Any thoughts on what gave him the forehead scar? I'd love a banter where the companions try to guess how he got it.
Well, hopefully it was in battle, and he didn't get drunk at some rich elf party and hit his head on a wall or something like that.

Aight I'm going to be totally honest here. Did anyone else find Solas straight up ugly when you first saw him? I didn't follow DA:I development, so it was my first time learning about the new characters in the series.
Honestly? I agreed with the claims of him looking like Nicolas Cage- I couldn't get it out of my head when I saw pictures of him before release. I only tried his romance because I thought it must be plot-relevant to the female elf.
...And then after talking to him the first time, I really wanted to get to know him more- he is so interesting. After the first kiss and watching my Lavellan wake up from a dream, I found myself instantly taken by this character. That scene enchanted me
. Now here I am, a (heartbroken </3) fan.
Oh, and now I think he's quite handsome ![]()

It could also be that for whatever reason, she literally could not follow wherever he was going. I don't like this idea but some people have suggested that he's keeping her separate from his plans to protect her and I can't find any reason this might not be the case. If you want to get really dark, it could be because he has to be willing to sacrifice her to achieve his ends.
I really don't know where to begin on what he thinks he's fixing other than his line about the People needing him and Cole's lines about people behind mirrors and when "everything sang the same."
If Solas is heading where we all suspect he's heading, then the Inquisitor literally cannot come with him. Whatever terrible thing actually corrupted the Black City, it doesn't seem like something that mortals can safely come into contact with- I mean, look at what it did to Corypheus. Whether the blight was caused by the City's current occupants as a vengeful strike from beyond or whether they themselves may be (to some degree) subject to it is a matter for debate. Flemeth's spirit seems no worse for wear, but I'm still iffy on the timing of her escape.
There are some interesting connections between Andrastean belief and Cole's comments about back when "everything sang the same". There's a verse from Threnodies that goes:
Basically suggesting that the world before the veil (the world in which ancient Elves and spirits lived) could very well be described as a place where 'everything sang the same'. At this point there's definitely some interesting stuff -red herrings or not- about how both lyrium and the Blight sing to people, (possibly the original song of the fade) but I'm not enough of a loremaster to put together anything solid. I'm sure there are others who have.
As an aside: frankly, Andrastean belief seems to get way too much almost right not to have been influenced heavily (and then again twisted by time) by someone who knew a hell of a lot more about Thedas and the Fade than random mortals should have during that age. Like my earlier post, I see Solas' fingerprints and an attempt at social engineering in the Andrastean movement, but could be wrong.
ANYWAY.
Best case scenario, Solas is going to try to free what he can of the ancient elves trapped in the Black City.
"Worst" case scenario, he's out to bring own the veil entirely.
Worst, of course, having all kinds of assumptions wrapped up in it. A few posts here have knocked Solas for not having learned his lesson about trying to give people something they don't want without their consent... but the guy has a point. They can't ask for it, because he's one of very, very few in Thedas who know what that means, and what was lost. ...and he's damn stingy with details that aren't just florid descriptions of how great elvish architecture and magic was. Doofy wolf.
And I still think it's where the courser in Merrill's story bit him. I'd love to hear the true story as opposed to the legend.
(I may be biased due to my love of greyhounds.)
Oh, nice one. I love the little call-backs.
About his appearance, I chuckle now at my Twitter musings before I started playing. I was basically like "alright, I'm going to romance this cueball head with an attachment to spandex, this had better be good." My Twitter feed got really, really quiet after that, lol.
Judging by how he looks right before he leaves in the balcony scene for a non-romance Lavellan I think he's got it bad for our lovely Lavellan regardless of our part in it.
Spoiler
Edit: Sidenote. only 8114 more screenshots until i break the 9999 limit the default numbering is set up for. muahaha.
When you say non-romance Lavellan you just mean that you can reject him in this scene right? I don't remembering it pop up in playthroughs where I didn't romance him at all. Maybe because I do my best not to even talk to him or I get sucked in. Also he looks so sad, even though he broke my Lavellan's heart I still feel bad if he gets rejected!
That first picture of him was just...weird. So yeah. But I said before that I think Solas is one of those characters that really only shine once you can see them in motion. And then there are other characters that look better in screenshots and artworks.
I only found Dorian attractive at first (and even then...that mustache...), as opposed to previous DA games where I've thought the male LIs have always been very good-looking. I romanced Sols purely because he's an elf. And then I heard his voice, and did a bit of his dialogue and I was hooked. I have a pretty hardcore love of accents and they did a really good job animating his mouth during dialogue and ahhh.... ![]()
Well, hopefully it was in battle, and he didn't get drunk at some rich elf party and hit his head on a wall or something like that.
And...that's my new headcanon.
Speaking of, today in wild theories: why is Fen'Harel the only creator always shown to be not-elven? Even in the mosaic - where all of the other gods are elves - he is a wolf. His statues are all wolves. Was he always a wolf during the time of Arlathan? That would make some of the stories interesting (Looking at you Andruil).
Didnt' Zeus rape a couple people as animals? Gods and beastality isn't really new.
Weird but alright.

No. I was in a committed romance with Cullen when this triggered. I got this just before temple of Mythal because I sided with templars/Wardens this play and made him dislike me for a while. After *eventually* managing to get the approval up enough for his personal quest to trigger.
I would say Solas as a wolf was just a matter of shapeshifter's preferred form. He didn't seem to have many followers to remember him fondly as an elf. Or, statues of elf-Solas were destroyed.
As far as corruption goes...I am very curious to see if perhaps the elven gods may have been corrupted by being locked up with the forgotten ones for so long. There's a certain ominous undercurrent to the whole thing. Solas might not realize the full extent of what his prison did to them.
Thanks everyone, for the perspectives! I enjoy tearjerker and bittersweet romances, so this should be a lock for me. A little uneasy about the lack of content compared to other romances...but there has to be some reason why Solas is so beloved! ![]()
@ Vylix: Thanks for the tip about dragging Cole around -- hopefully, my next game will not be as bugged as my first one. In 70-80 hours, I got about 15-20 banters. Solas never ever talked to anyone when I took him out, so maybe that's part of the reason why I felt a little disconnected from him last time.
@Rynj: Hahaha, sold! I'm getting feelings of anticipation just reading your post. Love the heartbreaking romances, and it sounds like what the Solas romance lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality? It's a bummer there's no gift scene or kiss anytime scene, though. I guess that is what head canon is for...
I've honestly never liked the idea of kissing your LI anytime. It just doesn't feel... special.

I wonder if the anchor would allow the Inquisitor to follow? I'm not sure I believe the Black City is where they're sealed either. It's possible but Cole says behind mirrors, so somewhere in the Eluvian network seems equally likely.
Flemeth/Mythal was never sealed away. Mythal was murdered and her spirit possessed the mortal Flemeth. Her spirit was apparently just hanging around waiting for a good host.
Just because something worked a thousand years ago doesn't mean it will work now. I imagine that would be very bad for both people and spirits since they aren't used to living together anymore (if it's true they ever did) if it was done in the present.

So i hurt myself laughing at the Andruil comment. Thank you. ![]()

No but being able to kiss them anytime makes it feel like an actual relationship, which appeals.
It was his voice that got me. It was so hypnotic and soothing.
Didnt' Zeus rape a couple people as animals? Gods and beastality isn't really new.

It's not new, I just find it odd that he's consistently depicted that way, which doesn't seem to be the case for anyone else. I mean Mythal can become a dragon and has some dragon elements in her statues but she's still depicted as an elf in many places too. Maybe it was just a style choice to not give Solas' identity away (though a lot of the ancient elves seem to be bald and Solas-like anyway)

I am so interested in learning more about Blight magic. It seems like it's something that can be used (as Coryphefish uses it for the dragon), rather than simply a corruption or poison. It can also be cured, though no one can figure out how that happens. Solas views it as something entirely wrong, and I get the feeling that it didn't exist when he was awake the first time. Last night I was thinking it might have something to do with the absence of the sort of oversoul magic that seems to exist in Thedas, but now I can't remember where that logic came from. If anyone is more knowledgeable about the blight I'd love to read theories!
And your "worst" case scenario is still my favorite.

So...only the final romance scene is entirely romance-exclusive? Huh.

I wonder if they're behind one of the Eluvians
Also, Solas doesn't seem to know how to casually kiss Lavellan. Each of their kisses is...wow. Yowza.
So that last scene with Flemythal is so sad to watch (so of course I just watched it a few times). The way he almost falls into her arms, it just makes him look so sad and broken. The inquisitor never sees him so vulnerable. It really looks to me like a more maternal/ deep friendship relationship rather than two lovers.
I really hope he's just absorbing her power, and that her spirit just travels to another one of her horcruxes.
ETA top of the page Solas
I'll admit i was a bit sad for my lavellan when i saw the way he went to Flemythal at the end there, but thinking about it now, i can agree that Flemythal can be seen as a maternal figure to him, what with her being the supposed "maternal" goddess figure.
Imagine coming back from a wild ride just as he did and finally being able to let it all out/break down to someone who knows exactly where he's coming from--his frustration, sadness, and regrets about whatever he's done--I imagine romanced Lavellan crossing his thoughts in that scene as well ![]()
My blood pressure couldn't handle kissing him anytime I wanted.

I'd never finish the game. They'd have to introduce some sort of mechanic to limit the number of times you can kiss your companion in a row @v@
especially since I know what happens at the end TT.TT

The first time I had his kiss scene and those wet noises started going, my face went SO red. I could feel myself blushing! ![]()
Now I just imagine GDL making out with his hand in the recording studio and it ruins the moment a little.
But unf, yeah. The way Solas just devours Lavellan and tries to wrap his entire body around her while he does it. Talk about passion!

In that case I've already broken the limit. I have replayed Solas's damn Fade kiss so many times. I'm supposed to be on the second playthrough, but I think I'll just sit in the corner over here and replay Solas's scenes.

Rofl, I made another elf and I've replayed the first conversation you can flirt with him, back in Haven, so many freaking times. His voice and tone just OOZES sex appeal.

I wonder how it would've been
on the balcony?? near his desk?? would he have lifted her chin gently??

He would lift her chin, whisper "ma vhenan" and then kiss her deeply.
