Am I the only one rather pleased that Solas is not our necromancer? That was the only aspect that was nagging at me as far as character traits go. (Mainly from the aspect that if he were apostate, elf and a necromancer, he would find very little support in other companions as I think the raising the dead stuff is going to make the Cassandra and Cullen types very nervous)

So come on Monday!

I don't mind past love interests as long as my character gets to be the only current one. No cheating or doubts, thankyouverymuch.

I was actually hoping for Solas to be our resident necromancer, but I'll make do with Rift Mage (we just need more info on what exactly it is).

I also just have to say I'm sorry to any ladies that wanted to romance Dorian, I really wish everyone could have gotten what they wanted. I'm actually afraid to go lurk the Dorian thread now. I just hope that what ever we find out about Solas, this thread stays positive and I hope that we don't get an influx of negativity from people who would have preferred Dorian. I know the Sera thread got a bit rough for a while.

Stay positive, people!  Would Bioware keep the only elf love interest to F/F only?  Solas has a good chance, based on past odds, of being romanceable (and possibly bi).

Dorian is confirmed m/m, and Cullen is probably m/f which gives Solas a great opportunity to be bi. They said DAI would have more romances than any previous Bioware Game (which I took to mean DA/ME) so 6 Romances is the minimum. It is entirely possible that we will get a 7th or even 8th romance.

Confirmed Romances are:

Males:

Cullen (Straight or Bi)

Dorian (Gay)

Female:

Cass (Straight or Bi)

Sera (Gay)

Very, very likely romances:

Males:

Iron Bull (Bi)

Female:

Scribbles (Straight or Bi)

So I'd say there is a good chance Solas is a bi romance option.

I know right, I didn't like the idea of Solas being our necromancer too much either but I was pretty sure that Dorian would be that guy, so I'm happy with this outcome. This is all makes me ten times more excited than I already was though, we can rule quite a lot of things out now with all the Dorian info :D As mentioned above indeed, feeling very sad for the women who wanted to romance Dorian, so why don't you all come over here to stay a while and be cleansed of your sadness by our silliness and positivity? :D

said this in the Cullen thread as well when someone commented about it, but yeah I imagine it stinks to not get the romance you were pinning your hope on. Let's just make sure the Solas thread at least tries to keep things civil :D

I'm glad he probably isn't a necromancer too. :)

Further positives:

- When they update the website class section with the remaining specializations, with the blurb about Rift Mage we would have some idea about Solas's capabilities.

- And a big one, to me: They probably wouldn't make two quite similar companions in the same game's companion cast, much less make two quite similar male mage companions in the same game's companion cast. I'm not saying that we have confirmation that Solas is the polar opposite of Dorian, but I think it's pretty safe to infer that a good few of the traits which appear to be prominent in Dorian's personality (witty and sarcastic, a real smart-alec, cocky, jaded "fight the power!", reveling in his flair for magic, charming and confident) will be absent or considerably less so in Solas's personality. What do you guys make of this idea?

Ghostmessiah, they later clarified that by the "more than any other game" romance comment they meant any other DA game.

I was quite sure Solas would be Rift mage after his introduction in the magazines.

I thought Solas being a necromancer might be interesting, but rift mage sounds cool, and it's the new spec I'm most curious about.  And I remember there were some of us who were really unhappy with the idea of Solas being a necromancer, so I imagine there's going to be more than a few glad about the news.

Indeed, I popped in to see how they were handling it and even though I'm never in that thread I'm pretty proud of them and being a part of this community, this is how it's supposed to be I feel  :)

Maybe because most were expecting him to be gay. I'm glad to see the ladies are being good sports so far ;)

Solas being a Rift Mage also makes it easier to make a spec decision for my Dalish mage.  Knight Enchanter, here I come!

I thought he would be a necromancer too, just based on visuals, because - and don't take this the wrong way because I certainly don't mean it in a wrong way - he looks a bit like Vincent Price meets Nosferatu.  In a handsome way?  Does that make sense?  Anyways, Rift Mage is just peachy keen with me, and I think he might actually play a role in helping out the Inquisitor as their hand-power-thing seems to connect them directly with the Fade.

Well Dorian turned out to be everything I expected him to be. David Gaider wrote him, he's the gay love interest, he's the necromancer and he's the mage Vivienne has arguments with. Nothing in that interview came as a surprise to me but I'm glad it's all finally official, at least!

Maybe I'm weird but I find I'm a little less excited about Dorian now. Good thing Solas is coming up soon!

I think Dorian was expected to be m/m more than Sera was to be f/f so that helps. And if the thread does go through a rough patch, and it might judging from the not nice comments made about Solas on other threads, the Cullenites are a excellent example in how to behave and respond to the negativity. :) They either ignore or report the more obvious attempts to be vile but take the civil disagreement in stride. A path, I think as a whole we are already on!

I thought Solas was going to be the rift mage because of his "fade expert" description, but I think that could still be really interesting. Possibly even a lesser known type of magic than what Dorian has.

I would've been fine with either, really, as I find necromancy to be pretty neat. However, once we got that first look at Dorian in the demo and his ties with a necromancer, it seemed to be a given (to me, anyways) that he would end up being the necromancer and Solas would be the rift mage. And when you think about it, it makes sense for Solas to be the rift mage anyways!

As Eric said in the Dorian thread:

Dear Ladies,

Growing male genitalia: the magic of the DA:I CC

I have no issues whatsoever with playing a dude :P

I have to admit that I was hoping that Solas would be the witty and sarcastic mage. Now I'm leaning towards the silent bookworm type which also fine by me. At first I thought Dorian and Solas would get along well because I thought Solas would be the necromancer and Tevinters usually are pretty open to all kinds of magic. But since Solas isn't a necromancer he might actually have some problems with Dorian, especially if he has the same view the Dalish have of spirits. And being an elf, I doubt he'd be happy about having a Tevinter magister in the party.

I wonder if there will be banter in which Dorian and Vivienne are fighting and Solas is caught in between.

Vivienne: I'm telling you it's gaudy! I have no idea why you'd even want a staff like that?

Dorian: Probably because it angers you? I just love to see the fire in your eyes, it's so, what's the word? Ah yes, horrifying.

Vivienne: What?! Fine, if you're going to be like that Solas and I will just leave.

Dorian: No, Solas and I are leaving.

Vivienne: I doubt it darling, he likes me better. Right?

Dorian: Don't make me laugh, you like me better right Solas?

Solas:....I...uh....don't bring me into this....I beg of you.

I'm happy too. I could see from miles away that him being the necromancer would refuel the "ewwwwwww he's so ugly and creepy" brigade. I didn't personally mind but I was thinking that the Rift Mage specialization would probably better fit with the Fade expert.

And then, out of nowhere, Dorian and Vivienne team up and rip Solas's fashion sense to shreds
