I think Solas is the mage that every one in the Circle, the Templars and the Chantry keep telling everyone is impossible to exist and yet he does! He is calm and gifted, has had freedom but is not corrupted and as learned more about the fade then most. Aware of the dangers and yet finds joy in the fade instead of fear. I think he is going to throw them all for a major theological and philosophical loop. I doubt he is perfect and it sounds like he will run into issues with his own ideology (naivety) and stubbornness. I think Cass and Cullen and even Iron Bull, despite the disagreements about the Qun, (A Varric/Solas gang up on poor Iron Bull  - anyone!) will find him intriguing, baffling and yet a challenge by simply and quietly living his life. I also think as long as they are respectful he will return that which is why I think he doesn't get along with Vivianne. I suspect she will resort to the game and the cutting remarks to make her point and he will not have anything to do with that. Hence the close minded remarks towards her. 

 

More than learning he is a LI which would make me happy, no doubt, I want to hear his voice and how he expresses himself. I think hearing his actor bring him to life will really solidify his personality and encourage more fiction! I really love that they have included a character with introverted tendencies. This most of all, I look forward to as a fellow introvert. 

 

Oh, and of course, *Hugs* just to keep the love going.

Solas speculation: more fuel for unfounded discussion.

 

Do you think Solas will be more focused on what he learns about magic and the fade from his dreaming, or will he be more of a renaissance man (interested in everything)?

 

I could see either view point.  Solas, as a mage and an explorer of the fade may simply be focused on those aspects of what he learns because that is what interests him.  On the other hand, since the fade tends to reflect strong emotions he may well have been exposed to music, plays and works of literature that evoked a strong emotional response from those who listened/watched/read.  Eureka moments (think Galileo, da Vinci, Einstein) should also have left strong impressions. This opens a whole array of possibilities for his character development.

I think the same, I think his mere presence in the Inquisition is going to cause some major ripples and the poor guy is probably going to get heaped with unwanted attentions, but man...if he spearheaded a reformation....

I sort of get the feeling for him that the history he learns is the part that he'd consider study. The rest is sort of...how he lives? It's like breathing and moving. It is him, as opposed to being a study at that point. That's just my conjecture, though. Based more off of life experiences than anything from the forums or developers or anything like that.

 

I can see Solas' interactions with the fade as being part of him, as opposed to something he merely studies.  But, I can also see him diving into them like an avid researcher and dissecting every last tidbit of information to test each hypothesis.  Again, two dichotomous possibilities with fascinating implications for his character.   

 

Solas will find a brilliant unimaginable light, smile delightedly, and move in for a closer look.

This is the quote that got me thinking about the renaissance man angle.  The sheer delight in learning something new and the determination to study everything could create a lovely complexity to his character.  

 

Inquisitor: "What is that you are humming, Solas?"  

 

Solas: "The prelude to "Uth Shiral", an ancient Opera about the search for knowledge."  

 

Inquisitor: incredulous "You found that in the fade? It's so beautiful."

 

Solas: "You shouldn't let your assumptions limit what you see."

 

Inquisitor:  thoughtful "I see your point."

I don't know why some people are so pessimistic about Solas being an LI though. I mean, sure, would suck to get my hopes up and have them crushed, but I just have this hunch he will be. and my hunches for LIs before have usually been right.

 

I also reckon there will be more than six, since a dev said that there would be more than other DA games, and since DA2 had 5, i dunno, I just don't think theyd make that point unless it was quite a few more than 5.

 

Anyway, back to the mass-hugging and Solas admiring
