I think they had some things in mind, but nothing concrete. DA:O could have been a stand-alone game while still feeling complete. DA:I begs for a sequel or an expansion. Once DA:O was successful, I imagine they got down to fleshing out their ideas from before: what happened in the past, what is going to happen in the future, what does it mean, what is the larger lore, etc. They had to retcon quite a few things from DA:O, and I think part of that stems from the fact that they didn't really know what they wanted to do after that game. The number of retcons from DA:2, however, are few (if any - I can't think of any right now).

I feel like if they could go back in time DAO would have never been created, and it would have begun with DAI. I wish they would understand they had something good going in DAO

From what I heard they spent almost 5 years planning Thedas before DAO. And came with a long story arch. Is one of the reasons DA2 feels "forced" there was no way to avoid the mage rebellion because the entire game was written to show us how the mage rebellion started and bring Thedas to the stage they needed.

Not sure the fad rift was planned or a sudden inspiration after the MMO called Rift sold well :P

But they definitely have many things planned. Think of DA as like a "Babylon 5": It has a long story arc that will happen over many games

This is from my Dawn of the Seeker CD

I know the mage rebellion is the beginning of inquisition, but it felt like it only lasted for a few quests and then no one cared anymore.

I was still wondering about Solas' last quest "What lies dormant" I can't find an explanation of it anywhere, I thought it might've been his last romance scene that just got a name itself, but never actually showed up in the quest log. I found this though: http://answers.ea.co...ant/m-p/4068273So it seems that there might be a third quest after all? Maybe it's indeed a bug and hasn't been fixed yet which in that case *gasp*  OHMYGOPOTENTIALLYMOARSOLAS! But it hasn't been answered yet, I can't find anything in the guide about it either, except that it says he has three quests and "What lies dormant" is a personal plot quest, but it isn't mentioned further.

Do you think they knew since the beginning of Origins that they were going to bring Fen'Harel and a breach and all the into the game or do you think they are kinda making the story up as they go? I sorely hope they were planning this, because it means they have something big in store.

Yeah I mean

Spoiler

That right there is a beautiful way to put it. A lot of sentiment and emotion went into that in a way that just being naked and physical could never touch.

I'm still going with the idea that they did for my Lavellan, but that the sexual side of it was just as he said: an enjoyable benefit. They are adults, there is closeness and attraction, so why not? But the relationship itself seemed to be on its own spiritual level that didn't need them to be naked to express. I think that's part of what made it feel so deep for having less content than the other romances.

Maybe, but I don't think they'd planned for specifics. They might have  thissaid, "We have Veil and eventually it's going to go away," but once you get down to writing that and figuring out how and why, it's easy to come to a different conclusion than what was originally intended. There are a few big things (OGB, Lelianna and Wynne's death, the entire Qunari race), that they seemed to have to change from DA:O once they realized this was viable as a longer series. DA:2 would have worked better if rumblings of the mage rebellion had been more prominent in DA:O (and IMO if they'd spent more time on DA:2). I think they definitely have things planned out now, and generally had things planned before, but there's evidence they were a little hazy on the specifics.

I like to think of it like the Zevran romance: in the beginning he likes the Warden and is cool to fool around with her, but eventually his feelings reach a new level and he has to put things on hold. Once Zevran realized how seriously he felt about the Warden, he didn't want to sleep with her without it meaning something even though presumably they'd already slept together. That's basically how I imagine Solavellan.

The major difference is that Zevran eventually gets his mind straight and they live happily ever after, while Solas is mucking around doing his Fade thing.

Another Solas!quest would be amazing!! I thought I saw people say it's just a short war table option though? Not that I wouldn't be happy with that as well :D

While I personally think he wants to free the elven gods, there's certainly enough to suggest he might have another plan in works.

Spoiler

As for how he woke up, we don't know. I rather like the theory that Briala unlocking all the Eluvian mirrors in Fen'Harel's name is what awoke him.

When Blackwall talks to him he says something like "It's more complicated than that."

So by shemlen standards, yes. But I think there's probably something else going on - like a Vulcan mind-meld type of situation.

xD Everytime I try to imagine a spirit and him I just start laughing so hard. I imagine him humping an invisible person. So if it's like what you say, his connection to the spirits is like his to lavellan, except on a less deeper level?

So... last night I was running through Emprise du Lion and came to a tower. I picked the lock, ran upstairs, and looted a chest - and then heard growling. I turn around and there's this:

Spoiler

Why? When? How? No clue! They just magically appeared. They stood there and growled a couple of times, and then turned and single-filed all the way down the stairs. We followed them until we came around a pile of rocks and they took off after a deer. No matter how many times I encountered them running around after, they left me alone. Hilarious.

Figured this thread would appreciate that particular bug. :P

I don't think so, though they all seem to be asleep. The iconography is too different, their sphere of influence is different (elves vs. humans), and their manifestation in DA has been different (Mythal and Solas are both in humanoid bodies, while the arch demons are giant dragons). I think they are connected but not the same.

Well we know that Desire can take the physical form of someone, so it's conceivable other spirits could as well...But I don't think it's exactly like Lavellan. How do I explain...

Does that make sense?

It actually makes perfect sense, thanks!

I had a weird image of Solas riding a griffon in my head. Just imagine griffons came back and he, who is a wolf, is riding the giant lion bird thing.

Those wolves are ****** huge! Also that's kind of...adorable? Makes me remember that early quest in the Hinterlands where you have to save a pack of wolves from a demon. Cass comments that the farmers will be grateful, and Solas replies rather dryly that the wolves are likely grateful too.

I didn't even catch the alliteration. Hmmm... this will be infuriating.

The alliteration may or may not mean anything. I've noticed that Cole likes to alliterate a lot.

Like, A LOT a lot.

Awh Weekes, you're such a sweetheart that you let us decide if they did it or not. Wait... what am I saying, no you're not, you broke our hearts, you.. horribly... brilliant cruel man.. I can't romance anyone but Solas anymore, it's all your fault! How can I hate you and love you at the same tiiiimeee?!  :crying: Damn you feelings! *shakes fist* (I'm pretty sure the thread title is the best thing ever, oh how I love everyone in here...) Don't mind me, I'm just a permanent emotional wreck.

This is like me still playing with Solas is my party after he dumped me.

I had a moment in the Exalted Plains where wolves kept respawning over and over again where I was standing. It was an endless onslaught   I'm surprised there are any wolves left in Thedas after that.

I've been listening to the party banter because I'm procrastinating. Love Viv and Solas banter when she points out that he set his coattails on fire. Of all the people to get one over on him xD he was not pleased.

Just saw the convo with a Dalish inquisitor.  When prompted "crossed paths," he says he's offered to share knowledge, only to be attacked on principal.

Setting up the foreshadow that early, huh?

My thoughts exactly. Their relationship is so much more than physical. Add to that the fact that Weekes wanted the player to decide for herself if sex happened or not and the lack of us seeing any nookie didn't bother me. Their intimacy was way deeper than that. And that's why I can't romance anyone else, still have my Cullenmancer sitting at Skyhold and starting a new Dalish Elf warrior for Solas

Bioware what have you done to me!!!

DA2 was also forced into one year of development.  For me, as a rush job.  They did pretty good.
