Didn't he also write Thane in ME2?

I'm not sure about Thane.  Mordin, Garrus..um...someone will know...who else.

And of course he had a hand in Tuchanka and Rannoch, it's probably safe to say that if it breaks your soul then it was written by Weekes..

Nah, Thane was written by Chris L'Etoile in ME2 (bless him) and then by Chris Helper in ME3.

I only know because I whined a lot about how his romance went in ME3. I was so happy to get to romance Solas, and I still am and much more so than any other romance I've played through in any of their games, but I wish one of my characters could end up with a happy ending!! "Sten", Sebastian, Thane, Solas. I might be a masochist.

Oh, Thane.  That bastard would have broken my heart, but a certain turian got there first.  Thank the Maker.  At least, Thane gave us fair warning on exactly why that was going to hurt.  I'm looking at you, Solas.  >_>

Solas does try to warn you off the romance.  Granted, it's a bit half-assed, but every Dragon Age companion who has a particularly painful romance ending comes with warning flags.  Morrigan tries to break up with the Warden upon FEELINGS.  Anders spends three years listing all the reasons why it's a bad idea.  Izzy tries to warn off Hawke after they sleep together.  Hell, it even gets brought up in Alistair's romance by Wynne.

So when Solas was all like, "This could lead to trouble," my thought process basically went:  "Oh no.  Not this again.  ....to hell with it, here we go on the heartbreak train."

I'm a sucker for punishment, like that kicked puppy Blackwall mentions who can't stay away.  Bring on the feels, Weekes!  I will feed you fan tears!

Is it weird that I was actually looking forward to his inevitable death, but, like, it being beautiful and emotional and deep? My Lavellan definitely cared more about Solas dumping her than my Shepherd was allowed to care about Thane dying. I got a bit worried hearing Solas be reluctant, but then he'd kiss and it seemed like everything he just said was a poorly done bluff I could break through if I just taught him to trust. But I also know that usually whatever someone says is gonna happen seems to happen to me. Oh well, worth it!

This is very true.  But I can't even remember a romance that did not start with "maybe we shouldn't".  After all you can run away with Alistair or become his mistress (no, thank you.  but it's an option.) or hell become the darn Queen of Fereldan.  You can even run off to la-la Fade magic happy land with Morrigan and your mutant-definitely-not-evil baby.  True, Anders does absolutely wreck your heart and laugh at the ashes that rest in your hollow chest, but you can protect him and run away together (if you're a monster.  jk)

So yeah I was like, "Shh, Solas.  It will all work out... shh and slip me a bit more of that fade-tongue."

However, this is the most fairy-tale romance I have ever seen in a game.  Like it is literally a fairy tale complete with sadness and tears and heartbreak.  And it could have been terrible.  It could have been cliche and stupid, but Weeks is apparently a damn genius.  I'm so happy-sad-heartbroken-ecstatic over this whole mess.  I cannot wait to see what they do next.  I love everything about this.

Here's hoping that the ending in store for us isn't something out of a Greek tragedy though. There's certain series where I guard my expectations for what is going to happen, as you know from the get go that the ending will be at best hurtful and at worst soul wrenching. Berserk, for however long it's going to take to finish, is one such series where you know from the very first chapter that there is no happy ending at the end of the road Gutz and his band are walking. Not when the road itself is slathered in tragedy and the bodies of the fallen. Not when the very concept behind the series is fighting against the inevitable, and if it is even possible.

Here... I'm hoping they at least give us the chance for an ambiguous ending where headcanons can take over for the rest. A happy ending would be preferred, perhaps you'd even need to work for it, but at this point I'll settle for something that WON'T make me start sobbing into a cup for Overlord Weekes.

I'm sure I have a few more fan tears to offer him if he would not mind continuing the story.  Even if it ends with complete and utter tradgedy I'll play through it.  Which is weird since I could never part with my past pcs.  I always did the dark ritual so we could all live.  But if the story demanded the Inquisitor's death for a perfect ending with Solas.  I would not question it.

The story is just so good.  Like I care less for the state of Thedas and just want to see where this story with Solas can go.

After finally completing the Solas romance arc, I had to do something...I'm no artist, so I wrote a letter (sort of spoiler-y):

In Another Life

In another life, I would have prayed to Dirthamen, Keeper of Secrets, to reveal where my Heart had hidden, to Andruil to grant me swiftness that I might soon be at his side, and, should Falon’Din meet him first, to turn him away and guide his steps back toward me. But if there ever were gods, they do not listen, as I did not listen.

You sought to free me, but did you not understand that removing my vallaslin only bound me closer to you, as surely as any geas? My clansmen see my face, now a mirror of your own, and turn away. I have not even the comfort of dreams, though I sleep in the hollow your body made in our bed.

You told me to harden my heart to a cutting edge. How can I, when I still burn unquenchable as veil-fire? Mythal did not speak of this price, this sorrow.

Come to me soon, Vhenan. I would tear open the heavens again if I knew I would find you on the other side.

-A letter found in the secret compartment of the desk of Inquisitor Lavellan

This made me cry. :(  So beautiful.  Gah!  I keep making new DAI characters, but I don't have the heart to play any of them.  I've decided to move back into some mindless Warcraft, to forget about all the feels. :P

*Edit.  I forgot to quote the message. >_>

At this point, the bigger twist would be this romance having a somewhat happy ending. So I hope they're willing to give us another twist later on. A happy twist, for once.

Everytime I think I'm over it.  I'm not.  I have never relied so heavily on support as I have with Solas. It does help to playthrough again with him though.  Like bringing him everywhere and listening to that soothing voice tell you about things.  *sigh*  I'm not over it.  Dammit.

Though sometimes I feel like punching Solas in certain places.  "Really? Solas, you have nothing to say about the Dead Hand area?!  There's some freaky elvhen stuff going on here and I know you are silently judging me!"

Definitely not over it. I'll just be going about my day and all of a sudden the torn look his face and my broken Lavellan will pop into my head. It almost feels as if I myself have been dumped, which doesn't lead to having a good day : (

I am prepared for anything, surprisingly. As long as they don't suddenly make Solas into a standard villain, its all good.

But I would really love for the chance to convince him that the Dalish and City Elves are worthy of being his people. I want all the elves to unite so we can become the masterrace make a new future. Do it right this time.

I'm glad that I'm seeing other people, not just Solasmancers, wanting to continue with this Solas story with their Inquisitors in a DLC (whether out of curiosity or some kind of revenge, lol).  This is promising for us :)

At least Morrigan warned us she'd leave.  Solas just peaced out!  This really has a lot of potential and I want it to go somewhere!!!!

Yeah I do not want an ambiguous ending.  But the story does seem to be heading for misery and tragedy.  While that would destroy me, I could see myself loving it.  As long as it fits the dialogue and story.  For all of my love of fluff, I cannot justify a happy ending between them.  Though I would be more than willing to accept one.

"Oh look David! They actually thought we were going to pull the rug out from under them again! This is too much fun! *sips cup of tears*"

I rag on him a bit, but I adore Mr. Weekes for his writing. I would love for the twist to be that a happy ending is indeed possible, as many of us probably wouldn't see it coming after that ending and break up.

I'd prefer something more definitive as well, but at this point I'll take whatever I'm given. I could see a potentially happy ending for them, but only with a LOT of ground work and circumstances going in Lavellan's favor. At this point I'm just hoping that if it does turn for tragedy, which I'm guarding myself for, it's done well - and since this is Mr. Weekes we're talking about it definitely will be.

Ya know, as far as romances go in these games; I really feel like because the Hero of the story is dealing with such completely insane, dangerous, world-shaking events -- a Happy-Ever-After would in some ways feel unrealistic.  I think the easiest thing in the world would be for the writers to not take us on these heart-wrenching journeys.  Which goes hand in hand with why these characters, and moments end up affecting us so much.

Thane hurt.  A lot.  Anders's betrayal suuuuuucked (I just can't kill him even though he did a monstrous thing).  Shepard can have a happy ending in a way

Spoiler
I think the closest thing a DA protagonist gets to a happy ending is happy for a time.

I don't think I really had a point.  Was more just writing down some reflections I was having.

Wh-what are you talking about?  Shepard pulled herself out of the rubble and raised orphans with Garrus on Tuchanka.  Shh... I need this.  This happened.  Shepard didn't die twice.  She would never do that to Garrus.

And Grunt comes and visits every month with a new battle scar to proudly show his Battle Mother/Master and the children, knowing that each time he comes home there will be a new dinosaur toy waiting for him in his room....  :(

What's bad is that I'm often the type to hurt my characters and enjoy how my readers suffer. Now I'm on the other end and...well..dear high school friends, I'm sorry for what I did to Sam :(

What I fear the most is the fact that we have absolutely no idea what kind of ending they can pull on us. We knew that something was up with Anders. We knew that Thane would bite the dust eventually. We knew that Morrigan just had to do her thing. But we don't know what they could give us as the resolution for Solas' romance in a DLC.

Solas dies: Could happen, if he is one giant unlucky egg, but would hopefully involve Lavellan staying by his side.
Lavellan dies: Protects him or gets killed by him, I could see either becoming true.
Solas flees yet again: Never say never.
Lavellan has to fight him and seal him away: Also possible.

Ugh. This huuuurts. This will hurt, right? :(
