oh well....maybe it is just me, but even without knowing this background, you wouldn't consider that he just wants elves for uhhh well... Especially after he has so many problems with elves, even if he is...or kind of...is...an elf. I mean, it doesn't make sooo much sense. I mean, ok he prefers elves, but there is no REAL reason... -.- I don't know how to explain it.

I think it's probably because of the kind of story they were trying to tell with the romance, tbh. That scene where he tells you about the Vallaslin for example. And all of the talk about his conflicted perceptions of the Dalish. It just felt very tailored to elves. Practically, it was also a lack of resources. I do think they could've made it work with other races, but it wouldn't have been as deep and meaningful. As for his perceptions of the elves, this is what I wrote about it in another thread:

"I think the contradictions make more sense when you realize that Solas is very much a fish out of water. We don't know how long he's been asleep for, but that final scene gives the implication that he only woke up recently. And when he woke and saw what had happened to the elves, presumably as a result of his actions, he's horrified and guilt-stricken.

From some of his dialogue with the Dalish Inquisitor, we can gather that he first tried to approach the Dalish and tell them about what ancient Arlathan really was, but he was cast out and ignored. And the city elves are so marginalized and scattered that their priorities center more around survival than regaining knowledge about what they once were. So even though the elves of modern Thedas are technically "his people", he feels alienated from them. The people he fought for so long ago are gone, replaced with elves that think his rebellion was some sort of betrayal.

And he does value people of all races because he believes in people. But he's also an elven god(?). He feels responsible for the elves in a way that he doesn't for humans, qunari, or dwarves. I also think that he doesn't have a ton of experience with people of other races. He's seen their memories in the Fade, but his primary point of reference has always been Arlathan back in its golden age when Elves were to ancient Thedas was humans are to modern Thedas."

Weekes is excellent. Most of the best parts of ME2 and ME3 were his doing. And his personal novels are also great.

I've read his Rogues books, I know he can write happy endings...

Out of curiosity, which parts of ME2 and 3 did he write?

I was definitely a little nervous about Masked Empire when i saw it was the first one Gaider didn't write. But I liked it the best of all of them (sorry Gaider! *runs and hides*)

In party banter with Sera he asys something about "But wouldn't you be more attracted to someone of your own race?" That's not exactly whats he says. I think it's in the conversation where Sera says, "So you and the inquisitor, huh? Of course, 2 elves bumping bits so it will mean more" or something like that.

According to the DA Wiki:

Patrick Weekes originally worked for the Mass Effect writing team, writing for characters including Jack, Tali, Kasumi and Mordin, as well as the Rannoch and Tuchanka story arcs of Mass Effect 3 among many other contributions.

Rannoch and Tuchanka destroyed me emotionally.  Jack, Kasumi and Mordin are some of my fave characters in ME (even though Kasumi has very little content I adore her).  Seems to be he is the man responsible for some of my biggest heartbreaks.  Damn you Weekes!  (Worth it though.  Some of it is heart wrenching, but it's also very memorable)

He wrote Mordin, Taly, Garrus, and several others in ME2.

In ME3, he again wrote for Mordin, Taly, and co-wrote the Tuchanka plot arc with Dombrow. He also wrote Rannoch.

Plenty of other bits as well.

Mac Walters wrote Garrus in 1/2, and John Dombrow wrote him in ME3. I know because I said Weekes wrote him before, and got corrected on it by someone > >;

Weekes is an amazing writer though, no doubt about it!

He definitely wrote for Garrus in ME2, although I have no doubt there was some co-writing with Walters. There's an interview on Bioware's blog where he takes credit for the romance scenes at the very least.

I really love this one:

Tat1_zpsfaa0340b.jpg

But this one is assumed to symbolize the god of craft, and Terrwyn doesn't really identify with them. I ended up restarting her PT to change her vallaslin to this one:

tat3_zpsfe7c3978.jpg

I believe this one symbolizes Mythal - and my elf identifies with Mythal the most.

The mother of the gods - Terrwyn was to be the Keeper.

Goddess of love - she is loving, and always considers others before herself.

Mythal showed Elgar'nan that he was wrong to act on vengeance so readily - Terrwyn pulls others back from the brink if they allow her.

Solas also is biased against dwarves and Qunari. He says Dwarves are just a torn limb of something much bigger. And we all know how he feels about the Qun.

That leaves humans and elves and him being an elf and seeing how humans enslaved his beloved elves...

Still, reason for him to refuse male elves, since he isn't much tied to the physical side anyway. Guess that is where the lack of resources and time came in

PS: Love the Mythal tree

Ah, really? That's pretty cool then about the romance scenes as they were my favorite! Yeah, I just got the information from Mac's interview here: http://popwatch.ew.c...-3-mac-walters/

"Do you, as a writer or a player, feel close to any of the characters?
Having written Garrus in the first game, that’s a character I’ve always followed. I wrote him as well in the second game, but then handed him off in Mass Effect 3. "

It doesn't really matter at all xD I'm sure a bunch of them help out each other, so they can't take full credit for it anyways.

Or, really, sometimes people are just straight. It happens. If that's how his character was imagined, then that's who he is. Respect really needs to go all ways for sexual preferences, you know?
