So... Sorry to barge in the thread. I'm about to roll my second play though -- a female dalish mage, and I was planning on romancing Solas. BUT...
Spoiler
On a scale of the Remigold to the Ultimate Sacrifice, how emotionally crushing is the romance? Does it feel satisfying? Complete? Is there emotional catharsis and resolution, at least? Or does it all feel awful and soul-crushing and unresolved? I can handle the sadness if it's narratively satisfying, but I just want to prepare myself going in if there's frustration and disappointment.
Also, does he have a decent chunk of romance content? i just came off of romancing Cullen, who had a TON it felt like, so I'm just curious. I'm assuming, as well, that a romanced Solas is less of mystery cipher than when he goes unromanced. In my previous play through, I never felt like I understood him/got close to him, despite chatting him up all the time. Is there more dialogue and insight with the romance?
I've been trying to gauge the romance based on the replies here and I'm still not sure what it's like. Sorry if this is a redundant/annoying question!
I'll be honest with my answers, the good and the bad!
It's pretty sad. I feel like we react a little too strongly on here haha but yeah it's a rather depressing ending. In my opinion it's satisfying in its own way but nowhere near complete. If you're looking for resolution, the Solas romance isn't for you.
Honestly, his romance content feels really lacking compared to others, particularly Cullen who has 8 romance scenes from what I hear. You also don't get a gift scene with Solas and can't kiss him whenever you like the way you can with the others. The scenes he has are AMAZING and passionate and full of great choreography, animation, voice acting and feelings, though. There just aren't a lot of them. They were good enough that Solas fans still gush about it even though others have more scenes!
You undoubtedly feel closer to him when you romance him. There's still a ton of mystery, as there has to be, but you get the impression that you've glimpsed his true self and that he really loves you.
Edit: Oh and I should also mention that Solas' romance might as well be called a lore-mance. If for nothing else, romance him for the feeling of serious connection with where the story is going!

To me it feels satisfying but definitely not complete. It needs more resolution. I don't mind the relative lack of romance content because you get so much of Solas in the other story elements.
On a different note: I'm playing Crestwood currently. I love that when Solas tries to mortalsplain to the Spirit of Command, she tells him to shut up and get back in line. LOL
I always take the hit on that discussion with Solas.
When he asks what Lavellan will do with the her powers, I go 'Ill get by with the help of my friends' cause really... thats how the Inquisition came about. People working together instead of pulling for their mages/templars/chantry side.
And Solas gets all pissy that groups get corrupted (now if you try to see things from his eyes, all institutions do get their purpose changed over hundreds of years and none will stay relevant for ever. He is right... over centuries)
I could say 'ill change things for the better on my own' and make him happy, but that would just encourage him in his selfish view of bringing changes onto people.
I agree with this sentiment, it's easy to make Solas happy and tell him what he wants to hear but it's not like his methods worked out peachy.. Time for him to learn that it can be done in a different way

Personally, I found it quite satisfying, even if it lacks in the resolution department. To me, it feels as if it is being set up for something more a bit later. Compared to the other romances it is quite shorter - three scenes - but what is there is written absolutely beautifully. "Bittersweet" is the most fitting word to describe it, I think.

I think I react less strongly on here than I did IRL. I pretty much cried the entire day after pahaha. Although the Solas romance was just the trigger, I did have other reasons that were starting to get too bottled up.

So, If we did have a gift scene with Solas what do you think we'd get for him?

I think it was Tielis who wondered if it might have some connection to Fenris's lyrium tattoos? It seems logical that there might have, at one point, been an element of control to them.
Yes, I surmised that the Tevinters were the ones who perverted them into the ritual that Fenris endured, but think of this: what if they still work?
The elven gods are released and now suddenly all the Dalish are splintered up and forced to obey their will and fight for them.
Hah! That would be ironic, since my Lavellan would never remove them. If they were an actual liability, I would have hoped Solas would be a bit more insistent.
I am still siding with them not being dangerous though, unless the shapes themselves are some sort of rune of power.
I would love to get him those frilly mini cakes he likes. I just love the contrast.
I feel like he's the type that enjoys the finer things in life. I wonder how he'd feel about wine (especially since it makes a lot of people sleepy). I bet if they could get past the whole hatred-of-mages thing, Fenris and Solas could bond over fancy foodstuffs.

Gonna wish you had Solas remove them, aren't ya?
It'd probably be the first time in a BW game that I've dodged a bullet, honestly. Usually I make the decision that eventually ends in tragedy.
OT but does anyone have a screenshot of a F!Lavellan in the Keepers Robes/Ancient Elven Robes?
If anyone else is as curious as me to how Solas responds in the final scenes of the game, I replayed it and tried all the options

I'm sorry -> It is not your fault.
It can't be repaired? -> That would not recover what has been lost.
But Corypheus is dead ->Yet so much has been lost.
The line he says after is the same for all of them "It was not supposed to happen this way" and then the final goodbye depending on you are lover or friend
Solas just needs to learn the merits of adding milk and honey to tea. It is fantastic.

Yeah, I agree. I think despite all his attempts at humility, there may still be a somewhat spoiled, upper class elf hidden in there. He does seem to go crazy over the drinks at the ball, so I would say he probably enjoys fine wine too.
I don't mind too much about xbox one being delayed. I think besides a few issues (I had to turn off my controller vibration bc it kept bugging during all new faded for her, we have had very few bugs compared to PC.
So, I might be mistaken, but is it my idea or one version of the Lavellan tarot card is a wolf or some sort of lupine creature? Sorry, had to point that out because it seems a very curious, yet specific (at least in my mind), choice for a tarot card

Lavellan's totem is either a wolf or a stag. I believe it is mage=stag, wolf=rogue, warrior. But some people reported getting a wolf mage too. Might be a glitch, or its tied to something else.
Whoa, whoa, whoa!!!! So just beat the game on my canon play through and I have some confusion on what the hell is going on with Solas. Can someone explain it to me please. So my whole play through I had a Human Male Mage, Dorian as LI, Cass as tank, and Cole as on the Spirit path. Morrigan took the power of the Well and my friendship with Solas was good imo. I respect him, did his side quest and let him do what he must when it came to the human mages.

So the orb was destroyed and Solas said it wasn't my fault and then he stayed back and vanished. Soooo after the credits end I get the scene between Solas and Flemeth(Mythal) where she calls him the Dread Wolf and I assume steals the Old god soul she got from Kieran as well as Mythal. So Solas is the Dread Wolf??! O.O

Or a little brown sugar/milk. Some honey has an odd taste to me.
Also, not sure if anyone put this up here yet but
Cypher translation:
do you honestly think it didn't break my heart to write some of that?
So maybe he doesn't dine with wine made with our tears.
maybe.

The number of disappearing/floating people I've found is ridiculous. Corpses in the skies! Random people in Redcliff randomly floating above our characters heads! Bull disappears constantly, but usually jumping on where his head is suppose to be makes him show up eventually.

Correct, he is. If you don't mind, read through the FAQ on the first post to see if there's any questions you have that are answered there. :3
