I see mine as 28-30 has had lovers (male and female), been in love, has known people who died and had to kill in order to protect the clan. The break up hurts but it doesn't break her.

So yes Solas and my Lavellan did have sex but because of how busy things are it's been in the Fade more often than not.

Delurking again to share some art I made today ahah. Drew my Solas-manced inquisitor a tarot card, the card I picked to go with it is The Moon.

*snip*

I love that.

The iconography and fresco art is one of my favorite things about this game.

I said mine was older, as well. Mid 30's, anyway. I also imagine mine taking the breakup with a good bit of composure. The difficulty would be that I'm rp'ing that her clan was wiped out, which actually happened in my game, much to my shock. So Solas would have gone vamus after he knew that she had lost everyone. I imagine after the clan thing that she paid a visit to Cole, and kept what happened under wraps in order to not shake confidence in her leadership.

My FemShep was in her mid 30's. Not even the same universe but it's not that uncommon to have older characters. The main difference between FemShep and my DA characters is that the former has an established career by the time you meet her. They make a point of having you fill in a back story for Shep that includes at least one major military event. Whereas the DA characters are random people off the street that rarely have any established achievements.

I also like viewing the DA stories as "coming of age" deals. Maybe Lavellan isn't wrecked over Solas (though OK I totally headcanon Romance with a capital 'R,' true-love, archetypical, our-souls-were-made-for-each-other love that would be permanently painful to lose, but I'll put that aside). I do imagine that once everything in her life stops going at 10,000 mph it hits her how much her life has changed: she lost her boyfriend, lost her mentor, lost her clan, lost her identity (vallaslin), is no longer certain of her culture, no longer has a set path in life (she was going to be the Keeper, now what). She doesn't have a definitive goal to focus on with Corypheus gone and it just hits her that the world is huge and everything is different; "you can't go home again" kind of deal. That's what I imagine would make her depressed for a little.

Then she'd be like, "well...apparently I don't know **** about my own culture so time to go learn about it."

I'm more pointing out skyrim because I *think* i remember (my memory sucks) mentions that skyrim is what bioware was influenced by. Morrowind for sure is still the best, They could stand to make a graphical remake or help the people doing skywind find some really good voice actors that wouldn't mind helping them out but overall yeah...

I'm curious, is it possible for the protagonist to die in this game? It never really felt like my character's life was in a lot of danger after Haven.

Not unless you lose the game. Reason #2 why I think they have big Inquisitor plans. They're the only protagonist that can't die, and doesn't undergo some major change following the end of the game. Hawke can't die, but he/she can be forced to flee Kirkwall/disappear for a while. Inquisitor is just chillin' around waiting for something else to do.

QUESTIONS:

Things I've been wondering lately:

  • Do Dalish marry within the clan? Do Keepers marry? How does courtship work?
  • How bound do you think Solas is to his god-nature? If he's the "god of rebellion" is he somehow magically compelled to act rebelliously (as spirits/Cole are/is)? Or is it that his personality was rebellious and thus that persona was attached to him? Or somewhere in the middle? I guess this ties into the "what is Solas" question...
  • What age do Dalish get their Vallaslin?
  • For those that have read The Masked Empire:
    Spoiler
  • Was Solas aware during Uthenara? Is that how he speaks "English" with a modern Dalish accent? Is that how he knows about the Qunari and the Blight?
  • Do you think Solas undervalues the Wardens because he's possibly never experienced a blight first-hand?
  • For fun: If your Lavellan had three tarot cards, what three do they think they'd be (my third one is the Moon, can't decide on the others)r
  • For fun #2: What's your quizzie up to these days?

Also a heads up that I'm updating the playlist tonight (you can find the link in the OP). If anyone has any ideas on how to organize it let me know as it is getting quite long. Thanks!

Whoa, your inquisitor looks very dashing in the red ball uniform.   I'd totally romance her.

Aww thanks! :D  She had the smuggest face when she went after Floriane, it was adorable. She really seems to enjoy nailing a sucker to the wall.

My Lavellan got along swimmingly with everyone, but especially Cole, Dorian, and Leliana.  She started out bros with Sera but the two of them are fundamentally really different people, and I think they drift apart after the Well of Sorrows.  Cole I think might be the companion most likely to sympathize with Solas; he is a spirit of compassion after all.  But Dorian and Leliana...not so happy.  Much stabby, magey rage.

Bull and Solas were close-ish, they respected each other so I always get the feeling he'd want to mediate between the two but be torn. My Lavellan is a redhead after all. Cassandra also strikes me as an attempted peacemaker, she and Solas get along pretty well and there's no sign of betrayal from him... yet. Cole wants Lavellan to be happy, but in my own head at least, I find him opposed to her moving on. Vivienne is more than happy to take Lavellan under her wing, of course. They're actually pretty close. Well, as close as they can be. Sera... I'm not sure. She's more the gloating type. Still, she'd be more than happy to stick the baldy elfy full of arrows. Blackwall likes Lavellan, but he also got along well with Solas.

With Anders there was a clear betrayal, so it was easy to see where the cards fell. Since none of the companions know about Solas' true intentions my headcanons leave them more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I agree with the stabby mage rage. :D Stabby mage rage all around!

And if she is, does that change if Solas tears down the Veil and the fade and physical world merge >.> #seriousphilosophicalquestions

Things I've been wondering lately:
Do Dalish marry within the clan? Do Keepers marry? How does courtship work?

Keepers do marry. Mahariel, the Dalish PC in Origins, was the child of the former keeper, though his marriage wasn't sanctioned. I didn't take it that he wasn't allowed to marry, though, just that his parents didn't approve of that match. Zathrian was married and had children before... yeah.

Then there's Cammen and Gheyna. Lol, what a travesty. But it shows a bit of how courtship works- a hunter has to prove himself before he's allowed to take a mate, and the clan in general seems to get a say, though they don't seem to have matchmakers like the city elves. With the clans being so separate I imagine they do have informal matchmakers. I bet that once-a-decade meeting of clans (forget what it's called) is the happy hunting grounds.

How bound do you think Solas is to his god-nature? If he's the "god of rebellion" is he somehow magically compelled to act rebelliously (as spirits/Cole are/is)? Or is it that his personality was rebellious and thus that persona was attached to him? Or somewhere in the middle? I guess this ties into the "what is Solas" question...

He's big on autonomy, and it seems they're emphasizing that the gods are pretty "human"- very flawed.

What age do Dalish get their Vallaslin?

I think it's more when you prove yourself than an age thing.

Do you think Solas undervalues the Wardens because he's possibly never experienced a blight first-hand?

I think their plan to find and destroy the old gods before they can awaken hits way too close to home.

For fun: If your Lavellan had three tarot cards, what three do they think they'd be (my third one is the Moon, can't decide on the others)

The Star:

The Star represents a moment of renewed hope, inspiration and discovery. The turmoil of escape from the Devil depicted on the previous trump in the series (The Tower) is over, indicating calm after the storm. It is a breakthrough, a new opportunity to rise to higher state of consciousness. It is the first of 3 cards of increasing light, indicating we may be receiving greater clarity. A higher pathway is becoming visible. We may solve a mystery, discover secrets, or gain ideas in meditation.

I have a headcanon that my Lavellan goes to Cole for insight on the matter. He can see into people, and I think he can tell if two people could be happy together. She'd go to him like: should I be hurting this bad, and is it worth it?

And I pin Terrwyn to be around 26.

It probably goes prove your self as competent in whatever's your main job in camp a hunter has to bag game solo, a crafter has to make something without flaws etc and by doing that you become a candidate for the vallaslin ceremony. Only once your an adult can you officially couple up with someone.

I think there's a baby boom after clan gatherings.

1. Dalish can marry within the clan as implied by triggering Tamlen's romance flag as a female Dalish in Origins and by Gheyna and Camren (sp?). Its probably possible for them to marry into other clans too though. As far as I can tell a hunter has to have went out and got their first kill on their own to be considered an adult and then marry. Thats about as much as I know though haha.

2. Personally I think since Solas himself denies the existence of the Elven Gods as Gods he probably isn't a God and thus the 'nature' might be more tied to his past actions that we don't know a lot about. He likely isn't compelled to act in any way but rather the behaviors are attached onto these past actions.

3. I *think* its a coming of age/adulthood ceremony. If it is then hunters at least probably get them after they've done their first hunt although I cant remember if Camren had the markings or not.

-jumps to wardens question-

6. I think its more he finds them an unnecessary risk. They are at risk of falling to corruption from the false calling and I think thats why he's so worried/hostile to them. If they were not at risk he would probably want them as part of the inquisition

7. I'd probably go with some sort of stereotypical starting one that seems kind of elfy, and then a white halla for a good sort of card and the dark one would be a blighted halla of sorts.

8. Canon quizzie is hunting down a bald pyjama wearing elf. Second quizzie is probably looking for more quizzie things to do. If trouble isn't going to find her she's going to find trouble, much to Cullen and Josephine's annoyance. Third quizzie is probably letting Leliana teach her how to bard so she can play the game a bit better and have some fun muddling in orleasian politics since Josephine *insists* she meets nobles.
