Still with a touch of a smirk on her lips, Vivienne reached towards the bottle. With a flick of her wrist she sent it spinning, flashing past Varric, Cassandra, and The Iron Bull, before finally pointing towards a chair that had been drawn away from the others. Solas looked up from his book to find the entire table staring at him. The corners of Vivienne's mouth turned down. Solas met her eyes with a look so mild that Varric bit back a chuckle.
"How unfortunate," Vivienne finally said, her tone dripping with politeness. "It seems our little game has distracted you from your reading, Apostate." She reached towards the bottle, about to spin it again.
"Backing down from a challenge, Enchanter?" Solas's voice perfectly matched hers. "I did not think you capable." Vivienne's hand froze. Meeting Solas's gaze once more, she gave him a wintry smile.
"How rude of me, I had assumed that you were above engaging in silly games such as these." That mild look again, but there was something behind his eyes that Vivienne could not quite name.
"You are mistaken. I enjoy games, Enchanter. They are useful for more than simply entertainment. Would you not agree?" The room had gone completely silent. Cullen shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Solas waited, his face inscrutable. Vivienne's eyes narrowed, but then she smiled.
"On that, my dear, we are in agreement." She approached the elven mage's chair, her outfit's silk ribbons swaying in time with her step. Solas sat, cross-legged, watching her. Vivienne put one finger under his chin, tilting his head up, then bent and placed a slow, sensuous kiss on his lips. Straightening, she thought she saw the hint of a flush at his cheeks. Not so stoic, then. He raised an eyebrow at her look.
"It seems I was correct...Enchanter," he said, voice holding a hint of amusement. "You do not back down from a challenge."

Speaking of the older man thing...how old did everyone envision their Lavellan's?
I see mine as in her late 20's. The age difference didn't really dawn on me until recently tho...
I see my Lavellan (well, my warrior Lavellan) as being in her mid to late 30s. It's one heck of an age gap no matter how old we headcanon our Lavellans to be, though. XD
BTW, am I the only one who thinks Solas DOES look like he's 40ish? Or at least not in his 20s? lol

No, I think he's a nice looking older man. He could pass for someone who aged well into his 40s.

I don't think he looks like he's in his 20's. Maybe late 30s? I think it's the complete lack of facial hair and wrinkles. If you put hair on him (somewhere there's a faux-hawk ponytail model with him) he looks younger even when his face doesn't change.
I'm crap with figuring out ages anyway, so my opinion is pretty useless.

I think he looks a bit young for 40, but according to Lord Weekes he's supposed to be around there. aw yiss older men.
He already seemed to play a pretty good father for Cole, so I would say he'd do fine.
Spoiler
And if for some reason he dies during DLC, I am hoping there's enough ambiguity to at least speculate if Lavellan could have his child. It doesn't seem right that the ancient elves die out completely.
I don't think his kids would be like the ancient elves. I also suspect that even if they had sex (which some Inquisitors won't have), Solas might have been careful to use a bit of magic to prevent pregnancy--the Inquisitor has her duty, and he knows he's not sticking around. Why would he want to burden her? That said, I actually don't dislike the idea--I just find it unlikely, which is sad for those who might have wanted to keep a bit of Solas around other than his rotunda mural.
I did, mainly because it's a really intimate moment between the two- it's a beautiful scene. I see it as him freeing her spirit from the shackles of the past. I also like the interpretation of him "getting her naked" in a symbolic/spiritual sense. It just adds a lot, so I don't like to pass it up.
It's of course up to you and how you wish to roleplay your Lavellan . There are good reasons for both keeping and removing the vallaslin.
Spoiler
I've begun to wonder if it isn't Fen'harel anansal. Fen'Harel's blessing--that being freedom. If that's the case, then it's far more intimate than any of us suspected because it's not just a romantic gift, but also a romantic gift that only Solas/Fen'Harel could give. There may actually be no spell that can remove vallaslin. And I wondered since the Keeper must apply it if magic is also somehow involved with that tattoo--I'm sure that it is. Perhaps vallaslin actually does bind one to the will of the god it represents--and if the gods are emerging, removing it is probably not a bad idea at all. Even if it doesn't bind you, well... you're marked as a god's property. And Solas wants to release the gods into the world. Lavellan does not know this, but of course... that's part of the reason he offers her the choice. And I'm sure he understands she's had the marks for so long, and they are so ingrained in her culture, that no matter what they cause him to see, they likely mean something else to her.
Well, there's a precedent.
Spoiler
I think whatever his rationalization is, it's just that: a rationalization. He didn't consult Lavellan and thus can only make assumptions about what her feelings would be. I think the real reason he made the decision to break it off has very little to do with her and very much to do with what he wants. I love him to pieces, but I don't believe for a moment that he's breaking things off selflessly. Otherwise he'd make her hate him. That would be the easiest way to make sure she moves on. But instead he wants her to know that he loved her. He wants her to know that despite whatever he's going to do, that part of him was good. Making her hate him and removing that moral ambiguity would make her life so much easier, but despite all of his talk of walking his path alone and not involving his former friends...he still wants to to be understood. Which to me is terribly tragic.
Re Removal:
Spoiler
I felt like that by that point in the story, my Lavellan had lost a lot of her connection with the Dalish. She'd been surrounded by non-elves, dealing with human problems (well not really but seemingly human problems), befriending them and becoming more like them. She'd probably spent a lot of off-screen time with Solas learning about the "real" ancient elves, and the Temple of Mythal brought it all home for her. She loves her clan and her people, but she doesn't feel "Dalish" like she did when she first received the Vallaslin - she feels elven. That was my rationale for it anyway.
Plus yeah, way more intimate than a sex scene. Though I got a little weak in the knees when he calls Lavellan "perfect" if you keep them
Solas isn't really being selfish though, if you listen to what Cole says when Solas speaks through him later on. He's doing this because it's too dangerous to keep people he cares about close to him, and he knows it. We suspect what he's set out to do, but now that... well, you know... are involved, things may have changed and gotten even more dangerous. It's not that he sees Lavellan as incapable, but what he's up against... would she even stand a chance, at that point? He is pretty cruel about the breakup, but I think he doesn't comprehend at first how cruel he's being--he wants her to know how much he cares before he leaves. Maybe he wants to make her hate him, or maybe he wants her to realize that despite the breakup he still loves her deeply--so that she'll come to understand that he had to do something that was so important he had to give up their relationship even if it hurt them both terribly.
I don't know.
As for my Inquisitor, this first one was very much attuned to her Dalish heritage. She told Solas this was her first time being involved in "anything like this," so I'm assuming he's her first real love--I picture her being a bit of a scholarly hermit, who liked to hare off into the woods when she had a moment to spare. No one was particularly interested in courting her, or perhaps the clan had too few eligible bachelors. Because it seemed important to Solas, she allowed him to remove her vallaslin. Now she feels as if he's torn away her identity. She's feeling truly alone and deeply sad--there was no one else she connected to quite like she did Solas. She can go to Cole for comfort, or Mother Giselle if she tries hard to ignore the Chantry gibberish and mentally inserts her own Dalish gods, or simply takes the message without the Maker. Cassandra is her friend, and Varric, but they aren't people you talk about stuff like this with. And definitely not Sera or Iron Bull. Vivienne might understand, but she's cold and never liked Solas. So there's basically either a spirit, who doesn't fully understand her pain, or a priest of someone else's religion.
I picture her never fully trusting anyone enough to fall that deeply in love again. She'll start out just waiting for Solas to come back to her, and eventually she'll lose hope that he will, and simply focus on rebuilding her life. The Inquisition's most important members are already dispersing, and soon when the last Fade rifts are repaired, she will leave to go back to her clan, leaving the mantle of Inquisitor to someone else or disbanding the order entirely (she will not see herself as fit to lead while feeling despondent) and immersing herself deeply into her duty as Keeper's First. Part of her will always be pining for Solas, because she felt he promised to explain, and why would he go back on a promise? And yet, she'll eventually move on and, despite having serious trust issues, she may even marry and start her own family. I'd feel sorry for the man she married, though--she'll always compare him to Solas, and he will never measure up well.
Spoiler
Jeeze I hope they can be separated. Lavellan is not OK with flirting with Morrigan's mom. Gross.
I suspect the reason Mythal is around is because she was murdered. The other creators were probably trapped afterwards (and maybe as a result of her murder), and her spirit was out and about doing whatever it was doing until it found Flemeth. Or she was murdered while locked away, but her spirit escaped into the Fade and then she was able to work her way to Flemeth. Either way, I think the key is that she is "dead" and the other guys are not
Given Cole's dialogue, I'd say Solas is still very much himself.
Either way, it has given me interesting fodder for my speculation about who on Thedas Felassan's master was in TME.
I think we'll get at least one or two pieces of single player DLC, hopefully more depending on how well the game does. A full expansion may be too much to hope for, but I can dream. Either way, I really hope that when we do get single player DLC that it will have some romance content even if it's just teasing barks mixed in with some jealousy like in Mark of the Assassin and Legacy. There are so many romance options that probably won't be much, but the romance related bits in the DA 2 DLC are among my favorites in the whole game. I'd hate for that to be completely gone.
Considering how well the Citadel DLC went over with those of us who played ME3, particularly the romance content, I won't be surprised if there is an expansion that adds more romantic content along with a questline, etc. It was very fan-service-y, and yet I loved it for the most part.
But I'd be leery of expecting it to add anything at all for Solas, even if such a DLC is made. He appears to be very determined to stay gone. I just wish they'd have a DLC that allows him to rejoin my party, especially since I only got to have his shiny new tarot card for such a brief amount of time.
At least here where I live, pc games cost at least ten if not more, euro less than the same game on console. But have the benefit of mods. U_U
They must price things differently over in Europe than they do in the U.S. (and Canada? Australia?). Here, the PC version costs the same as the console version, unless you catch it on sale for digital download. It seems like people are succeeding at modding the game, at long last, but really, I don't think we're going to have a Skyrim-level number of mods available to us. There's really not too much to be jealous of since most of us are going to have the same content you do--and even though we can mod the game or use cheat programs, many won't.
I know, the chances are good but when it comes to EA I try not to get my hopes too far up.
I was so into the scene when I watched it the first time, I assumed it was just some really poorly animated jewelry. He's got some crazy clipping issues on my PC as it is. I like the helmet, but no one else in the game wears one remotely like it. Trying to follow the fashion choices in this game is like playing Where In Time Is Carmen San Diego? I guess it kinda, almost, doesn't make sense if...
Spoiler
Fen'harel actually possessed Felassen and doesn't want to be recognized at the Orlesian court, but if that were true I doubt he'd be so friendly with the servants.
I hope it gets fixed. I can live if it doesn't though.
Spoiler
Felassan was, to all evidence, an ancient elf. He was wearing vallaslin. I think we can infer from that that he was the slave of some ancient god or another. Could be Mythal, could be someone else. He was evidently a devotee of Fen'Harel, but not Fen'Harel as the Dalish know him--Fen'Harel as the god of rebels, as well as a trickster. You could say that since he's a follower of Fen'Harel, his master must have been Fen'Harel, who possessed him when he was slain in the Fade. I do not think that is correct; no one recognized him, even though I met several TME cast members throughougt the game. Furthermore, we repeatedly see Solas rail against slavery and other deprivations of freedom. He would not have employed a slave. So, Fen'Harel didn't possess Felassan's body, but my question is: was his master Mythal, or someone else who may be an elven god, or at that level, and also at large? I had thought he was going to compare Briala to his master, when I thought that master had to be Fen'Harel. Now I wonder if he was about to say 'Fen'Harel.'" Makes you wonder if that would be a favorable comparison in the unknown master's opinion, or not.
So, are there any news about the missing third personal quest for our favorite bald elf?
(Imagine if there was another cutscene! )
I thought that there simply wasn't one. At first I thought my game was glitched, because everyone else had one that triggered. Is that wrong? Is there confirmed to be one that is just buggy and doesn't trigger?
I always liked elves, but never cared much for Zevran and Fenris. Zevran just wasn't my type of character. Fenris I could have liked, but I felt his design was a bit too over the top. Going by his description, I was hoping for Fenris to be more of an ugly, disfigured looking elf rather than fairly handsome. If I ever play DA2 again though, I think I'll give his romance at least a play through.
Solas initially I liked just because I suspected that being locked to female elf only meant that there would be some sort of plot. I was assuming babies. I was wrong.
On the one hand, I don't think BioWare would make it about the babies. On the other, DLC may make that a possibility, and I'd be totally okay with it as long as it's a CHOICE, and not forced upon the player, much like the Old God Baby in DAO. At least one of my elf Inquisitors would definitely indulge in sexytimes with Solas even knowing it would result in definite pregnancy. Maybe both would, if it meant having some part of him to hold on to. Not sure. Haven't played Elf #2 yet. Also it isn't fair that guys get to have a kid with Morrigan, but ladies haven't had any chance at kids yet. Not everyone wants them, but the option? Oh yes, the option should be there.
Things I've been wondering lately:
Do Dalish marry within the clan? Do Keepers marry? How does courtship work?
How bound do you think Solas is to his god-nature? If he's the "god of rebellion" is he somehow magically compelled to act rebelliously (as spirits/Cole are/is)? Or is it that his personality was rebellious and thus that persona was attached to him? Or somewhere in the middle? I guess this ties into the "what is Solas" question...
What age do Dalish get their Vallaslin?
For those that have read The Masked Empire:
Spoiler
How does the remembering magic work (the kind that Lienne de Montsimmard uses) and does it have a name? That one mage-girl makes the sylvan remember that it was on fire once. What?! Can all mages do that? Does it happen anywhere else in DA?
Was Solas aware during Uthenara? Is that how he speaks "English" with a modern Dalish accent? Is that how he knows about the Qunari and the Blight?
Do you think Solas undervalues the Wardens because he's possibly never experienced a blight first-hand?
For fun: If your Lavellan had three tarot cards, what three do they think they'd be (my third one is the Moon, can't decide on the others)r
For fun #2: What's your quizzie up to these days?
Also a heads up that I'm updating the playlist tonight (you can find the link in the OP). If anyone has any ideas on how to organize it let me know as it is getting quite long. Thanks!
Dalish do marry, even within the same clan. Cammen and Gheyna were clanmates and also wanted to marry, and you could have been Tamlen's implied lover. I suppose it's like marrying a cousin, though. It may not be particularly encouraged--you'd probably be encouraged to wait and find someone at the Arlathvhen to court, maybe even from a distance via letters etc.
I don't believe Solas is bound to be rebellious at all. I think the ideals that are most important to him are freedom and understanding. He'd probably be quite happy with a functional democracy, but he's jaded and expects all forms of government and organizations to eventually corrupt and falter.
As for vallaslin, it's a coming-of-age thing. Some get it very young (16 or younger), some wait until later. You get it when you think you can handle the pain, basically, and then you are considered a full adult. There may be other rites of passage, depending upon the clan. Keeper's First might need to remember a specific tale word-for-word, or learn a certain spell. Hunters need to bring back certain game from a solo hunt. Or maybe kill a human. Etc. Likely depends on the clan.
Don't know the name of that magic...
Solas seems to have been aware while he slept. Unsure if it were truly uthenera. He mentions in his final romance scene that Lavellan was the first one who'd attracted his attention from the Fade. The phrasing is careful so that the meaning could also be that he previously found the Fade more interesting than romance, but the implied meaning is that he noticed her when he was still wandering the Fade--something he may intend for her to realize whenever it's revealed who he is. I'm sure he's learned lots of things in the Fade. Even if it is uthenera, the elves who entered it were guides and teachers for other elves, and were capable of watching the real world from the Fade. But it seems he was still surprised by what he woke up to, so perhaps his connection to reality faded over time, or his interest, or what he could observe through the Fade was simply too unclear.
Don't know about tarot cards...
As for my Inquisitor, her name Uth'Shiral is elven for "Eternal journey." She's going to go dragon hunting, and then, as the Inquisition disperses, she will return to her clan. It may take years; I imagine every night she goes to stare at the bridge, hoping Solas comes back this time, too. And then she goes to visit his room, before she goes back to her quarters to retire. She becomes less and less close with the Inquisition members other than Varric and Cole, and finally one day everyone wakes up and they can't find her. She leaves when the last of her friends do, to return to the Dales and her people. And perhaps, in time, assuming Solas doesn't ever return to her, she may even take the vallaslin again, explaining that its removal was an ill-considered mistake--regardless of what it means to Solas, it means something else to her clan. Even if they are wrong, it's part of who she is.
If she never meets Solas again, she may eventually relent to the pressure of her clan to find a nice elven man and marry, but she will more than likely be too guarded after Solas's actions to ever truly love him.
They literally have everything needed for a hate ship... I... I need more of this in my life...

Their banter is the best. They get under each other's skin so much and yet they are always unfailingly polite.
Ehhh, Solas and Vivienne? Don't get me wrong, I actually like Vivienne. This is not "ZOMG JEALOUSY" speaking. But, she has her own business to attend to, with the Snow White quest and all. She may be attracted to him in an odd way, too, but I think Solas could only ever fall in love with an elf. A modern elf. Specifically Lavellan. Why only a female, I don't know, other than "he's straight." As for Lavellan, well, there were a few remarks made by Cole and Solas both that suggest Lavellan is somehow remarkable even before acquiring the mark on her hand. What that means is unclear.
Kind of wondering whether my suspicion we'll eventually get an OGB-type choice with Solas in a future DLC might pan out.
I also wonder if it wasn't that scene after Haven was destroyed where the wolves guide you forward to where the Inquisition has camped. The first time I went through that level I thought I was going to be attacked, on my second run after knowing what Solas is I had to wonder if he wasn't using some method to guide them to safety. As how else would they have found the Inquisition in that mess of a blizzard?

I don't necessarily ship them in the same way that I ship Solas and Lavellan. I rivalship them. I can't see them 'falling in love', but I can see them having a relationship that's full of tension, both sexual and otherwise.

His actual facial features look pretty young, but his eyes always look so sad. IMO that's what makes him look older than late 20s-30s. He always looks melancholy or grim, unless someone manages to coax a smile out of him.

I may have to adopt this as my new headcanon. And write some fanfiction for it.
