Okay, thought about this in the most recent tarot thread...

The Tower could be referring to ruin!!1, CATASTROPHE!!, and desstrruucction.

But what if it's more personal? What if it's not the world that's in for it - as we often speculate here in the Solas Support Group™ - but Solas's headspace that's in for a weird and wild ride? Maybe as The Hierophant/Pope (romanced) he's got more of a connection to the little guys ("if you're real, then that means everyone could be real. It changes everything, but it can't."), maybe he's a little less consumed by BIG IDEAS AT ALL COSTS, but even an unromanced Solas has dipped his toes in the water of mortality just by associating with the Inquisition...

*shrugs* It's just a thought. I still think The Tower is bad news bears for anyone not totally gung-ho about whatever Solas is cooking up.

 

Oh! I'm glad this was brought up again. I actually wanted to touch on this, myself. I'm trying to learn tarot, something I've been interested in for years (and now I have a DA:I card set, nothing is stopping me. >.>)

 

Anyway!

The Tower is never a good sign, so they say. But, it's more of a sign of change. It's not inherently bad. I think an unromanced Solas could be either The Tower or The Reversed Tower. Some lines about it really strike me as "Solas" when I read both.

 

 

Reversed: 

 

 

When the Tower shows in reverse, it is unfortunately still a possibility that some people/situations that you have counted on as being “there for you” may no longer be there in quite the same way. Try not to over-think this, it doesn’t have to indicate a major, horrible change in life. It’s just some change. Stay mindful of the reality that you either already have – or can get - all the resources you need, to deal with life and to do what you need to do.

 

 

Regular:

It is likely that some people/situations that you have counted on as being there for you may no longer be there in quite the same way. This doesn't have to be dire; change is the nature of life, and trying to prevent it is like trying to row upstream without a paddle. If  you have been building castles in the air this may be the time that some of them come crashing down to earth. That's only a problem if you let it be. You will be able to replace them with some more realistic and reachable dreams and goals if some fantasies fall apart. Dreaming is important, but it's also important to be living in reality.' 

 

Bolded for emphasis on how Solas says he's traveled the Fade and has dreamed in many places. While we know that's not necessarily true for how he gained all his knowledge, we do know that he was asleep for some time. Uthenera allows them to travel the Fade. Waking from his sleep, he expected the world to be different than what he had found, and perhaps seeks to restore that time. Even one of his lines early on when he's mad about the Dalish in your conversation with him he says: I cannot blame the Dalish for something they cannot achieve. If one of his goals is to restore what was lost, then these cards really scream out to me.

 

Looking at his other card, The Hierophant, again, both the regular and reversed fit very nicely.

 

Reversed:

 

 

When reversed, the Hierophant is still very much about "doing the right thing." In reversal, however, it indicates a more-than-normal level of confusion about what exactly the right thing is. The answers are within you… if, that is, you have enough information about the situations at hand. In this reversal suggests that you may need to dig a little deeper to find out “what’s what.” Remember that the "right" thing is what is right for you also. The reversed Hierophant can indicate that others don't really understand where you are coming from or why you think a certain course of action is the right one. It is not always necessary that your nearest and dearest "get it" or agree, once you have made a solid decision.

 

Bolded for emphasis on this line on the card. It's clear that he leaves Lavellan with questions, wondering why. He made his decision, and stuck with it. To leave, and cut things off, for one. 

 

Regular:

This is also a card that is very much about spirituality - everything from traditional religion to earth-centered spirituality and any other spiritual notion that you can conceive of. There may be a tension between your idea of spirituality and the "right thing" and the ideas of others around you. Stand up for your own beliefs. The "rules" and the "system" of doing things are probably playing a major role now. Rituals of any sort will be helpful to you now.*

 

 

Bolded this line because it seems majorly where Solas is at, especially at the end of the game and that final clip. 

 

All his cards really fit the ending, and can be really universally translated between all of the outcomes for potential DLC and next installment of the game.

Which made me realize... We still don't know wth Morrigan's original plan for the archdemon soul was. She gave up on it because she loves her son.

The Silent Grove mentioned that dragons (and possibly the Old Gods) are inextricably linked to the health of the world. The Well of Sorrows mission also mentions that ancient Elven knowledge and technology, dragons, etc. are related to the existence of magic at least according to Morrigan. The Old God soul, is a part of that old pre-Imperium magic Morrigan just didn't plan on her character development.

Also, it would seem that Solas trapping the Elven Pantheon and the Forgotten Ones outside of the Fade had something to do with the loss of magical ability in the Elven population. The Well of Sorrows and Cole's reference to "everyone sung the same" would suggest that the Pantheon had some manner of control over the general populous.

Solas' conversation about the Inquisitor giving up the Well's power and how "no group has ever given up power once it had it" might be a reference to the Elven Pantheon and what caused the Elven Civil War. Elven lore talks about the Pantheon defeating their creator the Sun (who could realistically be the Maker, the fire motif and "creator of all" fits), perhaps the Pantheon gained some manner of power that allowed them to rise up. The eventual misuse of that power lead to the fall of Arthalan.

There is also one in the mansion in the Emerald Graves. I don't recall what the name is, you may have listed it.

 

The guide is bad at listing them all. Maybe because they hadn't found them all themselves?

 

Regardless, though, it lists over 10 and I had all the ones listed there but no quest. Hopefully they patch to fix this soon!

Oh erm...feeling a wee bit shy posting since I mostly lurk, but I wanted humbly suggest this song (Fox Rain by Lee Sun Hee) for the playlist.  It's from one of my favorite kdramas, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, mostly for Shin Min-a (love her and the heroine in that drama is pretty awesome).  But I find the translated lyrics to generally be applicable.  It's just a really lovely song.  

 

I have to admit, Solas's romance took me by surprise in such a wonderfully, unexpected way.  I had no idea who my character would romance going in and was pretty much going to be whatever fit.  I thought maybe Josephine, but that bald elf pretty much won out.

Really want to jump in on the Morrigan discussion but it's been a shameful length of time since I played Origins or read anything related to her, so I'll have to keep quiet. 

 

Regarding Solasmancers. I've actually had a difficult time deciding which it is, though it's not as if it really matters. On one hand, I feel like they were close enough for the snick snack to happen, but on the other hand, I feel as though Solas wouldn't grant himself that pleasure. They would get close, and he would pull away, thinking about how it would ruin her. This is just my headcanon, and I'm probably just comparing it to other things I've read. Would love to hear some other perspectives on this. Did they, or didn't they... in your headcanon?

It would be too much to be that intimate physically, and though he wouldn't admit it even to himself, he knew their future was... shaky. So when things would get heated, he would reluctantly pull away (much to Levallan's disappointment) and bring up some clever excuse for them to be apart, or "remember" something he needed to do.

That's pretty much my headcanon as well. That, and I can't imagine Crythwen giving herself to anyone in that way while Corypheous is still alive and well. It doesn't suit the image I have of her in my mind. Perhaps she felt his hesitance as well, and that's why she never pushed on the matter, but I just can't picture her and him being intimate. However, that's just my take on my personal Quizzy and how she'd handle it. Frankly I like the fact it can go either way and that there are others who feel they are well past that point already by the time the third scene comes along.

And like you still reading the hell out of all the smut.. Hmmmmm, smutt.....~

My character became a Rift Mage, and Solas hasn't said a word. Sera talked, Cole talked a LOT, but nothing from Solas. You say he says something when you're a Knight-Enchanter? What about Mortalisi... mortalitasi? Is there a video, maybe?

And I've been thinking: way before the game was released for me, I saw Solas' Haven dialogue, and I was... annoyed. Not with Solas, but with his purpose. I didn't know the big spoiler - yet, I didn't know who and what he was, and I was just thinking that his life - really - was pointless. All he was doing was watching the Fade movies, basically. So, yeah, Good Wife, Once Upon a Time, some dose of Grimm and certainly Supernatural. Well done, Solas. And - what? What was the point? He was no scholar or historian to share his knowledge with the people, he was just watching Fade movies, and that was all. I still loved him, but I saw no point.

 

Then, of course, I learnt the truth, and everything was made clear. And the subtle trolling... oh, yes.

I'm undecided on which way my headcanon will go.  On the one hand, I'd like to think they were intimate shortly after he said "Ar lath ma, vhenan".  On the other, I think it would make their romance so much more...poignant... if the closest they were to making love was in the final romance scene.  He had just removed her vallaslin, and my Lavellan never felt so intimate/close to another person before-- thus leading to potential love making.  And then, he had to stop himself, knowing that it will break her heart even more.

I'm not sure. Solas doesn't seem like the type to resign himself to anything, but he's also a realist. Without his power or his orb, there really wasn't anything he could do. When I encountered him I was really surprised at how well he was taking the whole thing. But perhaps that was because he, unlike any of the others, had an idea of what was happening and why.

Based on his fascination with ~courtly intrigue~ and the fact that he knows how to dance ...even if he insists he learnt the court stuff... in the Fade... yyeah buddy I'm giving you the side-eye...

I'm headcanoning that in Solas's hot-blooded youth (as he calls it) he was like a super snazzy dresser. Like an elf nobleman. But after everything he sorta tempered out and adopted the apostate hobo look when he was humbled by, um, EVERYTHING? I love his woodsman look (thanks Dorian ) with the fur and the jammies and he is my absolute perfect hobo boyfriend who is ~above~ such petty concerns as fashion BUT WHAT IF HE WASN'T ALWAYS THAY WAY.

Anyone think he his Apostate Hobo thing is because he's just stopped bothering? In a, "I'm 2000 years old, I'm way too old for this sh*t" sort of way. Though I have a feeling that he did care at one point. He gets way too huffy at Vivienne and Dorian whenever they tease him.

 

Also I was wandering around the Emerald Graves today and came across an area called the "Rush of Sighs", which was this gorgeous river and waterfall. I just love the names of all of the different regions in the game.

I like to think that at one point that dredd wearing Solas with the pendant upon his forehead might have been what he was like in the past, complete with decent fashions and everything needed to keep up the appearances that might have been needed in his culture. Though I also see him as being, unlike Vivienne, someone who would eventually just say 'curse it' and strip of all the nice shiny things for his jammies and something actually comfortable. I think, after awhile, he just stopped caring and kept to his comfort from then on.

 

As for the hat... I'm honestly headcanon'ing it as sort of a mockery of the whole debacle. A tongue in cheek 'oh this is so cute, so people are still doing this' sort of stunt. At least, that's my hope. Crythwen burned it after their dance.

Morrigan's motivation, in her conversations, is to preserve old magic so that it doesnt die out...  at least that was what i took away from her conversations.  The second point, the pantheon having control over the general populous....  everyone sung the same....  blight relation anybody?  Its commonly believed that the arch demons sing to control the darkspawn, and red lyrium sings due to it being blighted.

Last point, nothing to do with anything, but solas gave corypheus the orb and he used it to tear a hole into the fade, was this the same way he tore his way into the fade years before when he "corrupted" the black city?  If so, it would make sense that Flemeth/mythal and solas/fenharel could have possibly been manipulating events back then as well...  the magisters did say that the old gods talked to them, maybe that was mythal or fenharel using their "singing" to control them.  Makes sense to me, if thats the case, then we have to ask for what reason is mythal/fenharel trying to tear open the fade?
