I've got pictures but not of that scene. lol

Reminds me, I was talking to Cullen and one of my options in a conversation I took a shot of was "I met a god once." First thought was "Does she know?!"

It's funny, I've come to actually enoy the American voice when roleplaying an ex-City Elf Dalish. The game doesn't give you a lot on that front when it comes to roleplay, but it's a great way to get the City Elf in even if they don't have the background. Solas Romance of course.

Also, if anyone's wondering, the way to cross-class armor is by crafting it with Silverite. Silverite will remove most clas restritions (but won't allow non-Dalish to wear Dalish armor. Sorry, Sera. )

You know what? I didn't think I'd ever want to use the American accent for an elf, but because of your reasoning behind it... I think I'm gonna roll another Lavellan (my third total lol) and use the American accent this time. XD

What?  He said that about the Qunari?  That's a huge reveal!  Ok, I'm definitely going to need to continue my Qunari/getSolasreallyangry playthrough.

Yeah I think Merrill might just ****** Solas off.  She gives so much weight to myth and holds too tightly to her culture.  She's probably exactly what Solas does not like about modern elves.

I don't think that would necessarily be the case. Merrill is Dalish, so she clearly views the world through an elven perspective, but she's also willing to acknowledge that spirits are more multifaceted and complicated than simply being "dangerous spirits", and she doesn't hold to the view that blood magic is inherently evil, either (despite how the Dalish don't traditionally use magic that involves spirits, since they view all spirits as dangerous - per WoT). I think her inquisitive nature could lead to a similar relationship (in terms of friendship) that Solas can have with a Lavellan who respects and loves the People but also wants to know more about the world and the Beyond - the latter of which he thinks enough of the Dalish don't do.

So, which characters are "safe" to flirt with and to what certain point to not block Solas's romance?  My new Lavellan is flirting with everyone- Cassandra, Blackwall, Sera, Solas, Vivienne, and Cullen so far (and she'll continue as more options open up).  I'll stop once Solas's romance starts at Skyhold, but I'm roleplaying a playful/flirty person- I just don't want to mess up his romance though :P

Flirt away until you get an option of a heart and a broken heart.

You are right.  I agree and retract my statement.  They would probably bond over the extreme lengths both are willing to go through to get what they want.

Yeah adding in Bull's couple comments about how they don't know what happened to the Kossith and Solas mentioning that Qunari are "savages" I'm wondering if there is a lot more to them. At first I thought Solas was just being a jerk but I wonder if he knows something about what really happened.

I hope we start getting more answers soon. :crying:

That's a very good point. Both of them think blood magic isn't simply evil. Both of them view spirits as complex beings. Both of them are willing to risk their lives for the People. I think she would love to uncover the secrets of the past, and better understand where the People came from. It's possible she would be disappointed about how vallaslin were used in Arlathan, or she might simply view it as having little to do with Dalish vallaslin (which is a view that I hold myself, one that is also shared by my Lavellan Inquisitor).

Oh, yes! Solas tells Lavellan that all the elves were immortal, all of their people had magic, back in the days of Arlathan. I'm reminded of the longing in Merrill's voice when she says, "The stories tell us that all elvhen once had the gift; but like so many things, it was lost..." They would get along swimmingly. She's so eager to recover the past, and he's... well, himself.

My favorite part about Fenris is that if he registers another character as a threat, he will not let up on them... ever. He has an intrinsic need to defend those important to him and Solas, by virtue of being a mage and an apostate, immediately lands himself in the danger category. Given his behavior in 2, it's actually fair to say that everything Bull/Dorian/Vivienne notice as being off with Solas, he would also. The difference is that where most of the characters in Inquisition are content to live and let live, Fenris wouldn't be. It'd be interesting to see, actually, because there is no character in Inquisition who actively puts Solas on the defensive.

In terms of characters Fenris has most in common with, the irony is that I'd go with Dorian before Solas. Fenris has internalized Tevinter values in a way which would leave Solas appalled. Like Zevran and Sera, Fenris is in the City Elf category. He's not interested in recovering elven history or the past. Solas is too much like Merril. (That comparison would irk Solas so much.) I think Solas would be angry at how his culture has been perverted (the vallaslin) and pity Fenris (the nail in teh coffin of that relationship, never pity Fenris). He'd want to help him recover his purpose (similarly to his discussion with Sera) and possibly be fascinated by the magics used that allow Fenris to interact with the Fade in the way that he does.

Speaking of Merril, I'd love to see her and Solas together at the same time. Same, ironically, with Cole, Solas, and Anders just to see what would happen.

Bless this post. Spot on, I think.

(Especially about the pity. NEVAAAR WITH THE PITY.)

I want someone to paste Weekes face on Solas' in the breakup scene where she shoves him and yells "Tell my I was some casual dalliance so I can call you a coldhearted SoB and move on!!"

SOMEBODY DO THIIIIIIIIIS.

This is something I thought about too, I would have loved for him to meet Anders...

It would be an interesting meeting, because on one hand Anders corrupted Justice, but on the other it was a mutual joining. So would Solas be pissed because of the corruption? Somewhat approving that Anders tried to help Justice stay in the world?

Very true.  Never pity Fenris.  The more I consider this the more I realize that Fenris is pretty much the exact embodiment of Solas' worst nightmare.  He is/was a slave.  Cares nothing about the elvhen heritage.  Is a perversion of magic and elvhen relics.  (Was the method that Danarius used at all connected to ancient Elvhen practices?  Since so much of Tevinter is.)  But yeah still I think that they might reach a common ground since both of them have a surprisingly strong anti-establishment/rebellious side.

Yeah I think Merrill might just ****** Solas off.  She gives so much weight to myth and holds too tightly to her culture.  She's probably exactly what Solas does not like about modern elves.

Except: Merril believes that demons are just spirits and that spirits can be friendly, therefore they are worth dealing with as opposed to Fenris who goes "Demons? NO!". She engages in blood magic safely and is not controlled by it, exactly in the way Solas suggests blood magic can and should be used in the early stages of the game. She is willing to consider controversial magical solutions in an effort to recover the past and succeeds at it when she rebuilds the eluvian. She would be intrigued by his journies into the Fade instead of repulsed by them. She wants to recover the lost history of her peope and while her pride might initially drive him away, he would come back. For both Solas and Merril, their pride is their fatal flaw. They're both willing to do anything necessary to restore what was lost. The only difference between the two is how they're presented in both games and who challenges their perspectives. Merril is interested in helping her people and the City Elves, just like Solas. Plus, she's actually pretty open minded with the minor flaw of "the Dalish are right and everyone else is wrong" but really, who does that sound like? :P

Once they got past the initial Dalish eww and "my way is the right way", they'd get along swimmingly. All Solas would have to do is prove he had information worth listening to that would help the Dalish recover what they lost.

I'm inclined to say that Fenris and Solas would never bond without help from Hawke and Varric. Even then, Fenris would only tolerate him like he does Anders and Merril. This is because there's no reason for Fenris to attempt friendship and the very nature of the way Solas approaches other characters would drive him off. The same is true for Solas, the very nature of what Fenris is would drive him off. Once his initial attempts at course correction failed, he might write Fenris off as a lost cause the way he does the rest of the elves. However, the fact that Sera would probably eventually bond with Fenris over their dislike of him would be galling. :P Those two and Zevran, without a doubt, would bond.

After finally completing the Solas romance arc, I had to do something...I'm no artist, so I wrote a letter (sort of spoiler-y):

In Another Life

In another life, I would have prayed to Dirthamen, Keeper of Secrets, to reveal where my Heart had hidden, to Andruil to grant me swiftness that I might soon be at his side, and, should Falon’Din meet him first, to turn him away and guide his steps back toward me. But if there ever were gods, they do not listen, as I did not listen.

You sought to free me, but did you not understand that removing my vallaslin only bound me closer to you, as surely as any geas? My clansmen see my face, now a mirror of your own, and turn away. I have not even the comfort of dreams, though I sleep in the hollow your body made in our bed.

You told me to harden my heart to a cutting edge. How can I, when I still burn unquenchable as veil-fire? Mythal did not speak of this price, this sorrow.

Come to me soon, Vhenan. I would tear open the heavens again if I knew I would find you on the other side.

-A letter found in the secret compartment of the desk of Inquisitor Lavellan

With all of this talk over who would and who would not get along with Solas, I feel compelled to point out that we are forgetting something.  Solas talks to everybody and has this insane ability to make all of the other companions respect him to some degree.  The man is so smooth.  >_>

Like with most of the companions even the ones he starts out arguing with, they eventually calm down and speak rationally.  Even Sera relents to his charm a bit.  Except for Vivienne, of course.  But she's so condescending to everyone I feel like that is simply her default manner and should not be taken seriously.

I think, and you may not want to believe me should I lead you astray, but I am pretty certain you can flirt with any character without losing Solas's romance so long as that character itself does not have an early lock-in or "monogamy" requirement. Cullen, for example, will ask you to leave anyone else if you try to get with him later on in the game. Likewise, if you flirt with him pretty far into Skyhold (NOT just the beginning flirts, but after his companion quests, the beginning ones I did just fine) he'll lock you in with him and therefore make you unavailable for Solas. Blackwall does the same sort of thing, he locks in early on with only a few flirts, I'm guessing so the romance could already be going on pretty well before his companion quest due to how that whole thing goes with lying from LIs again :P But Dorian, or Iron Bull, or such I've been able to flirt with without losing Solas. I'm not sure about flirts with "unavailable" characters but I'm sure flirting with Cassandra or Scout Harding wouldn't mess you up either since you can't progress into a romance with them.

Nah, Merril also represents for Solas everything that's wrong with the current Dalish culture. With Lavellan around, he'd never go for her. She'd view Solas as too friendy with spirits, much in the same way she views Anders. Those two are kindred, they even fill the same character slot in the lineup, but the very things that would draw them to each other would also drive them apart.
