I'm of a mind that they made the romance lock that moment for a reason. They easily could have made the balcony kiss the lock if they wanted to. And the fact that you can't rebound on anyone makes me think that Solas left but the romance is far from considered over. Even if we don't get any more content, the romance is alive and well for Solas, it seems!

Maybe it locks in then because that's the moment that Solas shows he truly loves you.

Also really hoping this is a sign of things to come.

The Gann romance in Mask of the Betrayer beats it for me, but that's because it's so deeply woven into the story, full of character development for both him and the player character all the way through to the end. Falling in love with the player changes him, builds him up, and makes him grow. A man barely more than a whimsy dream becomes real as he finds love and through it faith thus bringing him salvation. All the while it mirrors the story of Akachi and his love and his war with the gods to tear down the Wall of the Faithless. It's... breathtaking.

He's also hilarious.

Garrus is also amazing.

I loved Gann! He really grows a lot as a character. It's beautiful. It was a big improvement over the previous game's romances. Casavir. Bleh. But I angsted hardcore over Bishop. Really hardcore. I actually beta tested the Bishop romance mod.

I also love Kulyok's Xan mod. Though I haven't seen the new happy ending yet.

And Valen from Hordes of the Underdark. He had that voice, and he sang.. And I swooned. He also grew into an amazing romance character. The whole distrust growing into trust, then shy romantic feelings.

Gann was also voiced by Crispin Freeman. ;) I really need to go back and play MotB. My computer wasn't good enough to play it when it came out

Doooooo eeeeeeeet.

I keep hoping that the fact that you're completely locked into his romance at the end means good things are yet to come. But if not, fanfiction. I have about 50 idea starters to write off of after this week.

Please read mine! I would be super honored and even more pleased if you sent me a link to whatever you write as well :)

Freaking Bishop. Ugh.

Though that reminds me of my other Bioware true love (well, technically not Bioware but Obsidian true love doesn't sound as good), Atton Rand. Goddamnit, Atton. From a game so buggy that the battles near the end turned into a slide show the first time I played. But you know, for all of the hate the ending of KOTOR 2 got, I freaking loved it. Because it had Atton and the Exile walking off into the sunset together, him starting to tell her a story. And with the restored content mod it's even better.

Atton's the reason I can't play TOR. I don't want to play in a world where that didn't work out (not to mention the awful character assassination the Exile got. Blaaaah).

Considering he has a Keep romance tile, it's almost guaranteed to have some bearing on future content - whether that be DLC or DA4, I can't guess. The fact you're locked in after he dumps you also says (to me, at least) that the story ain't over there...

As for Mass Effect romances, I romanced Thane. After Solas was announced all I would think is "oh please let him have a happy ending, don't let him get Thane'd". Now, all I can say is "Well, at least he didn't die."

I got through TOR by just pretending it happened in an alternative universe.  And hissing every time canon!Revan or Exile was mentioned.  I did a lot of hissing on Dromond Kaas  :D

I wound up not pursuing any of the romances except Torian Cadera.  I played more male characters than female, and the romances options for them just felt...skeevy and inappropriate.

Yeah... Bishop is my Chaotic Good Bard's might have been. She crushed on him so hard... so hard... in the I'm too intelligent to date you but I really, really can't deny this sexual attraction type way. Then she met Gann and it was "woof".

Atton, oh my god. I love him. So much. He's the dark version of Han Solo. And the Exile is one of my favorite protagonists of all time. She just feels like a Jedi, a snarky, snarky, snarky Jedi Master with a ship full of disciples (except you Disciple.).

Ooh. Bookmarked for when I have time. :)

I'm planning to post a link to my fanfic here once I get started on it.

Sigh. Now I want to play a million different games and romances. For all my video game boyfriends.

Freaking Bishop. Ugh.

I LOVE Atton.  I also like Carth too. But bad boys? Gimme.

That's why I love the videos on youtube of their "romance". Because it shows all the wonderful-ness of Atton with the Exile, without any of the awful bugs. I played Kotor 2 all of once, because the bugs made it so hard to enjoy the game.

I also hate that they made Revan and the Exile canon characters, and then mangled them horribly. Revan was totally not a dude. She got with Carth, and flew off happily. And my Exile is off causing chaos with Atton somewhere in a Cantina.

I do love the romances in ToR though. Doc is like Atton meets Mal from Firefly.  And Corso is the sweetest southern guy my smuggler ever met.

How could I forget about Atton and the associated fanfic I consumed to fill the void he left in my heart?  It really made me want a KotOR 3, too, to see Atton finally confess his love for her (as opposed to just that one scene in the restored content patch).

Off topic, but since you guys are so awesome... which mage specialization would you recommend?  I can't decide.  Is Necromancer any good?

Do want!!!

His past rebelliousness inspired me to make my new Lavellan look like a punk girl (and she has a spunky, rebellious, and playful personality).  I headcanon that she reminds him of his past self, hehe.

Oh god, is he ever. He is...really dark. And it's even more surprising with how little you expect it. Because he's so snarky and happy-go-lucky in a cynical sort of way. But then you find out that he is super broken. But damn if I don't love him to bits. And the Exile is the best implementation of Protagonist as Therapist I've ever seen (and she's pretty broken herself, they all are). I recently bought KOTOR 2 on steam and replayed it...and went insane over the screenshot key. It's kind of embarrassing how many screenshots I've taken of that game.

Whoops, my hand slipped.

Heh, sorry about that. In my long history of torrid Bioware/Obsidian romances, Solas actually ranks up there with Atton for most surprising revelation. And after said revelation, you can go back and really examine everything they said before and go "ohhhh, so that's what that was about." I also like how the approval system in DAI is like the influence system in KOTOR 2. It provides insight into the characters without making things too game-y. Like how Atton's influence goes up right after he snarks at you for helping a person in need. What a tsundere.

Only problem is that while in Atton's case the revelation comes about mid-way through the game, Solas's comes right at the freaking end and you don't even get to talk to him about it. Yet another reason why we need DLC.

You can kinda get a feel for them yourself by using your different mage party members.

Rift Mage is like Force Mage from 2, it's aoe spam and best if paired with a high damage mage that uses lightning and/or fire. It's especially good with passives that cut down your cool downs if you boost with critical chance. Solas likes you if you pick this one.

Knight Enchanter - if you get the hang of it, you are an unkillable god. So, it depends on whether or not you want to fight in close quarters. Winter powers like fade step and ice mine (with the passive upgrade that gives you armor) are good, it's helpful to spec into the barrier tree but you don't actually need it. Do you want to hack and slash? KE yes!

Necromancer - I hear it is fun. Making your enemies flee at the sight of you is much, much fun. Just remember to toggle off any enemy you raise when you're done with them because they can prevent Fade rifts from closing and quests from completing while the game hasn't figured out that they're dead yet. This one is also best when paired with a high damage output mage.

I hear Necromancer is fun, but I haven't done it. I thoroghly enjoyed both Rift Mage and Knight Enchanter, but choosing is about playstyle. Take the different mage party members around and pilot them, see how you feel. Choose that one.

The forum died unfortunately. Which was a shame. I have no idea when it stopped existing. I had a module that I was working on linked to Petals and thorns too. I'm not sure if I still have it or not. It was a great forum community. Some of us are still here on the bioware forums.
