Before Inquisition came out, I had no desire to romance anyone besides like... Cullen. Eventually I knew I'd make a playthrough for like Iron Bull or Blackwall maybe, but Solas? I was like, ha, no, not attracted to him, whatever.

And then during my first playthrough I was so surprised by his character and how much he hated everything my human Inquisitor was doing, that I felt slightly bad for him and decided to make an elf for my second playthrough to romance him. And the rest of the game cemented that. Now I don't know how I'm ever not going to play an elf and romance him. I think he has the most relevant romance to the plot. Dalish elf FemQuisitor is the way to go. I'm struggling to play other races now

Even though I was romancing Solas at the time, I couldn't resist picking that teasing line either, just to see what it was. They went from almost at each other's throats to agreeing with each other so fast. lolol

Also, knowing what you know if you've finished the game just makes Solas's... contempt, I guess? that much more obvious (and funny).

Yeah it's kind of strange! I based my first character more off of me and then decided to make an elf to do a bunch of opposite decisions and such, and I ended up liking my Lavellan a million times more than my first inquisitor. Feel much more of a connection to her and I love her to pieces. And Solas... sighhhh

I picked that line too...  It was too funny not to.

Now that I'm playing a new Lavellan with a Morrigan who romanced a Dalish elf (who fathered the OGB- I have to see how that would play out), it should give some new meaning to the Mythal quest.

Solas was a huge surprise for me, I didn't expect that this character that didn't really have a huge amount of hype pre-release would end up as one of my favorite characters in the entire series so far by the time I finished my first playthrough. Superbly written and the VO is excellent, he'll probably end up being one of the best antagonists BW has ever done in the future. At least I think he's going to be an antagonist. Not necessarily in the "mustache twirling villain" sense, but as someone whose goals are in direct conflict with the players and probably the majority of the world of Thedas as a whole, goals that he fully believes in and sees as the right thing to do. His sad parting words of "whatever happens, know that I respect you deeply" would indicate whatever he's planning isn't good news for the Inquisitor, and though he regrets it, he sees it as something he has to do.

My Lavellan is my self insert, oh I should say, my FIRST Lavellan is my self insert, I was always planning to pair her with Solas and then move on to someone else, I wasn't going to get stuck in this thing like I did with Alistair in Origins..that was my biggest fear really lol, but then it happened, everything about him and their relationship just feels like it was bloody well tailored to suit me as a person, I relate to both of them so well...I'm so screwed...

Relating to the subject of wolves from a few pages back, I coincidentally saved out this image from my game just before turning it off last night... because reasons. (low quality)

I am the only one hoping they give us an Loghain esque choice regarding Solas in the next games of the series? I would be so disappointed if they just make him an villain that can't be reasoned with and needs to be killed no matter what.

Has anyone else taken the perks that let you unlock extra dialogue on history and whatnot?

Oh god I know. Origins. For me, IMPOSSIBLE to not romance Alistair. I've tried. I even had him exiled as a drunk one playthrough just to stop me from completing his romance. It was terrible. I like Zev a lot, and I would love to romance him sometime but I just cannot get away from Alistair's charm.

I can't even play through Origins as a male PC because I hate that I can't flirt with Alistair. Siiiigh.

I wanna make a new Lavellan just for Sera, but I'm afraid I'm going to try for Solas. Again. Lol

If they made him an antagonist all I can say is I wouldn't be able to play the game anymore, sad right?  Sorry..I don't wannna see that.  Unless I have an option to influence his actions, talk him out of whatever he's planning, or help him find another way then I don't want to know.  He's become number one for me.

Banal nada, it's not inevitable that his goals will be in conflict with Thedas as a whole. It's really time that the elves come in from the cold and establish New Arlathan, an elven homeland.

I think apart from the obvious charm the character has (my god he is so sweet!) the thing I love most about the character is the rhythm he talks in. I know Weekes (I think) made jokes about how Solas speaks in some kind of meter on twitter before release, but only when I started talking to Solas did I notice how extremely well done this is, to the point where you instantly recognize

Spoiler

even when it's not Solas' VA talking.

I'm constantly amazed by it - it's a perfect combination of superb writing and delivery by the VA. It is really, really perfect and I really hope we'll get to hear a lot more from him (and I don't say that only because you know, more Solas is always good!).

Sigh!

Okay, I really need to know if he also says this with a nonromanced inquisitor.... So many possible theories  Also what does he mean "once cared for" ..doesn't he care anymore :'(

I'll go back to my Cullenromance save later and check, I need to know too!

Does he say something different after the Big Bad as well? I heard if you pick the "Tell me you don't care/tell me I'm some casual dalliance" option that he doesn't say "what we had was real," he says something like "you were right to be angry".

now i get what you're talking about. yea, that is correct

This is what I see happening. I think he probably has good intentions but that's bad news for most people. He has some ominous banter/ambient dialogue/responses after the Temple of Mythal about a willingness to fix things no matter the cost (or take regrettable action, etc.). He does seem aware at the end that an Inquisitor who befriended him will feel betrayed by what happens next.
