Well, there are some facts that can prove it, if you look from a certain point of view (e.i when Cole murmurs something about "They should have been born together but instead were binded by the light" you can translate if like they were together at some point of time but maybe then Lavellan was killed and now they are together and it's her mark which is the "light"?...).

Yeap this also :)

And "It was cruel to put it in a child.  It hurt her."  WTF is that all about if not some super secret thing?

For some reason that made me think about Andraste, but it could also be an OGB situation. Flemeth's the one who taught Morrigan that ritual.

Well, in that case, Solas would be just a shemlen to him as well, but he takes Solas' advice to go elsewhere and shows a grudging respect at the end of that conversation?  And wasn't he the leader of the guardians?  So why would they show up without him?

I don't have a problem with him not showing up, honestly, but I am glad that some of the other guardians do.

If he does show up, let me put it this way:  I haven't encountered him.  So if he's at Skyhold, I don't know where he's hiding.

That was the conclusion I came to, but the "her" threw me off since it was a boy child and a male Old God.  I guess the "her" was Morrigan if that's what he's talking about, though I can't see how it hurt Morrigan.

Can he only love her because the anchor given to her by the orb (his artifact, no less)? Wouldn't he realize that the full extent of her being "special" was essentially his doing and it was him changing her existence that makes her unique? It makes the relationship kind of questionable if her being unique is dependent on her having the anchor.

Perhaps the mark was only what drew his attention enough for him to get past his expectations. But let's face it, he's not going to just fall for any normal elf. That would be too trite, to my taste anyway. The mark makes her compatible with him in a way that a mundane could never be.

I don't think it was obvious that he said that ironically. Abelas is critical but I think he realizes that Solas is different than Lavellan there.

He emphasizes "yes, elvhen.. such as I" in a definite tone. I interpret it to mean, "I'm not really elvhen, but let's go with that." edit: Or perhaps he's recruiting a lieutenant. I'd be happy to see that!

I meant that there was another OGB situation at some point in the past, perhaps Andraste? I dunno, I really have no idea what Cole means and am intrigued, too.

I don't know why but I always liked this silly headcanon of mine that Abelas became a baker at Skyhold without losing his super-serious attitude. It makes no sense and that's why it amuses me... or maybe it's the fact that he's still wearing his armor in that headcanon just topped with an aphron.

And he makes loaves of bread that taste like despair.

Sounds like somebody who has merged with a spirit of rebellion...

If youre talking Anders

Then the parallel would be that Anders needs help to be bigger then himself (he needs the spirit, he needs Hawke). He is a man who wants to affect the big big picture with his ideals.

Solas needs help to see the smaller picture. He doesnt understand how people live, from the modern elves to the topside dwarves. He marvels at it, but in the end does not understand it. Everything could be so much more then it is in his eyes. So he needs a reason to care about individuals and not just the ideals he sees behind people's actions.

If youre not talking Anders then have a free comparaison :)

I'm going to catch up with the thread next week, but I've just finished the Masked Empire, so I'm burning.

Spoiler

Aaand my human playthrough got results, aka wonderful information about Solas:

Spoiler

And in my human playthrough, I sided with the Templars, which gave me an amazing sideline(2 great voiced quests so far) about Calpernia. I heartily recommend this at least once. Really, with the main campaign being too short, it would make great sense if they didn't make us choose, but instead gave us both quests, so the Inquisition could try and incorporate templars AND mages.

Yes, exactly.  As I said before, I believe that the elvhen were elves that were merged with spirits.  My theory is that Solas became Fen'Harel when he merged with a spirit of rebellion.  And, like Anders and Cole and even Wynne, his environment as well as his human (elven) nature shapes who and what he becomes.

But only because he literally changed her existence to be that way. It smacks too much of an abusive relationship - shaping someone to be what you want them to be - for me. So I sincerely hope that's not the case.

The subtitles have elvhen in quotes when Abelas says it but not when Solas does. Abelas assumes Solas is not an ancient elf and Solas kind of goes, "you are wrong" at him.

He didn't do anything to her, though- it's his power, but she took it on her own and now it's part of her, according to the Divine. To me that links them, but I don't see how that's abusive.

Possibly, yes. He's trying to convince him that not all of the old Arlathan is gone, after all.

Quick question on the side.

You guys know the picture of the Inquisitor with the companions depicting the Last Supper painting of Jesus and the disciples.

My churchy knowledge is limited but Solas has to be the one sitting in Judas place. Cause easy metaphors are easy...

Am I wrong ?

Not deliberately but if the only thing he finds attractive about her is the way his power changed her? Yeah, that comes a little too close to grooming someone to be what you want for me.

You are not. He's in the Judas position. There's an analysis that has Cole as Judas but Cole is standing behind Solas, the way Peter stands behind Judas.

Well, I think if this was the case, he wouldn't grant so much approval when she says that basically she's the same person she was before she got the mark.

Could someone who has finished the game tell me if Abelas or any of his guardians show up at Skyhold?

I can see Lavellan turning to him to satiate her lust for... ancient elven lore after Solas leaves.  I know it's heresy in this thread, but I do find him physically more attractive than Solas.  (And I'll show myself out.)

My BF pointed out after he completed it that there are elves wandering around in Ancient Elf armor with a different build from the other elves, so it's entirely possible. :P

There's a bit about Solas' role in a Last Supper position context in the OP :)

I'm wondering if the whole "we warred against ourselves" statement Abelas was in reference to the war between the Elven Pantheon and the Forgotten Ones? Solas mentions after the Well of Sorrows that no group has ever willingly given up power once they've gained it, maybe that was the case in Arthalan where the Pantheon turned from being a benevolent group of individuals with godlike power to being tyrants who fought amongst themselves.
