I'm not exactly the best at articulating my points, but how I see it is that Solas, now more than ever, understands the meaning of the word "consequences". He's currently at two for two it seems, so I can't exactly see him making another huge mistake that could lead to the end of the world.

If anything, I think the road he's going down ("the path I now must walk in solitude forever") is going to be one of self sacrifice and he's going to have to give up something great in order to accomplish that. If he's being honest about this being something he wouldn't wish on an enemy, it doesn't exactly bode well for him, y'know? He doesn't want to bring other people into it because he thinks he started this, so he's the only one who should face the ramifications.

Another reason not to bring others into it is because he doesn't trust them enough. It's been a long time since he could, and if you choose the "I trust my friends" option then he tells you he made that mistake - I'd bet that the result of that was probably enough to dissuade him from pretty much ever doing that again. That's something I find absolutely tragic about him, because he just won't let anyone in or allow himself the happiness of companionship. If you're in a relationship with Blackwall, he has a banter with him that I found particularly highlights this:

I mean, speak for yourself, Solas. :(

So, it's been going through my head, the vallaslin, it uses blood and ink.  I wonder if they worked just like slave collars and the ancient elves used blood magic on them, that "activated" the marks.

I think it was Tielis who wondered if it might have some connection to Fenris's lyrium tattoos? It seems logical that there might have, at one point, been an element of control to them.

Do any of you know Solas well enough to feel comfortable with co-writing party banter with an OC of mine? It's for a different Tevinter character that I thought would provide an interestingly different perspective on the events of Inquisition.

It's an interesting thing to think about.  There has to be some of the ancient elves out there. One's that weren't slaves.  Or even one of the gods that kept slaves.  Imagine the chaos they could bring to the Dalish if they decided to take control.

Not me, but we have some brilliant writers in here and I know I'd love to see the end results if you're interested in sharing. :)

I doubt the element of control still exists in the markings. It just might have been their original intention. Nowadays there's no blood magic or anything else involved, its just a matter of a rite of passage.

Considering Abelas had tattoos, I would say that the scale of what was considered a 'slave' had a lot of tiers to it. These were the markings of the gods, its very likely most of them saw it as an honor to have them rather than a mark of servitude.

Solas needs to trust, a support network, and therapy.

Solas does not need to make world altering decisions on his own.

That really seems to be our quizzie's job.

I think it's both/and. He wants to stop Corypheus, but reclaiming the place that holds back the sky probably figures into his larger plans, too- or could. The reason I think this is that when the Inquisitor first sees Skyhold, there's a shot of his face as she moves past and his expression turns sharp, stern. You could see it as sinister if you were of a mind. I think he was definitely calculating here. Much as I like the character, he's manipulative every step of the way.

I'm not quite sure if its sinister/calculating. I kind of figured from the bits Morrigan tells us of skyhold and the stuff in Solas' room its more a look of concern. From how I interpreted things it looks as though Skyhold may be connected to him, or even have been his long ago. It seems like he gives it to the Inquisitor so that he/she is safe and thus a chance at correcting his mistakes still exists, but he's nonetheless concerned about failure.

However he is still rather... Shady.

I mean look at this expression when he says "spirit". He knows something.

Spoiler

Between Solas' expression here and Kieran's comment on our blood, there is likely something weird about our inquisitor that nobody bothered to tell us directly. <_<

So... Sorry to barge in the thread. I'm about to roll my second play though -- a female dalish mage, and I was planning on romancing Solas.  BUT...

Spoiler

After romancing Solas first and then switching to Cullen later on..

In the beginning, Solas does that he has to travel the world in order to dream in new places and learn new things. So, it occured to me that perhaps he needed to specifically go into the Fade at Skyhold, it wouldn't exactly be noticeable to anyone. In retrospect, he obviously knows much more about Skyhold than he ever lets on, whether purposeful or not. In fact, it's Morrigan that gives the Inquisitor a more detailed history than he did.

But that is purely tinfoil speculation. More than anything Skyhold was probably convenient.

So, there are some really interesting paintings on rocks in the emerald graves. Including one of a lizard man.

Do we know that for fact?  THe keeper applies them, but do we know how?  I mean, they've kept at it all this time, despite (according to Solas) being slave markings.  Maybe the kept it up in a way to return to their "masters" when they returned, so they wouldn't' change the "recipe."

When Kieran mentions you being an elf, you can joke that it must have been the ears that gave you away. He says no, it was the ancient blood in you. Or something like that.

When you meet him. he mentions that he didn't expect inquisitor to be an elf. If you choose middle options, your Inqi address to ears, but Kieran says that he sees ancient blood in you,

I made the joke response with Kieran when he pointed out im an elf. y'know the classic "Did the ears give me away" bit. His response included mentioning my blood was very old. It could just be a comment towards elves in general but the way it was accented seemed off to me.

It's when he makes a comment on you being an elf. If you chose a funny dialoge option, it will be:

 - I quess you knew 'cause of my ears?

 - No, it's your blood, it's old.

Or something like that.

I always take the hit on that discussion with Solas.

When he asks what Lavellan will do with the her powers, I go 'Ill get by with the help of my friends' cause really... thats how the Inquisition came about. People working together instead of pulling for their mages/templars/chantry side.

And Solas gets all pissy that groups get corrupted (now if you try to see things from his eyes, all institutions do get their purpose changed over hundreds of years and none will stay relevant for ever. He is right... over centuries)

I could say 'ill change things for the better on my own' and make him happy, but that would just encourage him in his selfish view of bringing changes onto people.
