Ha, yeah I brought Cass, Cole and Solas to the ball. I was gone to laughter with them introducing Cassandra's neverending names and then Solas as my manservant. I thought he'd be mad, but he enjoyed it. Cole hid in the library and commented that he didn't realise people were wearing masks. Oh Cole.

As my human noble I didn't take him, but afterwards I went to chat to him and he talked about missing that kind of atmosphere, I asked when he was ever at a ball and he began stuttering over his response. It was all very 'Er, well, I mean I've never been to one properly before, I mean in the Fade'

He's amazing in the main quests.

 

I didn't bring him on the mage quest cos I had to bring Dorian, and I try not to bring more than 2 mages (since I was a mage)

I didn't bring him to Halamshiral because I thought it would the be ideal quest for Viviene content (she didn't do ****)

I didn't bring him to Adamant because I was partying with him for hours before that and thought I should switch it up (brought Dorian instead)

I did bring him to the Temple of Mythal tho. Cos duh, elves.

 

Maybe on my playthrough where I romance Dorian I'll just bring Solas with me everywhere.

I actually didn't bring Solas on most of my main story quests. I was trying to branch out from bringing the same people with me all the time. What a fool I was.

 

Have you been to the Temple? Definitely take him along for that one...

 

 

I would double up on mages as necessary for quests or banter, but Solas was always along. I don't feel the need to drag my romance interest everywhere as a general rule, but in this case it made sense to have the bleeding Fade expert who is otherwise a font of knowledge travel with me, you know?

 

Normally I bring my romance around thinking that I will get all of their dialogue/banter out of the way during that playthrough. By the time I've romanced everyone I've usually experienced all the unique dialogues. Little did I know I'd want to romance Solas on every playthrough, and that he'd have so many interesting things to say in so many quests.

But if you sided with the mages you'd have gotten the "Mage Quest"

If you side with mages you get Dorian early and if you side with templars you get Cole early

I believe he even slightly disapproves when you ask him about it, lol. Either he's annoyed with himself that he let something slip or annoyed at you for catching the slip, either way, it's funny that it's one of the only questions you can ask him that doesn't result in approval.

While I do want Solas approval on a level I also can't really go against my moral on some issues like when judging or saving people. I decided to take in the wardens which was the first "greatly disapproves" I got from him. I do try to think of the choices from the Inquisitors point of view and I also like the idea of them not agreeing on everything but that Solas still respect and love her since he knows she is trying her best and that it's for the better good.

 

Do you guys load every single time he disapproves or do you just accept it?

Nope. They're adults and can understand that they won't agree on everything, but can still be respectful of the choices that are made. I got some disapproval from him for things, but so what? The only thing that made me think long and hard was the warden decision, but that was because Lavellan couldn't figure out if it was better to get a possibly easy to corrupt group of people far the F away from them, or take them in to watch them. I banished them in the end, after killing Stroud. Probably that will come back to bite me later. I really wish we had more options to ask our companions their opinions on the big decisions like that.

He says he loves the smell of betrayal, sex and gossip or something like that. He talks about how it's been a long time since he was to one of these events and tells her that he's been to these sort of parties in the fade before. Since he is introduced as the Inquisitors personal elf slave he will reject you when you ask him to dance since it will cause a ruckus but says he'd love to dance later in private. In my opinion he seems a bit drunk and sounds much more cheerful and talkative than usually. When you leave him he happily shouts "Happy hunting!"

 

Well now I need to do that. Drunk Solas has to be best Solas.

The Warden Choice and Cole's path were the things he didn't like in my game. But my Quizzy had her reasons for all that, so he had to deal with it. I also guess there were a few other minor things here and there, but I never bothered reloading because it wasn't worth it. The approval was HIGH ENOUGH.

It's my favorite of the three systems. DAO's was too black and white, and manipulating it was easy. I totally just buttered up Morrigan with a ton of gifts I bought from Bodahn to sleep with her, to the point I had to break up with her twice because she couldn't get the hint she was a fling and I wanted Zevran. DAII was a good system, and I liked how there were perks for rival/friendship. This system feels more natural because you have to infer about the relationship instead of looking at a bar. I also like how on large choices everyone has an opinion, so you can't just not bring someone to game it.

I do miss gifts, though. The style in DAII, not DAO.

The clearest thing I recall about his dialogue at the Winter Palace was his line where he's talking about courtly intrigue... he also mentions sex. Gah, I wish I had a save I could load to get that dialogue again, but all I can really remember was my reaction. I was just like, "Wait, wait, what? Repeat please?"

He also has a banter with Vivienne that triggers after the ball:

Solas: Such mistakes are opportunities in disguise. Nobles say things around servants that they would never say to Cassandra or the Inquisitor.
Vivienne: Yes, anyone who wishes to play the Game learns to use her servants effectively. Although I am surprised to see an elven apostate catch on so quickly...

I like it a lot more. Especially since your choices seem to influence approval whether or not that companion is in your party. I can't just stick Solas in a closet when I know I'm going to do something he doesn't like and hope no one tells him...

The big decision he disapproved of was me making Cole more "human". I still can't decide if that was a good move or not - independent of Solas. I think in the future I'm going to drink from the well of Mythal and he's not thrilled with that decision either.

 

I like that generally, there aren't many decisions where getting disapproval means that person hates you forever. You have to make a pretty big effort to really drive someone off

So I just found my first shard in the Hinterlands, and Solas was the one to pipe up.  He said, "I cannot say what it is, but there must be a reason the skulls illuminated the shards."

So... last night I was running through Emprise du Lion and came to a tower. I picked the lock, ran upstairs, and looted a chest - and then heard growling. I turn around and there's this:

Why? When? How? No clue! They just magically appeared. They stood there and growled a couple of times, and then turned and single-filed all the way down the stairs. We followed them until we came around a pile of rocks and they took off after a deer. No matter how many times I encountered them running around after, they left me alone. Hilarious.

 

Figured this thread would appreciate that particular bug.

 

No, seriously, I think it's done for a reason.  Spoke to the Horsemaster's wife a few minutes ago and when she gave me the wolf quest she said that spirits or something else was bothering the wolves.

Well.

 

Now that I know about all the stuff I missed by not bringing Solas to the ball, and Weekes' comment about if they slept together being up to the player...I feel like Solas and my Lavellan had a more normal relationship than my playthrough showed.

 

It's gonna take me awhile to wrap my headcannon around this. I like the idea that it doesn't have to just be stolen kisses hear and there, with him always being like, "we shouldn't do this," all the time. But it's kind of blown my mind that they could have had some "normal" moments.
