Is it just me or are the romances getting crazier each game?

Well, I went from a possessed Grey Warden to a god.  I wonder what the next step will be in DA4?

See, I think he could actually convince me that it might be a good thing. Just like Anders convinced me blowing up the Chantry was a good idea.

 

And I don't just say that as a love-struck Lavellan that would do anything for Solas. I have an open mind. I'm willing to listen to why he would think it was a good plan.

That;s assuming what happened was what he really wanted. He says at the end he wanted to unlock his power but he couldn't do it in his weakened state.  Cory always wanted to go back to the fade.  It doesn't seem to be Solas' goal.

I liked merril's romance,  then again she is just an adorable puppy at times. I love merril thus in my second world state she and lady hawke are a couple. my first world state is hawke/sebastian.

Definitely. If "all" Solas wants to do is remove the Veil and turn things back to how they were before, Lavellan is all on board. If he wants to bring back the Gods that had such a thirst for battle that they had to be bloodied in their own temple, Levallan would be less enthused, but might still be on board with some persuading. If it's something worse...I'm going to have to consider it. But how bad could it be (famous last words)?

 

If that's all he's planning, it does make me wonder why he doesn't ask Levallan if she's on board. Especially since that conversation can go pretty well. There must be something more to it than that unfortunately.

"break-up" wasn't actually a break-up and that's why we got the romance achievement soon after.  Solas says himself that he's grim and pessimistic so it's not like he's going to actively try to stay with her.  There's no doubt he remains in love with her and will still be in love with her by the time they reunite, but he's not going to have any hopes about their relationship surviving all that he's unleashed.  He can't forgive himself so he can't see anyone forgiving him.  I think that's a big difference between him and Anders because whereas Anders believes he's right (and hates himself), Solas questions his actions (and hates himself).  Who knows, though, maybe Anders would become more like Solas if he sleeps for centuries and wakes up to find things are worse because of his actions (not like they already aren't, but I digress).

 

I don't know if we'll be able to change Solas' mind that he doesn't need to do this, whatever it is, on his own, but I think we'll at least have the option to be there for him at the end.

 

I'm surprised Solas had so few scenes, even non-romantic, considering his plot relevance.  I wonder if they were purposely trying to downplay him or if they scrapped some ideas for him in the process.  Before we get a Wolf Hunt DLC or something similar, I'd like a DLC that adds more "meat" to his romance in the game, like the option to introduce him to your clan or for him to take you on another Fade date  I also would like more commentary from the other characters on the relationship.

Based off of the banter with Cole, I'm pretty convinced he is trying to release the elven gods.  We know he locked them within the eluvians and he called it a "mistake made by a younger elf".  Cole says "they sleep, masked in the mirror, hiding, hurting, and to wake them..."  I'm just wondering what that means for all of the races who are not the ancient elves.  I'm betting the elven gods will not be too pleased with the current state of the world. I can imagine them cleansing the world of everyone who isn't one of the ancient elves, if they have the power to do it. I was also bothered by what he said, while channeling through Cole, at the end.   I know it's something small, but he said "someone I used to care for"... does that mean he has already discarded everything we were to him?  I hope he's not ready to sacrifice everyone he fought alongside, and Levellan, in order to achieve the world that used to be.  If so, then I am going back and drinking out of that damn well!

I know if you drink from the well and you tell him that you'd use your power to bring everything back, he sounds so relieved, almost like he's about to cry. Then he breaks it off. Pretty sure there's a lot more to it. I wonder if he wants to protect her? To me, it seems like he was considering having her help him, then he's like "nope nvm i'm sorry."

Although spirits seem way more one-dimensional in their personality whereas Solas is complex. I think it's more likely that he just spend a lot of time with them and appreciate them over humans because of their purity

I don't think he's exactly like Cole, but I do think he is more than just an ancient elf. To me it doesn't seem realistic that there would have been a handful of powerful elves that everyone just happened to worship as gods because they were the most powerful. I think they must have been different in some way - either because they possessed a different type of knowledge or because they actually were different. Maybe they like Anders - real people joined with spirits - and that is why they represent ideals like "rebellion" and "the hunt". Solas is a little more complex than Cole, and seems to need things that Cole doesn't (like food). Plus I think other mages can sense that Cole is a bit off and no one has said anything like that about Solas.

 

Either way, I don't disagree that part of the reason he broke it off with Lavellan has to do with her being a distraction to him. I'm sure he would find it easy to get swept up in being in love with her and abandon whatever it is he thinks he needs to do. I still don't feel like I have enough information to figure out what Cole/Solas means by Lavellan being "real," sadly (it's a mystery I'd love to solve).

 

Sidenote: I am trying to re-create my previous Lavellan in the cc but I didn't save her sliders. It is so hard I wanna cry, but I feel like a Lavellan with a different face would be an imposter ._.

What are your estimates on when the dlc/expansion will come out? I think if it's 3 months it'll be a dlc. I would rather wait more like 6 months for them to do a good job.

of course one must ask what is a god or goddess?
 
As a polytheist IRL(I practice hellenisomos or greek polytheism) my view of what is a god or goddess is much more loose then someone who is used to the monotheistic view. As an example, I do believe that places can have nymphs, nature spirits, to them especially natural features, like rivers, lakes, mountains and so on. 
 
I bring this up because when people talk about 'true gods' I always wonder what they mean by that. The elven gods may have been powerful mages, though considering they can jump bodies they have some interesting magic. they may not need to be all powerful but that doesn't mean they are no less true IMO.

 
as for the chantry, my lavellan doesn't care at all about it. She remembers the stories of the exalted march against the dales and in her view the chantry is part of the reason why alianages are so horrible. In her mind they support the abuse against elves or at least are not outspoken about it. Not to mention she doesn't agree at all with their view of magic.
 
This is in direct contrast with my trevelyan who is strongly pro-chantry, albit she is a bit of an idealist and reformer. Navilia Trevelyan is devoted to andraste and the maker and believes that the chantry is a force for good. It has made mistakes she will admit but it is ultimately in her view a force for good.

On topic, I agree with you- it all depends on how one defines a "god". Solas says a true god wouldn't have to prove his power, calls the elven gods spirits, mages, or "something else". I figure if something is godly enough to be mistaken for a god...

You know, I'm not sure. He's definitely more built than the male elf Quizzy, though. Solas has broad shoulders for an elf.
