So everyone seems to be fangirling (or guying?...that sounds weird boying? manning? Okay off topic) about this Garrus fellow. So I (someone's who's only played BioWare's Dragon Age series) decided to go look this guy up.

Garrus is definitely not about the looks, for me anyway--some people think he's hot.  He's got a very attractive voice, however, and his personality is interesting.  So even though I don't find him physically appealing, and even though if turians actually existed I'd probably run screaming in terror from them and certainly wouldn't want to date one or sleep with one, he remains my top fave BioWare romance.  But that could change if there's ever more content for Solas.

Heh, I can understand the reaction.  For me, Garrus is all about the personality and chemistry he has with Shepard- which is all great.  They were basically best friends who became lovers, and have pretty much no drama between them.

Garrus is honestly a great character.  I'm not into his romance arc as much as a lot of people are.  But seriously, whether he's Shepard's BFF or the love of her life, he's just fantastic. I always prefer to keep him just friends, he's my F!Shep's closest and most loyal friend.  Mass Effect is scifi, but it also has, to me, a lot of epic fantasy elements to it.  Will always be one of my favorite stories, not just games.  Sorry, totally off-topic, but I really wanted to say something lol.  Garrus may not be dashing and handsome, but he's sooooo fricking awesome.

Garrus, especially in 2 and 3, is probably the closest I'd describe to an actual soulmate relationship in a Bioware game. Whether he's your work husband or your actual husband, he and Shepard are totally in sync. They get each other in all the ways that matter. They support each other, stand by each other, there's zero drama, and they're pretty much totally united 100% of the time.

 

They're great. I love him. He's so very Garrus. My favorite Bioware romance of all time.

Yeah, one thing I'll say for Garrus that Solas doesn't always do, is if you have a problem, Garrus will come over and talk to you about it and offer comfort.  Even if he's occasionally really bad at it, because he's a pessimist.

 

If you go to Solas to talk about your problems, he may not say anything at all.  Or if he does, it's usually going to be hard truth rather than any effort to comfort you, even if you're romancing him.  But, there's something admirable about that, too.  Solas won't pretend to be someone he isn't just to make you feel better about your mistakes.  And, if you made a mistake, he wants you to learn from it.

 

Still, with the way Solas's romance goes, and how it ends... I still think Garrus trumps him in terms of actual content.  Even if Solas is a whole lot sexier to look at.

Most definitely. Garrus is still #1 in my heart. I remember playing ME1, and thinking, "Hokay, I get this blue chick who is like a teenager, or this boring handsome nice guy." (no offense to Kaiden, but YAWN, though his voice actor is amazing. I picked Kaiden because Liara felt like gross, she was so young acting ew). "Why can't I romance this weird renegade alien guy with the sexy voice? I was so stoked in ME2 when they gave me a flirt option with Garrus. I was like WHAT?!?!?! I GET TO BANG HIM?! Yes, Shepard, you get to bang him. All was well in the galaxy, and There is no Shepard without Vakarian.       

 

That tango scene! SO cute. I loved how right beforehand this hot Turian chick was totally checking out Garrus before Shep gets there, but he only has eyes (and mandibles) for Shep.

Poor Thane, I romanced the heck out of him until ME3 and realized the b*****d couldn't love Shepherd enough to get treatment.  Then along comes Garrus.  Oh, Garrus.   What a ride.

The connection and spirit between him and Shepard---I can't even. And you know what? Maybe they don't always agree, but Shep and Garrus are there to support each other no matter what, watching each other's six in more ways than one. He was just so... so real and honest, and and.. Garrus is awesome.

@Brass_Buckles, I totally agree that Solas would want you to learn from it. But I can also see him trying to comfort you, it's just in a different way. Plus we also have to think about the fact that you get to really bond with Garrus throughout all three games,  whereas we have to do a lot of imagining in Inquisition, we really have to fill things out for ourselves.

You know who really surprised me with romance in that game? The Imperial Agent LI, Vector. He's like, this weird bug man? At first i was like, "Really, Bioware?" But then he kept talking about the song of his people and being all cute. And I was like "Oh okay, get your weird pupil-less black eyes over here."

 

Malavai Quinn is probably my favorite though. So repressed and proper! (Don't spoil me I still haven't gotten to the part where he does that thing)

I think he's dashing, and very charming.  But for someone who has no context for the character and just an image on google...

I was super into my Jedi Knight and Doc. Tho my first character was an Imperial Agent, and her relationship with Vector was....disturbingly hot.
