For future reference how do you make a spoiler tag?

Edit: And irl I'm not the biggest hugger, don't burn me.

You make a spoiler tag by typing

[!spoiler!]

Type the text you want to put here or paste image you want here. then type:

[!/spoiler!]

But then without all the exclamation marks, hope that thelps, if it goes wrong there's an edit button to fiddle with thankfully :D

@Cat Lance Oh my god a fellow Dave Matthews band fan! :o Never thought I'd see one of those, awesome! :D

Edit: Oh seems like I learned something new too, didn't know you could do it like that too Dracarys, handy!

Going to throw my hat into the ring of "people who dislike hugs."  Also dislike being touched.  Also dislike being in a room with more than 3 total people at once unless it's a big room and they're spread out.

But I feel there have been too many gifs and too much talking about hugs and things that aren't Solas.

Gonna bring back up the ancient elf theory.  I did this before, but apparently people missed it because I had the nerve to post an opinion that Solas is likely to not be a romance in the same post and then they were too busy getting angry at me for having that opinion.

Weekes stated that Solas is early to mid 40s.  But even in Thedas, 40s isn't really old enough he should be talking about "kids these days" about most of the Inquisition companions.  A good many of them are at least in their 30s by appearance alone, and likely as old as Solas himself in many cases.  Sera and Cole are likely the youngest people there, aside from maybe the Scribe Woman Whose Name We Don't Know.

Now, given Rhys's age in TME, Wynne is probably around, oh... 60-70ish in that novel and seems to believe she's outlived herself.  That tells me that people in Thedas have a bit shorter lives compared to many of us in the real world. So is early to mid-40s old in Thedas, then?  Would the average lifespan be more 50-something or 60-something or around 70ish (Wynne's likely age)?  Because I'm getting the vibe that, 1) Weekes wouldn't necessarily tell us Solas's actual age were he to be ancient--he'd give us an apparent/physical age; and 2) Unless he's one of those people who just automatically assumes a fatherly/grandfatherly role despite his age, even 47 is a bit young to be going on about kids-these-days on someone who's mid-30s or early 40s as well.

Just my two cents.

Not disputing that people in Thedas probably have shorter lives than we do, but I actually took this to be in reference to how she died and the spirit of Faith brought her back. "I never knew why the spirit kept me alive, when I should have died all those years ago. Now I do."

Well it is medieval based so I'd assume lifespans would be shorter. Seeing that Solas does go poking around in the memories of ancient places I can see him being wise beyond his years.

That's assuming he isn't an ancient elf. If he is though that would be so interesting.

Yes, but... gonna spoiler tag this

Spoiler

In any case...  If 40s is NOT older in Thedas (though it wouldn't surprise me if people mostly live around 65-70 in Thedas, it would make sense for the setting and how hard it seems to be to scrape by, unless you're very fortunate) then why is Solas going on about "kids these days" unless in jest?

Yes, 40s is old enough to have adult children, and yes, people in Thedas may even have children at younger ages (16-18) than we generally accept in the modern world but older than we would have expected in medieval times (or so I suspect).  But when I think of someone going on about "kids these days," I tend to expect someone older than that.  Late 50s, early 60s at least.

I'm somewhere in the under-40 range (not going to specify, but old enough that 40 is not "old" to me, even if it's above my personal age range preference at the present time), though, and I can sometimes talk about kids these days... if they're elementary school students or so.  So I guess it's feasible, it just doesn't seem like something a person in Solas's age range would do... unless he's considerably older than he's "supposed" to be.

'Course... he could still be a standard run of the mill apostate.

Maybe it is because Solas is one of the oldest ones on the team aside from Blackwall. How old are the others looking compared to these Solas and Blackwall? Most look like they are in the same age range to me except for Sera and Cole.

Edit: or it could be in terms of attitude

Solas may simply be more wise than most of the others. and with his calm personality, he probably seem to act like an older guy, or he himself can feel this way, like most people who lived alone or counting on their own strenght for a long time.

Varric is probably around 40.  Cullen is at least mid-30, he was likely in his 20s in DA:O.  Sera looks to be in her late-20s, early-30s.  Iron Bull could be anywhere from early-30s to mid-40s, I really can't tell.  Vivienne is probably early-30s but I might be wrong.  Cole looks around 20something but is basically ageless, and yet has the mind of a child.  I've heard people speculate that Cassandra is most likely in her early 40s.

So basically if Solas is the age Weekes says he is, he's not that much older than most of the rest of the cast.

Again, it could be a joke, and of course his isolation and his attachment to the Fade might have skewed his perception.  Maybe he feels much older than he is.  Or maybe he's older than he appears to be physically.

I'm inclined to believe that he is either joking or his perception is skewed by time in the Fade, so that even if he is not personally ancient he may FEEL ancient after being exposed to so much history via the Fade.  If his perception is skewed, it once again does not bode well for him as a romance.  (I'm okay with that; there's always fanfiction if I absolutely MUST have him, and otherwise he seems like he's going to be one awesome companion to have in my party.)

I am kind of doubtful off the ancient elf thing now, because I don't know if they would specifically say he was just an apostate if he was something else. I don't know. Being vague is one thing, but I don't know how I feel about them explicitly giving information that isn't true. I get "spoilers", but then I think they should just stay vague on the issue, imo.

I think he could just feel older because he spends all this time viewing other people's memories, especially people from a long time ago, and I think maybe that makes him feel like he did live over all these periods when he didn't necessarily.

Yeah, I just mentioned his perception might be skewed from all of his time in the fade.  He delves into Fade memories of ancient people (elves and otherwise), so it would make sense if in the process, living life after life through different people's eyes, he'd begin to feel old, himself.  Might be kind of sad, actually--he might have had a feeling of tremendous age for decades already, even though he's not actually very old.

Never be sorry for creating such beauty. Never ever ever. *throws homemade "like" at you 'cause mine are still gone*

Regarding Solas, I think he may just be one of those "old soul" types.  The eternal absentminded professor. He probably smoked a pipe when he was in his teens. That sort of person, who was never a wild child, probably doesn't have a lot of tolerance for, you know, antics. *coughSERAcough*

Seriously, though, I bet he and Sera are really incompatible.

I guess the Fade could have given him this type of mentality of feeling older than what he is. We know that in Origins the Fade is a very mysterious place when it comes to how time flows and how much one feels how much time has gone by. I forgot his name, but he was the one with the litany of adralla in origins who tried to save the circle, but the sloth demon put him to sleep. In terms of actual time I remember that he was not trapped too long compared to how he felt so maybe Solas feels this way.

Edit: found out his name. Alright it seems he does not specify, but I read on the wiki that the Fade can take life force away from someone if they are in the fade too long and they will eventually die. Probably where I got the idea that someone feels like more time has passed by than there actually is. In terms of how long it could have been we know that it could have happend at any time after the mage origin (unless someone can prove me wrong then tell me how much time has passed)

Since he's reliving people's lives in the Fade, and the Fade amounts to a dreamworld, and time seems to pass faster in dreams (i.e. I can dream a day's worth of events, or more, in the span of the few minutes wherein REM sleep takes place), he may actually have lived hundreds of lives over.

... Which now gives me weird creepy vibes on elven immortality and how it was achieved, IF it was achieved.  What if elves in uthenera eventually took over the bodies of elves living out their lives in the real world?   It might explain some certain spoilery things...

I think that its less that he's old (he's not much older than Cassandra, Varric, or other members of the party). When you're submerging yourself in the memories of peoples decades, centuries, even thousands of years gone some things are going to stick. Think along the lines of the Exile in KOTOR 2 when Mira says that while they might not physically be old, spiritually it's like they're a hundred inside.

Plus, in the case of Sera, Cole, and possibly Dorian who are younger members of the group "kids these days" probably could apply considering we have a foulmouthed little pixie, a boy who can wipe people's minds, and a sarcastic Magister who wants to reform his homeland.

Well, I brought up the "living hundreds of lives" things above...

In any case, I know people are going to go all hateful on me for saying this just like they did last night, but even if there are 8 LIs this time (and I'm not convinced of it but I think it's certainly possible)  due to race-gating, whether or not Solas is available may depend on whether or not he views the Inquisitor as a child as well.  If he does, then it may be impossible to make him see the Inquisitor in any other light--and that stinks for all of us, and I'd have a lot of trouble even writing a fanfic involving a Solas with that view of the Inquisitor changing his mind enough to romance said Inquisitor.

Given that several people feel Blackwall looks like their dad, even people on the dev team, I'd be surprised, even were there 8 LIs, if Blackwall were an option.  I know some people really want him, though, and that stinks for them.  Still, if I'm right, that improves Solas's chances if there is a fourth male LI spot.
