Do a reading for Solas

Don't know how others feel about it, but I am willing to knowwwww! ![]()
I really want to know why there is no possibilty of him being with the Inquisitor. When you talk to Cole after the epilogue he says how Solas has to walk this path alone forever. What is he up to?!?!? There must be more to it than him just wanting to open up the Eluvian to free the Elven gods.
Also, it really ticks me off that after Solas dumps you and you talk to him, he promises that all will be made clear after dealing with Cory and then he just leaves! What the dickens Solas!
Well, I think Solas may have impaired my mind more than I thought he had. Literally had this conversation with my mother this morning.
Mom: Hey honey, can I get you anything to drink?
Me: No thanks mom, I already have tea.
At least, that was what I meant to say, instead I said: No thanks mom, I already have Solas.
I WISH I DID BRAIN, I WISH I DID
I thought Gareth David-Lloyd did a brilliant job of voicing Solas, making Elvish sound like an actual language.
The one conversation that interests me in particular occurs if you take Solas with you into the Fade (seen here at 4:05).
I've seen a number of attempts at translations of Solas' conversations, but I'm fairly certain the ones of his conversation with the Nightmare are based on faulty premises, such as forgetting the fact that while "ma" may translate to the adjective "my" or the objective pronoun "me", it is also used as the pronoun "you". Furthermore, the word "solas" is not capitalized, so the Nightmare is not referring directly to Solas himself. Using the Elven phrases on p. 32 from "The World of Thedas, Vol I", I translate the following thusly (don't read if you want to avoid spoilers):
Nightmare: Dirth ma, Harellan. Ma banal enasalin. Mar solas ena mar din.
(Harellan = Trickster; banal = "nothing", inferred from banalhan = "place of nothing"; enasalin = "the process of obtaining joyful relief", inferred from enasal = "joyful relief"; solas = "pride, to stand tall; din = "the dead")
Solas: Banal nadas.
(nadas = "an inevitability, something that must be")
Nightmare: Tell me, Trickster You have not found joyful relief. What was once proud and stood tall appears to have died.
Solas: It does not have to remain so.
Second playthough, i did All new faded fo her. First time the dialogue in elvish was not translated, now the subtitles are in english
Is this because of the "history perk" (I didn't have it the first time)? I love this!
Edit: or was this a bug the first time? XD

I'm glad people seemed to respond well to my fanfic! ![]()
I'm at work now and will really need you guys to keep me occupied because I am just not feeling it today.
Well I finally finished the game...
I, uh, damn.
Um ... there were words ... I remember how they go.
**** guys, I decided to start playing again and leave the forum and return to this?
*sigh*
Well done on the fiction though. A+ I especially like the physical vagueness and emphasis on metaphor and emotion. It was very fade-like.
I was listening to some banter with Solas and Bull and it got me thinking. He's not wrong to criticize the Imperium and the Qun, but he never offers a solution. He only criticizes. So does he have a solution? Does he just want everyone to be free? That doesn't work though. There has to be some government. Anarchy is an interesting idea, but it has no practical application.
But he can't truly be an Anarchist as he has nothing negative to say about the Inquisitor seizing power across the whole of Thedas. He's only concerned when she/he is too aggressive towards their charges. He doesn't want Democracy either. Since he made that comment that sharing power would never work. So what does he want? A monarchy where the monarch is a "good" person who holds the reigns of the entire kingdom?
That can't be right.
Or is it that his "solution" is so far-fetched that it would never work in "this" Thedas. Thus he never shares it. For instance ripping the world apart and rebuilding it from the ashes?
I see this in his banter with Vivienne as well. She asks him what his solution would be and he basically says that he would simply kill any mages who turn to demons. She is understandably perturbed at that and asks if it would be only him who says who is right and wrong. He doesn't have an answer for her.
I think Lavellan is his solution for everything. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
I say this because of the way their cards are designed and he's the Heirophant, right? So he inspires and illuminates and she gets things done.
Meh, I'm getting to the point that I won't even buy the DLC if we don't get a satisfactory ending. Headcannon is sometimes way better.
Nightmare: Tell me, Trickster You have not found joyful relief. What was once proud and stood tall appears to have died.
Solas: It does not have to remain so.
Concerning this. I came up with a similar translation yet I'd like to add some remarks if no one objects ![]()
Firstly, it is also possible that Nightmare says 'tell yourself' meaning 'admit it' or something. Secondly, I'm not 100 per cent sure what actually is implie in the third phrase. I like this version more, 'cause Nightmare speaks of ancient elves, not Solas personally,
Yet there is a problem with 'mar' translation. I'd say (like in the quote) this is a some sort of negation but it could have other meaning, too..
Also has anyone asked Solas if the orb can be repaired after it was broken? I know I had seen the option for it,but I didn't select it. I really need DLC I'm hoping Bioware gives us one I tell ya this much my Inquisitor would abandon/leave the Inquisition for Solas in a heartbeat to be with him[/spoiler]
yeah, he said something like "it won't be the same", meaning the power of the orb is gone and it won't come back even if you fix the pieces together.
Also, I was interested in "fade kiss" cutscene - when Solas said that "Haven will always be important to you", and Quizzy answer was - "We discussed it already" - em, I missed something? Where and when were they discussing it earlier?
@Brass_Buckles
Speaking of powerful people who turned out to mages ... if you collect all of the landmarks in the Hinterlands you find out that the famous Tyrdda was a mage. It is explicitly stated that if she had not acted as she did it is likely that Fereldan would have fallen before it even began.
So, I mean. Powerful mage heroes popping up at perfect times during history and saving their people is not a new idea. I wonder how many others we could find? I personally think Andraste was a mage. I mean Bioware wouldn't drop heavy hints like that without a reason.
As to whether or not Solas sees himself as a god. I think he does, but only by association. I think he sees himself as as powerful as the other elvhen deities. If they were more than mages or spirits ... whatever. He thinks himself the same. He definitely shoulders god-like responsibilities and sense of duty. Which is ... troubling. Because you are all right there is something painfully mortal about him.
My mage got Tyrdda's "axe" from a war table mission and it is an amazing purple-quality staff. It uses the same model that Solas is carrying on the way to Skyhold.
Also, after reading her story, I got the impression that Tyrdda's "leaf-eared lover" may have been one of the elvhen gods.
yeah, he said something like "it won't be the same", meaning the power of the orb is gone and it won't come back even if you fix the pieces together.
And it pains me that, considering my native language, "ma sa'lath" sounds for me like "mom, salad". It's just... wrong. It makes me giggle while reading fanfics, and I can't help it ><

Erm... Slavic? ![]()
Never had the problem, though,
Erm... Slavic?
Never had the problem, though,
Yes, and it seems I'm the only one with that problem even among my friends. They say it's childish to laugh at something like that, but... I believe I'm powerless.

Well, some words and phrases in other languages can be really funny. I try to abstract from the sounding of the native language and concentrate on the one I'm hearing/speaking. However, elven is not a real language and you can't speak in it... and it's sad that it's undeveloped).

I don't know, but I thought it was funny that Lavellan waited until they trekked all the way to Haven from Skyhold before she raised any objections. I was thinking, Now you start complaining?
Then, I found out the truth of where they were XD
Re: Playlists
Is there a spotify playlist? I seem to remember someone saying they would make one.
If there is, I would like to add to it. (Again.)
It's by Oh Land, called Wolf & I.

I've been stalking deadendthrills.com. Not a lot of Solas shots up yet, but damn some of these are amazing.
Very jelly of these super computers. I hope one with one of the Fen'Harel statues shows up.
I'm pretty sure he's not entirely against it. He doesn't mind an elven Inquisitor being a knight enchanter, and they bind spirits to their blades. I doubt he'd have a problem with a spirit joining a willing mortal host, either.
Those are *willing* spirits, says so right in the codex.
Does Solas have a reaction to the Necromancer specialization?
