So, I wrote a thing. I'll leave it here. I haven't written fanfiction in forever. This is what Solas does to me. A Joyful Rebellion Recommended listening (because I was listening to this song when I wrote it)

Well, it would be awkward since Flemythal and Fen'harel predate Andraste by a significant period of time. So unless they fought the Tevinter Imperium to free the slaves, I'm inclined to go with no. However, it does kick my brain into "nope!" territory. Solas has enough to make up for without using the Inquisitor as a replacement for a previous relationship.

 

Well, I did wonder if the reason for his hesitance, or one of the reasons, is there was someone else.  And he does mention a betrayal, and a woman whose face is so familiar he could carve it.  Whether he was betrayed by his lover, or his lover was the one damaged by the betrayal, or she wasn't a lover at all, we don't know.  But it's pretty clear he's been with someone in the past; he does say "It's been a long time."  Considering who he is and how old he is, it would be kind of silly to assume he hasn't ever been in a serious relationship.  Maybe even sillier to assume he wasn't in one with one of the ancient elven pantheon, who would still be around.

 

We may have plopped ourselves right into the middle of a love triangle, folks.  And I don't know if Solas's previous lover is going to be okay with him moving on.  And Lavellan is still mortal... so, yeah... our chances look very poor indeed, even if Flemeth was the past lover.  I do not get that impression--I did at first, but the gesture was wrong.  It seems more motherly, as others said.  But could they have been lovers who split up?  Certainly, but it seems it ended, or that they both knew they couldn't pick it back up now, given the circumstances.

For the dialogue where he says he made a mistake by trusting his friends and he mentions carving every angel from her face, I believe it isn't actually referring to an individual. I think he is just giving the female gender to that mistake. I'll look to see if I can find the actual quote, but for me, I got the impression he was calling trusting his friends a mistake a she the same way one might call a country or a ship or justice a she.

Absolutely love his story, his character and the mystery about him. I'll be romancing him over and over and over again.
He was alone and lonely for sooooo long... Until he met elven quizzy who was different from others.... I believe he left bc he didn't know how to deal with all the feelings and he wants to fix thing, make them right. Plus part of him being Wolfey elven god didn't help, he doesn't know how she will react to him deceiving her all this time... I believe they will be reunited and if they not.... We will be seeing him anyways, bc his story just began.

Don't know if anyone romanced Thane in ME, but what made that romance fantastic is tragedy and great love behind it... I won't lie I cried like a lil baby, but I replayed it over and over again. I feel Solas romance is fantastic as thanes.... I hope it won't follow with tragedy tho

There's so much interesting information in that conversation, but it dovetails right into that beautiful, heartbreaking breakup.  I just can't do it unless I psyche myself up first.

Well I never assumed he'd never been in a relationship before. I just get a little twitchy on the subject. Mostly because of Jacob from ME3, I never romanced him but I can see where some people would see it as a backstab. It's actually not the idea that it could never work or even a past lover that's the problem, it's the idea of "well, you were just a minor diversion" and "here's my true love over here". I don't get the feeling that's the case with Solas, still...  

 

Lavellan's chances were pretty much always poor. I'm more hoping they expand on it a little to leave the end satisfying and leave the rest to fanfiction and headcanon.

So I tested what Solas says if you decide just to be friends after the first kiss.  It's kind of cute, actually (even though I will still go back and say "let's risk it" ):

 

Lavellan: Agreed.  Best simply to be friends.

Well I never assumed he'd never been in a relationship before. I just get a little twitchy on the subject. Mostly because of Jacob from ME3, I never romanced him but I can see where some people would see it as a backstab. It's actually not the idea that it could never work or even a past lover that's the problem, it's the idea of "well, you were just a minor diversion" and "here's my true love over here". I think you're underestimating Solas' love.  He actually took a diversion from his plan that he's insisting on doing alone.  Quizzy pulled his attention almost derailing his plans. That last scene, it was like he was going to tell Quizzy he was the Dread Wolf. "The truth"  I believe he loved her quite a bit, I dont' think we'll get anything like him saying "my true lover over here"  XD

I don't think people need to worry too much about love triangles, even if they do bring up past relationships. There's just so much drama already in the romance that adding in a conflict like that would be a bit melodramatic. If anything is going to break Solas/Lavellan up, it will because Solas goes too far and becomes unredeemable in her eyes.
