It occurs to me that Solas or Cullen in body, with Garrus's personality, would probably be the perfect BioWare romance for straight female characters.

So everyone seems to be fangirling (or guying?...that sounds weird boying? manning? Okay off topic) about this Garrus fellow. So I (someone's who's only played BioWare's Dragon Age series) decided to go look this guy up.
"Who is romantic man who has all these people fan-youknowwhating? He must be some special hawtness to have more people bring him up than Alistair."
*Types Garrus into search bar*
...
....
*Silence*
...
*Cough*
Um...yeah. I'm more of a fantasy person *grabs Legolas and holds him close* myself, but whatever flies with you SciFi lovers. I'm sure he's something special XD.
"Come Legolas, you shall meet your shorter elven brethren, and we will all run off into the sunset together!"
I have an elf problem.
Garrus Vakarian is the Bioware love of my life. Just thinking about him makes me want to run back and play all three Mass Effects again.
And Garrus is sexy like a Ferrari is sexy. All power and sleek angles. Also he's an enormous dork. Aaaaargh, dammit, I need to play Mass Effect again. I was so pissed at the ending the first time around but the extended cut made it all better.
I just said Solas won't pretend to be someone he isn't to make you feel better...
But he will pretend to be someone he isn't so you don't freak out and try to get away from the Dread Wolf. Or something.
From his perspective there's no way this can go well. It's like having your boyfriend tell you he's in fact Lucifer. This is the Dread Wolf, the bogeyman of the Dalish, the one they blame for the fall of their gods and by extension, their people. On the one hand, it's a deep personal pain for Solas, watching the Dalish get everything wrong after all he did to free them. On the other hand, it's a selfish thing. He doesn't seem to think he can tell the truth with her hating him. The longer he can go without telling Lavellan, the longer he has her love.
He can be totally wrong, depending on quizzy. My Lavellan doesn't care that he's the Dread Wolf; she knows his heart, and she loves him. She's more pissed over the fact that he felt he had to deceive her.
Yeah, one thing I'll say for Garrus that Solas doesn't always do, is if you have a problem, Garrus will come over and talk to you about it and offer comfort. Even if he's occasionally really bad at it, because he's a pessimist.
If you go to Solas to talk about your problems, he may not say anything at all. Or if he does, it's usually going to be hard truth rather than any effort to comfort you, even if you're romancing him. But, there's something admirable about that, too. Solas won't pretend to be someone he isn't just to make you feel better about your mistakes. And, if you made a mistake, he wants you to learn from it.
Still, with the way Solas's romance goes, and how it ends... I still think Garrus trumps him in terms of actual content. Even if Solas is a whole lot sexier to look at.
Well, Garrus has an advantage over every Dragon Age companion in that he has three games to get his wheels turning where Solas has just one. He really shines in 3 but that's because we had 1 to get to know him and 2 to adjust to the idea of dating him and realize he is superior to just about every other companion romance. The only one who actually rivals him in terms of content is Liara and if you don't play Lair of the Shadow Broker then you get nothing. His romance is the best developed, hands down because his character has time to evolve.
He's awesome.
Solas is exceptional for the time he has.

My Inquisitor Uth'Shiral probably wouldn't take it too well, no. At least, not at first. Given time to get used to the idea, she'd realize that what she'd seen of Solas was the "real" Fen'Harel, not the legends and lore she'd heard.
But I wouldn't go so far as to say he's the Dalish devil; that's untrue since the Forbidden Ones fill that category and are seen as even worse than Fen'Harel. Fen'Harel has some degree of reverence toward him for his clever trickery, but you don't want to catch his attention and, well, the Dalish see him as basically a massive jerk who doesn't care about their fates other than for his own amusement.

Yeah, that's the thing. I love slow burn romances so much, and Garrus's subordinate -> friend -> lover -> true love and companion was just so well paced through those three games. I've never seen a romance like it.

That's true, I overstated a bit. He's more the Loki than the Lucifer.
And now I'm picturing Tom Hiddleston as live-action!Solas.

WAIT! Someone that isn't still holding on to the anger after the extended cut!!
Oh dear god. Googlefu failed me!! I looked for a "It's a miracle gif" and I saw a baby birth gif. ![]()
Okay,
So the conversation with Solas right after the Temple of Mythal quest will lead to Solas questioning what you will do with your power.
If you choose the "trust in my friends option" and then "we will" You will say,
"I trust my friends."
And then Solas will reply with,
"I know that mistake well enough to carve the angels of her face from memory."
To me this sounds like he is referring to the mistake as a female and not actually talking about a specific person.
I dunno. The fact that he could have as easily sasid "its face" makes me think it's a subtle dig at Flemythal.
Ugh, never mind. The less theory-mongering about that business, the better- it's just a big bag of crazy.

OMG I was actually thinking about this earlier when someone posted a picture of Solas being held back by his Inquisitor, and he's looking like he's holding back tears... reminded me of this:

Ha! I actually refused to finish the game for two years or something. I kept thinking about that original ending and getting furious. Didn't even bother with the extended cut. Then I watched the EC destroy ending with the bit where Shepard lives and...it's beautiful. That whole sequence at the end where Hackett talks about how they can rebuild everything, and they show the Citadel gradually being rebuilt, and everyone doing their own thing, and Wrex and Eve's Krogan baby. And the end where Garrus refuses to put Shepard's name on the memorial wall. And then they start up the Normandy. And finally, showing that Shepard did survive after all. I think I cried. I didn't need to see Shepard walking out of the rubble herself. Just knowing that she was alive, and the galaxy was gonna get better. That's all I needed.

Oh no. It has to be Paul! Have you seen him act?!

I don't know if any of you play SWtOR, but I was totally fangirling over Corso with my Smuggler.
He had that cute old-fashioned country boy thing going on... *sigh*
(edit: And I actually met my boyfriend through SWtOR since we were in the same guild... go figure, ha)
Corso is adorable! ![]()
I haven't gotten very far in ToR though, I stopped playing before they got rid of the subscription fee. College is killing me.
Also, add me on the Garrus, Liara, Dean Winchester fan bandwagons.
I adore Garrus. He's such a great character. I agree that their dynamic is great. The best friends to lovers works really well, especially in real life.
I might be one of the rare Liara fangirls here.. But she's my canon Shepard romance. She's so freaking cute with the awkward nerdiness.(I have a type. Can't you tell? I've only been fangirling over Solas for a huge amount of time..) And her love for Shepard is just.. Amazing. Her and Garrus are my favorite ME characters.
And Dean is just badass. I was originally a Sam fangirl, but.. Woo. Dean won me over.
Speaking of scenes that make us swoon.. Those Solas kisses. Woo. ~swoons~ The animations in Inquisition are amazing. I can't get over how realistic they are. You can feel the passion in the kisses. And Solas grabs Lavellan like he's never going to let her go.
I keep hoping that the fact that you're completely locked into his romance at the end means good things are yet to come. But if not, fanfiction. I have about 50 idea starters to write off of after this week.
Oh man! I finally ran out of likes! This has never happened to me before!
But Theory's are good. It substains us!
You mean the nutjob theory that the Tevinter slave revolution and subsequent rise of the Andrastean faith was Solas/Flemythal's Xth attempt at setting society "right"? =w= Nobody wants that.
I hope that there's some significance behind "locking" Solas into a romance besides, "Here, you get an achievement. Thanks for trying."
Like, it will actually carry over in a satisfying way in any post-ending content.

The Gann romance in Mask of the Betrayer beats it for me, but that's because it's so deeply woven into the story, full of character development for both him and the player character all the way through to the end. Falling in love with the player changes him, builds him up, and makes him grow. A man barely more than a whimsy dream becomes real as he finds love and through it faith thus bringing him salvation. All the while it mirrors the story of Akachi and his love and his war with the gods to tear down the Wall of the Faithless. It's... breathtaking.
He's also hilarious.
Garrus is also amazing.

It has to. It'd be cruel for it not to.
Other than that, I mean, just look at the difference in his tarot cards, based on romance or not. The difference is so big, that it has to mean something, if he returns (and he's definitely returning, just a question of if its for dlc or DA4)

I love everyone of the theories that is presented.

Gann was also voiced by Crispin Freeman.
I really need to go back and play MotB. My computer wasn't good enough to play it when it came out

I'm of a mind that they made the romance lock that moment for a reason. They easily could have made the balcony kiss the lock if they wanted to. And the fact that you can't rebound on anyone makes me think that Solas left but the romance is far from considered over. Even if we don't get any more content, the romance is alive and well for Solas, it seems!
