I apologize for choosing the rude path.  What I wanted to say was:

 

No one needs to be protected from disappointment.  A decent number of your posts have told us that there's almost no chance of Solas being an LI and that we shouldn't get our hopes up, so by now most people have read your sentiment and have already chosen to think and feel the way they do.  You have made quite a few great points and brought interesting speculation to the topic in the past, but I probably won't get to enjoy those aspects anymore because I've stopped reading posts that begin with the "This is why you shouldn't think that Solas will be an LI" thing.

 

Here's the thing:  If he's not, I'll probably be the least disappointed.  And if he is, I might very well be the most gleeful.  And I'm as much within my rights to share an opinion as others are.

 

It's one thing coming to the thread to find it's exploded with 20+ pages of glee from new info/good news, and quite another when I worry that at some point in the near future I will be wading through 20+ pages of disappointment.

 

I want people to stay hopeful and cheerful and fun, but I AM worried people are getting too excited and will be disappointed.  And sure, it's their right to be overly excited and disappointed.  It's also my right to be hopeful but cautious, and I'm not eager to face 20+ pages of sadness if it turns out he's not an option (because I'd find that depressing).

 

I'll also freely recommend that if you dislike my posts, you may put me on ignore.  I won't be offended because I won't know or care that you're not reading my posts.

I still think Solas has an alright chance of being an LI. Personally, with race gating, I think there will be 4 LIs of each gender. It would be extremely difficult to make the 2/2/2 stretch for race gating.

 

Confirmed male options are;

Cullen

Dorian

 

Suspected;

Iron Bull

 

Remaining;

Solas

Varric

Blackwall

Cole

 

So, really, I think Solas's real competition is Varric, Blackwall and Cole. We know Cole is extremely unlikely based on David Gaider's reaction. Blackwall is even older than Solas and he's a warden that's probably near his calling. Varric has his thing with Bianca, which they've talked about in interviews (that he may not be ready to let go, or something like that) and it's been hinted Bianca's story might not be done, as if she might still appear at some point. So, out of the remaining males, Solas actually has no more, or even less, argument against him being an LI.

 

Yeah, I know I made a big post with evidence against it, but my biggest issues are the "kids these days" thing someone else earlier in the thread pointed out, and the fact that BioWare may be looking to break their "all elves are LIs" pattern (they already broke the "all elves are bisexual" pattern with Sera).  Other than that, considering Iron Bull will most likely be race gated against elves, Solas could be a solid possibility.

 

Then again, so could Varric, and people have pretty much BEGGED for Varric, and if he were available instead of Solas, I admit I wouldn't be too hurt by that.  Would prefer Solas, but I remember enjoying Varric in DA2.  The big thing against Varric is of course Bianca--the crossbow and the woman.  It might go against his character to be a romance, thus again Solas is the better option.

 

Cole is a big NO.  Mentality of a child, also likely asexual.

 

Blackwall... Doubtful.  People do find him very attractive, however (I don't, but mostly because I'm not into beards), and even if it might be nice to have more nonhuman LIs, straight woman Inquisitors only seem to have one human LI option, whereas straight males will have two human female options (okay, where are the nonhuman options for dudes, I just realized they don't have ANY except Iron Bull if they're okay with m/m).  Also, being close to his Calling could make for an interesting tragic romantic arc.  He and Solas may be close in age.  Beards, especially if they are greying, can make a person look older.  But against his favor as an LI... he's very devoted to his perceived duty to the greater good as a Grey Warden.  It likely puts him at odds with the other Wardens, but in DAO we're basically given hints that Wardens are meant to cut past ties and allegiances.  They leave their families behind, etc.  Everything is traded for the greater good.  Romance might be seen as a distraction from that greater good, or duty too important to set aside time for romance.

 

The downside is that if there are eight LIs rather than 6, well... then the ONLY non-LI woman of the Inquisition becomes Leliana.  That lends some really creepy vibes imho in terms of how women are being portrayed in this game, if nearly all of the women are romantically available in some way or another.  This COULD be somewhat mitigated if Iron Bull and one of the women are more "fling" types, but it seems to me that qunari players may find themselves race gated away from certain LIs (i.e. Sera and Solas if he's available) and thus Iron Bull would almost certainly be a full-fledged LI to make up for it.

Overreacting?  I'm actually not upset at all.  It seems to be the others who are upset, by me pointing out that there's a lot of potential--POTENTIAL--evidence against Solas being an LI.

It's gonna be the way it's gonna be, and I'm prepared to be disappointed

 

I'm not really someone to complain about the romances, honestly I'm fine so long as I have one that I like

I don't mind playing as a male for Dorian either, but I'd like someone for my female as well

 

The problem is, Cullen who's definitely an option for females is not my type at all

IB with his "sleeps with everyone" reminds me too much of Zev, and Zev only worked for me because he eventually makes a complete 180°

Blackwall will probably die soon (and he looks like my Dad lol )

& Varric is difficult. I actually liked how devoted he was to Bianca, so romancing him would kinda break it for me... But if I had to pick someone aside from Solas it'd be him, hoping they do it well

I'm not arguing with you any more than I'm upset; if you wish to argue it will be rather one-sided.  As I said in a previous post to another poster, if you dislike my posts, please put me on ignore.  It won't hurt my feelings at all, and you won't have to see my posts unless you click the little button to show them.  We both win; I don't have to deal with rude responses and you don't have to deal with reading content you don't want to read.

Well, having so few ladies on the team is definitely not a good thing--NPCs and advisors are not the same, impact-wise, as companions.  But then to have so few and to have only the one who was an LI in a previous game be unavailable to the Inquisitor would be rather... tacky.

 

But we're not here to discuss that, we're here to talk about Solas.

 

I'm curious as to why the devs haven't answered what his actual eye color is.

I agree.  I remember someone saying that women weren't represented well within the party and a dev responded that they didn't focus on gender balance within the companions, especially since women are very strongly represented in the major characters throughout the story as a whole.

 

Edit:  Also, they're not going out of their way to make everything completely balanced when it comes to romances (for example DG saying not all race/gender combos will have equal romance options), so I don't think they'd necessarily shy away from making 4/5 of the female companions/advisors available in some way.

 

I think we could use a Solas right about now (oops it was literally just posted  well here it is again because I like it that much!)

I was really excited about the concept art version of him and rode the "please be an LI" train pretty hard, but once I saw how much he looked like my dad in game I knew...

 

 

Solas, on the other hand, doesn't look like any dad I know so he'll remain on my DILF list.

If Solas IS a romance option (there are points for and against, I'd argue slightly more FOR than against but only if there are more than 6 romance options)...

 

I believe due to the stoic/introvert/dry wit personality we've been told about, if it's awkward the awkwardness might be on the Inquisitor's side.  More likely his reactions to flirting (or initiating flirting, though I doubt after complaints about Anders that will be done again) might be subtle, testing the waters as it were (which would result in a slow, drawn-out romance filled with lots of subtle flirty comments and possibly vague double entendres that you might not immediately catch due to deadpan delivery).  Or they may be extremely direct, which would lead to a Zevran-like (but not identical) path of sex-before-eventual-admission-of-love.

 

If he's NOT a romance option, fanfiction will be had by all.

 

Edit:  And yes, yes I AM trying to redirect the convo from Blackwall-Looks-Like-My-Dad, because Solas.

Yep indeed, I would probably have romanced Dorian aswell if he would've been available for females, but maybe I'll create a nice handsome elfquisitor for him in a later playthrough I'm definitely going to have Solas in my party almost 24/7 even if he's not a LI, just because his personality is so darn amazing, I don't want to miss out on a singly snarky comment

Well my opinion on romance reveals is: be prepared to be disappointed, and if your romance of choice is indeed a romance you'll be pleasantly surprised.

 

Time to change the topic back to Solas' tight pants.
