Hi all.
So... replayed the last romance scene today. I was lurking for quite some time in this tread and I remember people thinking whether Solas thought to end relationship with Lavellan from it's beginning or it came to him during the scene.
Well... knowing what to expect... it looked like he totally went with her to the Fade with the intent to dump her >.> Guy could be an immortal god or whatever, but he's clueless like that
. He probably thought telling the truth about valasslin will soften the blow or something, lol. Last gift, so to say. And the kiss after the valasslin's (not-)removal was either goodbye kiss for him or he just couldn't stop himself. Guess breaking up was harder than expected.
I disagree that he took her away with the intent. (I don't know to do the spoilers tag, sorry! So SPOILERS, SPOILERS AHEAD!)This was after he questions you about you'll do with the power you have and/or share with Morrigan. Your reaction sparks something in him-it inspires him, I think, to do better. I think he took her away with the intent of giving her the gift, and as kissed her desperately, and looked upon her, he decided to put aside his selfishness and put his love for her ahead of his own happiness.
Part of the reason I think this is because throughout the game, he thinks him and the Inquisitor being an item is a bad idea because he doesn't want to hurt her, but he's selfish in that he wants more and more of her (we see this little war in his mind through little gestures like head shakes). She changed his everything, after all. But at one point he sees her as this wholly beautiful being that he would no longer tarnish over selfishness, and so, wanting to prevent her from whatever hell he's about to go through, he leaves.
Then again, part of me is soooo hurt not by his "selfless" act of leaving her, but because, if you replay the game or caught this on your first playthrough, we come to understand early in the game that Solas was going to leave. The foreshadowing comes in the second conversation you have with him in Haven (after that first cuscene), where he brings up the orb and that he basically says he'll not give up finding it until he sees the shattered pieces of this "artifact" with his own eyes. But of course, we can headcanon this and say that his reasoning changes depending on the relationship/friendship with the Inquisitor.
