I actually rolled a fem human first and I swear to Andraste I rerolled right after that encounter.  It was a rough first playthrough.  Full of giggling and then drowning in tears.

 

I can't even...I mean...it even effs with my brain to play a female character(I'm a trans guy, just starting transition, so playing as a girl can be kind of o.o for me), but like...Solas....I just want to play like female elf mage after female elf mage and eff the consequences. Solas' voice is just heaven.

How much does his dialogue change if you're a mage?  I played with rogue Lavellan.

This is what I'm sort of hoping for in a DLC. (spoilered for spoilers, just in case.) And it's rambling, sorry for that.

In the DLC, Solas will return. I'm not sure in what context, if he returns to the group, or he's just there. Maybe as antagonist, maybe not. He will reveal himself to Lavellan (or any Inquisitor) as his true identity, Fen'harel. Except it will be more meaningful to an elven Inquisitor, as that's one of their gods. And even more so to a romanced Lavellan. Because she'll realize that she was in love with one of her elven deities, and he in turn was actually in love with her. Now speaking from her viewpoint, he will reveal himself, and explain to her why he had to leave, but he will still be very much in love with her. She'll understand why they can't be together now, rather than just this pompous elf just breaking her heart like he did in the main game. And there will be an option for them to have a romantic scene where they actually do the deed! Like everyone else! lol (You can choose to do it or not do it.) Anyways, she'll realize that he'll always love her, no matter what, through the ages, and she'll always be able to feel him around her in spirit, yada yada. And they part again, but on better terms.

The only difference I recall is if you're a mage he talks about your focus instead of how graceful you are and makes a comment about how he'd like to see it dominated. I haven't made it far enough on a rogue Lavellan to see if there are any other differences. Most of what he says isn't mage specific.

You track down Solas and manage to mess up his plans to bring the veil down by destroying whatever new magical artifact/power source he was trying to use. Now his only option is forcing you to use the mark (if you drank from the well) or force-ably extract the mark from you which would kill you (if you didn't drank from the well). Now he has to choose between his greater plan and his unwillingness to use/kill Lavellan. What would you do Solas?

My first was a rogue, and my new one is a rogue. I just never could get into playing warriors, lol. Except two handed in DA2, which I did a couple playthroughs of. That's a fun one.

Dunno, my first playthrough was a male rogue elf and he didn't really talk to Solas much.

I don't actually think Solas could sacrifice someone he knows directly. I think he could fight against them, but when it came down to life or death, the sense I get is he'd back off.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Solas is cold blooded. I do think there's a limit to how far he's willing to go. Otherwise he would have killed the Inquisitor in the first place to get his anchor back, before he had any connection to them.

I think Solas would be willing to sacrifice their relationship, but I don't think he'd physically harm her. So I could see him forcing her to help him (against her will), but I can't see him killing/ sacrificing her.

 

And I don't think most Lavellans would agree to do the do with someone who sacrificed them for his own selfish goals.

True, but we've seen no sign that Solas is that ruthless. I think he may certainly be desperate, but I doubt they would ever push Solas into being completely unsympathetic. Just from a writing perspective, it doesn't quite fit with what we know of him. He's dangerous, certainly. Maybe even capable of murder. But I don't think they would ever have him go: "Sorry, Inquisitor, I got to kill you because you got my hand thing. Tough break." 

 

More likely, they'd have another ancient elf try to kill the Inquisitor for it, and then Solas would have to struggle with what side he chooses. But sacrificing Lavellan doesn't seem like it would be on the table. I think he would [and maybe even plans to] sacrifice himself to accomplish his plans. As mentioned earlier, it isn't like his people are going to welcome him with open arms.

That's why I think he stole Mythal's powers.  It's the same as having the orb.
