And he is the personification of age old melancholy. Cannot help it, I love the Crowley deck so much that I try to interpret the ingame cards that way.

Weren't the character's supposed to have the same romance budget? And wasn't it implied that the "extra" romances would have the same amount of content. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but maybe the did just decide to extend it in a DLC/Expansion.

So wait. You don't get to have woo breaks with Solas like you do with Cullen? Oh, no. I don't mean have sex. I mean when you romance Cullen, you can go visit him and ask him for a kiss, whenever you want after the romance is established. You ask him for a kiss, he says give me a moment to get away, and there's a cute little scene of them kissing out on the battlements outside his office. Then he goes back in to work. But you get to do it whenever you want, so the romance doesn't feel so empty.

 

Solas doesn't have that?

That is indeed what they said. Solas's may have been reduced since it seems like all of his companion content was reduced.

Solas promises that "all will become clear." I think the word choice makes it sound like he's not actually going to stop and explain things but the results of whatever he planned with the orb would be self-evident. Then the orb breaks and he runs off in tears distraught.

I think that he actually believed he would get a chance to explain things, and didn't anticipate

It could well be that the Inquisitor is a Dreamer. given the prevalence of Tevinter ancestry in the Free Marches where your human Quizzy comes from and the predominance of the Somniari (Dreamer) gift amongst the Elves (Remember Feynriel in DA2).. exposure to the Orb could have woken up her abilities  it could well be that she is an untrained Dreamer after all Feynriel's gift as a Dreamer did not appear until he was in late adolescence. This could explain why Solas feels she is different - because she is a Dreamer as well and just has not been trained- after all neither the Dalish nor the Circle in Kirkwall could train Feynriel (though I think given the ancestral hatred of Dreamers amongst the Elves- won't may be the more correct answer) they had to send him to Tevinter

I think the word choice is deliberately evasive about actually explaining. I don't see why he'd have phrased it that way instead of just saying that he'd explain if he actually intended to explain. It's an alternate interpretation.

Hi I'm new here, but just wanted to say how much I enjoy the character Solas and his romance. Even though he has less content than the other companions (or so I've heard, I've only done his romance so far), it's really well written. It's a credit to his writer for managing to squeeze out that much emotion and depth into a handful of scenes.

I like that they left it ambiguous how physical the relationship was. For some reason I think a straightforward sex scene would have taken something away...I don't know, I got a very Chow Yun-Fat/Michelle Yeoh vibe from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

The tea scene was really hilarious I thought. Foreshadowing? The writers poking fun at this trope?

Anyway I knew going in it was probably going to end the way it did...actually I was expecting worse so I hope the writers will surprise us and we'll get to see more.

He does have less than the other romances pretty much I'm afraid (covered in FAQ), but what is there is great in quality.

I don't have a twitter account, but I wonder if this is something we can ask PW on twitter? Not in an accusatory, "how dare you not give solas as much romance content" way, but I'm genuinely curious and I think a lot of other people in the thread are. Does he not have a 'kiss' button because it wouldn't fit his personality? Or was it just pushing the budget?

When he talks about being unable to do anything short of dropping the Veil and remaking reality, I had to wonder... is the seat of the Maker is a mystical artifact like the Imperial Manse in Exalted? Corypheus certainly seems to think so. Weirdly, I'd also think more characters would be concerned about the Inquisitor's ability to go walking in the Fade at will but that's just me.

I don't know if you've seen this post or not but I took the sphere on that section of the mural to be the Fade. Black City at the center and many layers about it. Complete with multiple eyes like the Nightmare demon.

It definitely wasn't there before I started upgrading Skyhold, and it looks to be in the same style as the elven fresco that Solas painted.

Guys and gals, I was looking at Solas' default tarot, and I realized something. Maybe they are hidden hints? We can only speculate, but check this out.

In the card we see the symbols on the spheres being the sun, and underneath it the earth, and then on the other side the moon, and underneath it the sea. In the elven Pantheon,

Elgar'nan is "born of the sun and the earth", while Mythal is born of the sea and created the moon. We see all this symbology on the card, and I wonder what his relationship to them was exactly. We know that Dread Wolf is Flemeth's "old friend", but what of Mythal? Since we know Mythal was a separate entity from Flemeth before she was murdered, maybe she isn't portrayed as a motherly figure in the lore accidentally?

Just interesting to ponder.

I'm working on a SolasxLavellan playlist on spotify. Going to use it for writing my fanfic once exams are over. I guess I'll have to try to find my fanfiction.net account again.

 

Unfortunately since there is just so little interaction with him, it leaves so much open to interpretation. I have some ideas of expanding on it. Such as in the beginning, Solas mentions that he was nearby, watching the events of the conclave. To bear witness to it, similar to how Lavellan was sent by his/her clan to witness the events. Wouldn't it be interesting if they met beforehand?

 

Also planning to re-do my playthrough once certain bugs are fixed regarding his romance. I can't decide game to finish with first though. I've spent over 110 hours on my Lavellan, and about 50 on my Trevelyan.

Eh, I seem to remember Alistair huffing off with all that nice equipment I gave him when he decided being a wandering drunk is better than watching me make a man Warden out of Loghain, so not sure Solas running off with his gear (and not defaulting it back to you) is a good indicator of anything.
