When I was discussing the game with my friend last night, she assumed the same thing.

 

Her: So, is he a throw-away or...

Me: *cackles madly*

Her: ...I'll take that as a no. Should I romance him?

Me: *shrieks and nearly dies laughing*

Her Husband: Oh God, hun, I'm not going to be around for that again. Not after Anders. Not again.

Her: Damnit. 

Hes the bad boy all the girls like of course you should romance him.. I am a long term bad boy romancer- fave DAO playthrough .. Maharial/Zevran, Fave DAII Anders/Hawke (M or F doesn't matter), and Fave DAI playthrough Levellan/Solas.. and of course Garrus/Shep in ME2 and ME3

I think it took until Skyhold for him to accept that Solas wasn't going to get offed dramatically and be replaced with another character. When we spoke on the phone he said something to the effect of: "Man, this guy is just hanging on!" 

 

The only unfortunate thing is I don't know if he knows DA lore enough to understand the ending reveal.

What if Solas is only bald because when he woke up he was like "im not repunzel go away hair" and he jsut knda chopped it all of and he actually does have hair he just recently cut it. IMAGINE sOLAS WITH LONG FLOWING LOCKSSS OMG i wanna jump him

I just had this Cole Solas Banter. Solas is talking to him about

Cole getting more human. And Solas says, he never thought he could see this happen, or something like this. Cole asks him about him seeing this. And Solas again repeats, he didn't say this. Whereon Cole means, that he might have misheard it as the hearing gets worse. ... Soooo maybe Cole didn't misheard him!

 

Someone mentioned, that Solas might be a spirit himself too. So what if he became human too? Just an idea.

hello fellow solasmancers  i just finished my solas romance and gosh.... i did the right thing to have romanced bull and then cullen first. i had to get mentally prepared for this (god bless spoilers). but now im afraid i'll only romance solas from now on (i'm a masochist)

 

that last scene... lavellan made some nice rage lines, i loved it that you're able to yell.  i just HAD to see all of the dialogue options for that scene.

and gosh that was a big number of loading screens i had to watch. so i made a compilation video of all dialogue options from the last scene if anyone's interested or too lazy to wait for the game to finish loading to see it all

I really, really love the dreadlocks. But...

 

I think had they gone with his original design, Solas would have been too obvious a character. My brother recently started playing, and often described the cast as 'Cassandra, Varic, and Redshirt.' He was absolutely convinced that Solas was a throw away character.

 

Now, there are times when a character design like that can kill you. You want characters to look like main characters! Except in instances where the character is deliberately hiding something. I think Solas's design helped make the eventual reveal so shocking. 

 

But I absolutely believe Solas had some ridiculously fabulous hair in the old days. Perhaps cutting it off was even symbolic.

While I too love the conceptart, I think ingame it would just have been too attention-grabbing. Especially because dreadlocks in characterdesign usually evoke a sense of... uniqueness? Like if you want a character to stand out aesthetically, dreads usually pop up very quickly in conceptarts. (Just look at the conceptart of Subject Zero, for example) This probably is tied to reasons that are problematic in regards to appropriation, but that is a whole different discussion I won't start here.

Also I think it was also a matter of game-mechanics. You can equip all characters with cowls / helmets / hats, and dreadlocks usually add quite a lot of volume to the scalp, especially in the way that the conceptart for Solas shows it. So equipping headgear on dreadlocks would have been... quite a challenge. Unless you simply remove the hair so the headgear fits on the skull of the model.

I just found this transcription online, but in my game I think Bull said something about Dorian rather than just "Tevinter mages." I don't remember for sure, though (they were bantering while fighting, so it was a little distracting).

Yep. He just calls you 'Inquisitor' in a particularly emotionless tone. 

 

I headcanon that at least at one point he slipped up and called the Inquisitor 'vhenan' again and then caught himself, but not before making her immensely sad.
