)

"These steps are oddly sized" Briala said ahead of her. "Perhaps we were once taller," Felassan said with a chuckle. Celene wasn't sure whether or not he was serious.

Of course he was!

I-It's not like I liked that dialogue because I have a thing for age differences or anything.

The age difference is certainly much more immense than we imagined back when we thought he was just in his 40s.

Was there ever an official answer on whether or not isolated Dalish age more slowly than elves near humans? I've read conflicting things...

Also how great would it be to have a parody fic in the style of a Japanese high school drama. "I hope Solas-senpai will notice me!" (Can't decide if that'd be more Cole or Lavellan)

If you think about it it's basically Solas fault they lost it all to begin with.

More like Solas-sensei.

Not really- the elves all around made poor choices. they chose to become corrupt, to enslave their citizens, and to create a hierarchy based on who had the most magic. Yes, he may have placed the veil, and locked the Gods away. But the elves like other sentient beings had free will and their society destroyed itself .. Saying it was Fen'Harel's fault, or Mythal's fault, or Gil'Hanan's fault is just the elven people's way of sticking their heads in the sand and not owning responsibility for their own failures. It could well be if the Dalish of the time when they ruled the Dales were like modern Dalish that they also did something foolish to call an Exalted March down on their people as well. The thing is you don't really get the complete picture by listening to either Solas, or the City or Dalish elves ..it is like any story, there is the elves side, the elven gods side, the humans side, and somewhere at the center of all that is the truth of what Elven society was before the fall. I think the elves have spent a long time blaming other people and not owning responsibility for the fall of Arlathan, partly because they idealize the Ancient Elves failing to realize that immortality does not =infallibiity and partly because like most people they don't want to admit they failed in some way because then they would have to accept that most of what they know is false.

For all we know the creators set up the oligarchy. From what Solus said it doesn't seem like any of them were opposed to it at least (except eventually Fen'Harel). Who knows, maybe it would have rectified itself eventually without the installation of the Veil. We have no idea really...

So...

Solas opposes the Grey Wardens because he feels that hunting sleeping gods is a barbaric way to prevent Blights ?

I wonder if Solas has an alternate idea about what can be done to prevent the Blights.

And he dislikes the Dalish because they are wrong about the history they pass down, not recognizing its the product of thousands of years of efforts to salvage scrapes?

Spoiler

That gets me thinking, in what missions did you guys choose outcomes Solas opposes and why?

Personaly I saved the Wardens because I want them to restart things on a better ground. Just like I took in the Templars. Solas approved of absorbing the templars but not doing the same with the wardens. so he probably has a more personal reason not to like them (like wanting to kill his kin)

The Wardens, Cole's path, and...

Sorry if this has been asked but I'm rolling an elf. I'm just curious if I will be missing out on a lot romancing Solas if not a mage, because I really want to play rogue. I've come to hear that there is some mage+elf+solas specific conversation. Does this affect the romance a lot? Is there much content I miss out on?

Lob, why did you go for human Cole?

Im pretty tempted to put that choice in my story just to show Solas that ppl can change. Cahnge is not always corruption, even if you liked things they were before and so on.

Quick question: Is Solas supposed to have anything to say after Here Lies the Abyss? That, and how I dealt with Cole, were the only major choices I made that he disagreed with (having the Wardens join me, I mean), and I found it a bit strange that he didn't give me any stern words about it, while everyone else initiated some sort of dialogue about what occurred.

I'm just not sure if my game is glitched, or if it's been the same for everyone else.

Im playing archer and i never felt like missing something.

It also made more sense to me that way. With letting Solas explain things to Lavellan about the Fade, i could not verify anyway, so i took his word. Same with not being good as reading Elvhen, its ok since I wasnt destined to become Keeper anyways.

So yeah, it resolves some minor game issues for me.

He does mention your magic, I believe, but he has dialogue for all the classes in that respect. Just depends if you want the suggestion of being dominated or graceful. Or... if he enjoys your muscles...? Something.

I thought the Hahren-Dalen dialogue was great. I keep wishing Cole would comment on it. "Hahren. The taste of the word on her lips, and the feel of yours upon hers. She wants to say it while you're in the bedroom. But she's afraid you'll think she's a child. You called her Dalen. But she isn't a child. You should let her say it."

I might be including that in my fanfic.

I'm currently recovering from Solas with Cullen. And doing homework/studying for finals. I don't have the strength of will to ever make a Dalish again without romancing Solas.
