What I find funny is looking back on the interview Patrick Weekes gave about Solas being a regular elven apostate. I remember thinking that he didn't even seem that into his own character, especially with his really excited Iron bull interview, if I only knew! *sigh*

I remember raising an eyebrow when reading that interview.Mainly because Patrick Weekes said something along the lines about liking to keep it simple.
I mean it's Bioware,nothing about the characters is simple.
Plus I was one of the vehement supporters of the Solas=ancient elf theory,which I wasn't ready to give up until the game contradicted me.

Honestly, if Solas and Cullen hadn't been added, I wouldn't have romanced any of the male companions with a female Inquisitor. I probably would have just romanced Josephine (with a lady) and Dorian (with a man) and... stared longingly at Solas and his bald head or something.

 

When there was basically only a name to put the faces, Solas was the only male companion that caught my interest for a female Inquisitor. If he hadn't been added as a LI, my intent was to pair up with Sera and together take over Southern Thedas. My only regret is I did his romance arc first, because now I can't do any other ones.

I'm glad they're not planning an "Awakening-style" expansion. It was a real disappointment to have new companions rather than our old ones (especially our love interests). I hope the DLC has an interesting story, and is not just a new area with mostly side quests and little actual plot/ dialogue. It would also be nice if the story is at least moderately plot-relevant, and continues the story after the final battle. It would be a let down if it was just another area like Crestwood, where we rescue some people and do some side quests without learning anything new or getting any significant dialogue with our companions.

lol ya I did the same on my Cullenmancer and Solas completely ignored the fact that I had had a smoochfest with Cullen and told me he couldn't forget our kiss. Unlike you I couldn't resist and had to reload a save cause I jumped into his long elf arms again

his kiss scenes are the best i can't even! its really hard i have to admit, i was thinking of going for ironbull in this vengeful/opposite run that way when they argue in the party ill take it as a sign that he's jealous

Patrick wanted to leave the "did Solas and Quizzy do the elven mambo?" question open to each player to decide. So there would be no sex scenes. Also he is a companion, companions get less scenes than advisors (So Cullen gets 8 and josie gets a bunch).

 

Other than that, he was added late in the game and will dump you so I understand why we got so little.

 

I know about the sex scenes thing, but I wish we could have asked him for random kisses like all of the other companions. They did say they would have an equal amount of content for romances in spite of the race restriction, and as of right now it seems like Solas definitely got the least despite the amount of meaning and depth his romance had. I'm not unsatisfied or particularly complaining, not at all. Just I would've really liked to randomly kiss him or a little bit more in between that big gap between his second scene and last scene.

I only really latch onto one or two possibles when they are first revealed. I didn't know you could romance anyone in DAO until my second PT. XD Went for Alistair first, got bored, then latched onto Zevran like white on rice. DA2 rolls around and I am BEGGING for Anders, then I get to know Fenris and I love him MORE. For DAI, mine were Solas and Cullen, and we all know how unlikely it felt they would be implemented - and they almost weren't. But somehow, I got my two hopefuls! I also really love Dorian, and have an M!Quisitor for him rearin' to go (pun intended). Iron Bull was a "meh" until I've gotten to know him. Blackwall is still...I don't know. I'll have to actually pursue his romance to judge for myself. AND THERE ARE STILL THREE OTHERS I HAVE TO ROMANCE HOLY CRAP. Maybe except Sera. She and I haven't got along.

 

But my two hopefuls have been fantastic, heartbreak and sunshine and all. I love them so much. 

 

Cullen and Solas are going to be the ones I'll be profusely apologizing to and crying for when I'm trying to get with the others. Stupid sexy human and elf god.

^ this. Companion interactions are more than DA2 but less than origins.

Problem is DA2 is a much shorter game in comparison to Inquisition, so it feels as though the interactions are less, particularly if you rush through the main story and don't trigger all of them.

And then on top of that Solas (and I've noticed it with Vivienne too) has less scenes than the others so it feels like Solas is very much outside of the main group. That may be intentional with his ending whatnot but it seems strange for him to have like 0 non Cole related companion scenes. You'd think he'd have ticked someone off with his elfy righteousness at one point or another. Maybe a prank or two from Sera?

 

Basically to me it feels like we got a bigger world but the interactions and character development is not substantial enough for the size of the world.

 

Also to go with the discussion about romances, I'd probably have defaulted to a Josephine romance every female play through if it were not for the Cullen and Solas romance. I have little interest in Blackwall, and don't much care for Bull as a romantic option. Then there's Sera... I dont really like Sera....

 

Edit: or a single quizzie. I'd make up some story about how Cassandra stole her heart but does not want it and thus her feels were crushed.

Nothing wrong with playing a lady inquisitor! Did you have the option to dance with Josie? If neither were available you may not have been far enough along in the romance.

Especially since we go from acceptance in the second romance scene to rejection in the third with nothing in between.

 

Basically to me it feels like we got a bigger world but the interactions and character development is not substantial enough for the size of the world.

 

The main quest was also pretty tiny, relatively speaking. The more open world can be fun but it took a little too much away from the story and characters, I think.

While one part of me agrees and wishes we had more "courting breaks" aka smoochie times with Solas,the other part finds extremely endearing the fact that almost everything about Solas is uncertain and vague,like you can't really take him for granted since he constantly says that he and Lavellan can't be together but you also can't deny the attraction between them.His evasiveness is as charming as it is frustrating.

I think we are lucky they decide to put in the romance. Imagine if instead, they spent the time showing Solas taking you to explore Fade runes or Solas reading passages from a book to you. That would be so frustrating because I'm sure he'll be cute anyway, but we can't do anything about it.

A "last moment addition" romance,that turned out to be one of the best written romances in the game.We are very very lucky!
