So, one of the things I've really been missing in this game is romance specific party banter. I think there's some, but it's pretty spread out. I love having Solas in the party and sometimes his casting gets pretty funny. So, I was running around the storm coast and this banter just popped into my head. I figured I'd share. Snippy, over-protective Solas is my favorite, especially when other party members tease him.
 
My brain may also be addled by sleep deprivation.
 
For reference, my Lavellan is a snarky mage, a knight enchanter, and accident prone. She fade steps off a lot of cliffs. Solas has noticed.

Blackwall: Solas?
Solas: Yes?
Blackwall: In that last fight, I, uh, noticed that you've got a preference for dropping a barrier around Lavellan first.
Solas: She is our Inquisitor, is she not? She carries the mark and we cannot close the rifts without her.
Blackwall: It's just... she's a mage.
Solas: A fine one.
Blackwall: Right, and she's more than capable of casting barrier herself.
Varric: He's got a point, Chuckles.
Blackwall: Look, I'm not saying stop. I'm just asking for it to be spread around a little more.
Varric: Preferably before one of us gets skewered.
Lavellan: I appreciate the gesture, Hahren, but I could do with a few less coming my way.
Solas: I will consider it.
 
Solas: Da'len?
Lavellan: Yes, Hahren?
Solas: We need to discuss your use of fade step.
Lavellan: Now? We're a little busy.
Solas: It is not pressing. I can wait until our return to Skyhold.
Lavellan: Oh... What's wrong with my fade step?
Solas: Nothing! Your control is masterful, your timing impeccable, I merely...
Lavellan: What?
Solas: Would prefer it if next time you looked before you leaped.
Lavellan: I don't fall off that many cliffs.
Solas: Only four by my last count.
Varric: So that's why you keep hitting her with barrier!
 
Lavellan: Solas?
Solas: Yes, Venhan?
Lavellan: I was thinking that you're expending a lot of energy. Maybe you could save those extra barriers?
Solas: Perhaps if you did not leap so eagerly into the fray, I would not feel so compelled to assist you.
Varric: Give Chuckles a break, Inquisitor. He's just worried you'll run off a cliff chasing after those rams.
Solas: It is not like it has not happened before. Repeatedly.
Lavellan: And here I thought you enjoyed patching me up.
Solas: (silence)
Varric: Ha! She's got you there, Chuckles.
 
Blackwall: Do you two need a moment?
Solas: No. I am fine, as is she.
Blackwall: It's just you've been watching her carefully since that last fight. I was thinking maybe you noticed something we didn't.
Solas: No. She is... well.
Blackwall: That last blade did swing awfully close.
Lavellan: It missed.
Solas: And I am thankful it did, Venhan.

This is real? Damn now I have to romance him with a Mage.

I'm reading the Masked Empire right now, and it's amazingly good. I just skimmed the first chapter when it first came out, but after DAI - well, now is the time. And now that I've met Leliana, Celene, Briala and others in-game and can really feel for them and appreciate them, it's an even better read.

 

Also, there's another cure for those Solas-deprived. But be warned, it may prove to be even stronger. Do you want to read a long, brilliant, interesting story where the protagonist is a balding dry sarcastic wizard, a doomed antihero? A story built on a very familiar world of magic and reviewed by The New Yorker, with its own TVTropes page? (If Patrick Weekes never read it, I'd be very, VERY surprised - and inclined to sneak a copy into his e-library, at that). Ladies and gentlemen, I present you Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality - and if you never read it before, I'm dreadfully envious.

I'm reading the Masked Empire right now, and it's amazingly good. I just skimmed the first chapter when it first came out, but after DAI - well, now is the time. And now that I've met Leliana, Celene, Briala and others in-game and can really feel for them and appreciate them, it's an even better read.

 

I finished The Masked Empire a few days before I picked up DAI. It was weird to see everyone, weird but awesome. I imagined Gaspard as having more hair

That sad moment when you look at the guide and just sigh, realizing it's another disaster in terms of actual usefulness for these sorts of things. At least it's hardbound and pretty...? *sad faces so hard*

 

 

That's pretty much my headcanon as well. That, and I can't imagine Crythwen giving herself to anyone in that way while Corypheous is still alive and well. It doesn't suit the image I have of her in my mind. Perhaps she felt his hesitance as well, and that's why she never pushed on the matter, but I just can't picture her and him being intimate. However, that's just my take on my personal Quizzy and how she'd handle it. Frankly I like the fact it can go either way and that there are others who feel they are well past that point already by the time the third scene comes along.

And like you still reading the hell out of all the smut.. Hmmmmm, smutt.....~

Just noticed this little gem of a banter between Vivienne and Dorian:

It made me giggle. The fade walking may not be directly responsible for any potential cataclysm, but there certainly seems to be one lurking more or less unnoticed within the inquisitor's inner circle of friends.

Just a silly idea, I know that a lot of people think that Solas wanted to use the orb to free his people (aka the other Elven Gods) but I can't help but wonder if he didn't originally just wanted to lift the veil and allow the spirits back into this world without releasing the others.

 

After much waffling back and forth, I have come to really think this is his plan.  "Bring Down the Sky"

I'm also still working on first playthrough and supplementing the blanks I still have with YouTube videos and the collective knowledge here, so my brain still has a lot of holes until I finally finish.

 

But I have two random thoughts/questions. They may not even be answered in-game, but figured I'd ask here.

So, we know Solas is Fen'Harel and that he was asleep/in uthenera until recently (right?).

 

What awoke him? Himself? Or someone/something else? Or is this left a mystery?

 

Also, we know/surmise that he was weak when he awoke and gave Cory his orb to... try and do something or other. Between his awakening and the orb turn-over, do we have any idea how long Solas has been awake? Like, did he just wake up, wipe the sleep from his eyes, and meet Cory? Or has he been hobo backpacking around Thedas for a little while before the orb stuff went down?

No, it's fanfiction. It's far too character specific to make it into the actual game. The fact that it's close enough to feel real is a nice compliment though.

While I personally think he wants to free the elven gods, there's certainly enough to suggest he might have another plan in works.

- He doesn't seem too fond of the elven gods individually.

- If Solas didn't kill Felessan, there's another entity trapped in the fade trying to gain access of the Eluvian mirrors.

- If the other gods murdered Mythal, we don't know why she'd want to help with Solas's plans.

 

As for how he woke up, we don't know. I rather like the theory that Briala unlocking all the Eluvian mirrors in Fen'Harel's name is what awoke him.

"Sorrows" seems to be a plot word for Solas-it's a part of how Cole describes him, and Cole is often Most Observant Character (and such a competitive field in this game).  Cole also has an offhand comment where he mentions someone who calls himself sorrows.  In the elven writing, the last one, the speaker describes himself as being cut by sorrows.

 
...And now that well has become even more complicated for me.  Am I picking up on something that isn't here, or are there more ways we can tie this word to Solas?
 
(Oh, and the most Solas/Inquisitor song is Maps by Maroon 5.)

I haven't read Mask of the Empire yet, but to my quizzy, Briala is some stupid city elf who knows nothing
