Anyone else realize that in real time, it would take Solas and Lavellan a couple days to travel to Crestwood? 
 
So, Solas basically was like, "come with me, my love!"
 
Then went on a hike for a couple days. Then dumped her, and walked back home by himself. So sad Lavellan had a couple-days-long walk-of-shame back to Skyhold. 
 
That's cold, Solas. So cold.

You know, I thought about this to. It seemed really crazy they traveled that whole way just for a romantic moment/break up place.

I have this idea that what happened might have been in the Fade.
My reasons are
+Crestwood would take forever to get to and
+That area in Crestwood is gross when you're there during the day (Wyvern poops and lots of bones)
I'd say the only problem (that I can see) with the theory is the Valaslin removal. But we don't know exactly how that works. Maybe it could of been (or even had to be) removed in the Fade.
Um yeah, just some ponderings.

Hah I feel exactly the same way. As soon as I started the shard quests I was like "Oh god, it's Guild Wars 2 all over again"

Reading through this thread is making me all emotional about Solas again. I tried starting a new playthrough with a human quizzy romancing Cullen but it's just not the same. I'm itching to make another Lavellan and have my heart smashed to a million pieces...again.

 

I know!  The Solas romance just feels so canon.  Even if it ends up ending horribly in whatever DLC/next game, it will have been worth it.  He is an intrinisic piece of the universe. 

 

Also the romance just screams legends.  In a thousand years people will still be telling the story of Lavellan and Solas.  I feel the need to write fanfictions, but I can't get sucked into that world again!  I won't do it!

Watching this scene again 1000% confirms my thoughts that I detailed in the Dread Wolf thread which I'll post here:

The Flemeth we see in DAI seemed a bit sad to me.  Her "you were never in any danger from me" line to Morrigan seemed almost like a farewell, I dunno.  I think Solas was in communication with her after he woke up, and stated that he wanted to unlock the Eluvians and awaken the sleeping "Gods" but lacked the power.  Thus he tried to find a work-around by having Corypheus wield the orb (no idea wtf he was thinking with this move, unless Cory is an undercover smooth talker?).  Personal theory: Flemeth knew that was a hella bad idea and offered that if he absorbed her soul he'd have enough power.  Solas, being the Nice Guy, refused and proceeded with Plan 1.  Cue the ending, he failed, and Flemeth offers her power up to him again.

 

Watch the scene with that in your head.  These are two friends resigned with what now must be - the Orb is destroyed and Flemeth is expecting him to show up to take her up on her offer.  He needs the power of Mythal to...do whatever it is he was trying to accomplish with the Orb alone....but to assume her power he has to "kill" her.  Notice how he says HE should be the one to "pay the price" (AKA make the sacrifice) - this is a willing exchange known to both parties; there is no deception going on in this scene.  He's sad and sorry not because he's trying to lure her into stealing her soul, but because it is something she is willingly giving him and it is the only way.  That embrace they share is a goodbye.  

 

I'm positive and will go to my grave with this theory until I am proven horribly, horrendously wrong.     No way is Solas evil.  This was a sad scene made ominous only by the last few notes in the score.

I think part of Solas' goal involves avenging her. Remember his distrust of relying on your friends?

Which gave me pause, because isn't this the same guy that "gave" his foci to Cory?

 

For myself, it just reinforces my belief Solas didn't willingly give the orb to Corypheus, as much as he couldn't stop him from taking it. That there was no collusion happening between the pair. And at worst, Solas was hoping that the orb would destroy Corypheus.

He talked to you about being a Rift Mage? He wouldn't say anything to my Lavellan about it... :c  I even went back to a save 20 hours prior and hunted down all of the tomes again just to see if it was because of the point I was at. Do you remember what the last main story quest was before becoming a Rift Mage?

 

I have the same problem. Cole commented on it; Sera commented on it (unfavorably) but I'm not getting any dialogue from Solas about my Lavellan being a rift mage.

To be honest Im pretty satisfied with the self-contained mortal-meets-god tragedy we got until the post-credit epilogue. Its very bittersweet, I hope Lavellan would eventually realize how special Solas was, and that he would watch over her in dreams because he is too curious to stay away and nothing else really interests him as much in the modern world. The stuff on legend we got to see with our very own eyes. Its all very powerful writing and meaningful experience.

 

Then came the epilogue and potential for DLC.

 

If there is to be more Solas and if hes gonna try to do something big or antagonistic, then it would feel wrong if the romance was not adressed. They cant just keep running into each other you know. Hes already tried the 'running away cause i cant explain' schtik I dont think it would make sense twice.

 

It doesnt have end up with butterflies either (weve got Cullen for that), but sensible closure would be appreciated.

I think if anyone 'died', it was Mythal. Flemeth may just revert back to being a spooky human woman, or a spooky human woman+old god soul depending on your choices.

 

For bioware, that's probably the best of both worlds.

Does anyone else have any trouble romancing another companion?

 

I made a human, intending on romancing Iron Bull. I'm still near the beginning so I haven't picked him up yet and I'm already finding it so hard not to just make another elf. Every time I go speak to Solas, he charms the pants off me, but I'm roleplaying my character in a way in which I net a lot of disapproval from him and it's killing me ahaha. It kills me that I can't even flirt with him.

 

I'm ruined forever I think.

Eh, I get the feeling it was more that he attempted to use Cory as a pawn and ended up underestimating what he was capable of.

When he woke, he didn't have enough power to access his orb in order to use it. Solas probably didn't hand his orb over to Corypheus with some agreement, more likely he left it in a place for him to find in hopes that Cory would be able to generate enough power to unlock the orb for him. He expected Cory to die in the blast that destroyed Haven, where he would reclaim the orb fully activated and go on his way to finish his mission. That's... not what ended up happening. He's genuinely surprised by Cory's resilience and the fact that he survived. While he can theorize how, he doesn't know for sure because, unlike Flemythal, he's actually never had any experience dealing with blighted creatures. While he certainly knows soul jumping/body hopping is possible, I don't think he realized that humans figured out how to access it.

 

He recognizes his mistake and wants to get the orb back. He intends to use the Inquisitor/Inquisition to do the job for him.

 

Was he actually working with Corypheus? No. Was he using Corypheus to get what he wanted? Absolutely.

 

One of Solas' key failings is the fact that underneath all that unwashed apostate hobo he's a bit of a snob. A noble snob with similarities to both Vivienne and Dorian, actually. He just hides it better.

I think Flemeth was willing because she says earlier when you meet her that the soul can't be taken unless the other person is willing. It's obvious that her statement there was a bit of foreshadowing for the later scene.

Yes, I think the only way I can romance someone else is to go back a save on a character... and keep two parallel states for the same person where she romances Solas and someone else.  I really want to try Blackwall's romance (because apparently I have a penchant for drama).

Well DAI added a lot to Flemeth; all we knew before is that she was very old, very powerful, and pulling strings towards an unknown goal.  Here's the thing: we don't know the exact circumstances of her vengeance, and thus her motivations could have been in-line with Solas' this entire time: to restore what was lost.  It's entirely possible she aided the Warden and the Champion in piecing the elements together to make this happen.  Fen'Harel being who he is (the one who locked the Gods away) I'm thinking that he alone is capable of undoing whatever caused the rift between elves, magic, immortality, etc...so in her final moments we get some insightful character depth to Flemeth where before there was just ambiguous mustache-twirling with no rhyme or reason.

 

I don't see this as Flemeth biting a bullet like a sap - I see this as her having the final laugh through her own choices.

EDIT - and there would be no "out wolfing" involved as all the cards are already on the table.  They both knew what had to be if the Orb didn't work out.  I think the only ominous thing about this entire scene is the music, honestly.  I don't expect any trickery.

 

Also, I don't take this as "she's gone forever", just the form that we knew.

So that isn't a bug then?  Because I was so excited to talk to Solas about it. 

 

"The abandon of a creator force" is the line from Your Trainer that sold me on it. 

 

Also everything about Your Trainer was amazing.
