Not long ago, I think 2 or 3 days?

I don't even know what started it, but it went pretty far apparently

If I find the tumblr post I'll show you the link

Edit:

Nope can't find anything anymore

Maybe it all got deleted?

Re: "The Mobbing Incident": http://peaceloveandcullen.tumblr.com/ explains it. I missed it on the forums as well. Scary stuff, actually,

Since Solas is open minded I hope he'll be capable of trying to understand why Sera might feel that way about Cole. You don't change people's minds by telling them how to think or insulting their intelligence. I personally don't see any reason not to be wary of Cole, and even though I'm not a fan of how Sera chooses to react, I think it makes sense for the character so it doesn't bother me. However, I would also be suspicious of Solas if he isn't shown to be cautious around spirits (including Cole).

One of the reasons I find Cole so interesting is because, especially now that he has some understanding of what he is and what he can do, he possesses the potential to be incredibly powerful and incredibly dangerous.  Add to that a moral code that's only just begun to develop, and a general naivety about how the world works, and, well, he's a lot like the Architect, actually - a character that I kill as often as not (always with the what makes more sense for this character to do debate attached).  I think not being wary of Cole is foolish, though I also think it's foolish (and counterproductive, if you believe he is capable of learning through experience) to continue to treat him as a threat when he has proven otherwise.

I imagine Solas is aware of this as well.  And i know I'm in the very great minority here, but of all the characters we've met so far, I think I like Sera the least.  Not because of her attitude toward Cole, though if she stubbornly refuses to move past it, it might become an issue.  I just tend to find her character type annoying, though I'm looking forward to getting to know her so she'll prove me wrong. Also, as pleasant and easy-going as Solas sounds, I'm sure there will be some type of conflict with him - because this is Bioware and how could there not be? (Even our super-bro Garrus did, even if it was more internal than with us.  Varric's was pretty brief, sure, but even then it was there.)

I also think that we'll eventually have some sort of conflict with Solas

Though I guess it might be easy to make him angry if you're against mages / freedom and the other things he values

Welcome, there's always room for more Solas fans! Glad to have you join the party, hope you enjoy your stay here :D

Is it just me or do the worst things happen to the Cullen thread? They get most of the trolls, people who spam the thread and just overall haters, I'm not sure if it's just people who honestly have something against Cullen or just target it because it's the biggest thread and an easy target because of that. I'm happy they handle it very well but it just doesn't seem fair for them. Especially because they seem just as lovable and kind as we are  :)

That's an interesting thing to speculate about btw - what do you think Solas's conflicts are going to be, in his character arc?

I think he might have to adjust to the whole being part of a group thing. He is probably more used to being alone or studying the fade than anything. Also we do not particularly know about his life in that village that he used to live in. Maybe something bad happend there that caused him to leave and it is haunting him?

So, ever since we got his actual reveal, my main concern with Solas is that he may have spent so much time in the Fade that his loyalties are deeply divided between the living and spirits/demons.  Yes, your average Thedosian is probably not very open-minded about the Fade and what's there, but by the same token, we've seen repeatedly that there are plenty of untrustworthy beings on the other side of the Veil perfectly happy to take advantage of the living to further their own agendas. I don't think he'll be quite as naive as Merrill (I really, really hope not, anyway), but his description made it sound like he did have a bit of that "curiosity overrides common sense" aspect to him. It worries me, because the Big Bad obviously has strong ties to the Fade, and may even be or be working with a powerful demon. It makes me wonder how much Solas will know about that, and where exactly his allegiances are. I mean, the guy turns up out of nowhere and has spent a lot of time in the Fade. Maybe he's completely legit...or maybe it is, as Patrick said, a little more complicated than that.

I feel like he has the potential to be a really important story arc, but I also think there's quite a high potential for eventual drama.

Edit: Meant to add that I was around when the mobbing happened, and the Cullenites are a bunch of sweethearts for handling it the way they did because it was really bad. I hope they get an AMAZING romance for all the trouble they put up with.

I read that link, and I can't believe people would go as far to do things like that... Poor Cullenites... hope it all blows over...

But about conflict with Solas, I hope, (and this applies to all party members) there won't be something along the lines of, pick one persons view, or one of them leaves/ hates/ betrays you. I don't think bioware would do that (right?), but the idea came to me today, and then I really didn't like that I thought of it

I guess my Quizzys will be like me, and try to get everyone to get along  And I always hate picking sides between friends..

Aww I come back and the party is over?!

Okay, this is the last one I swear, I just worked on it and it has to happen

tumblr_n87f3g6Hsj1re2bj2o3_r1_250.gif

Not sorry :P

LOVE IT!!

In any case...  If 40s is NOT older in Thedas (though it wouldn't surprise me if people mostly live around 65-70 in Thedas, it would make sense for the setting and how hard it seems to be to scrape by, unless you're very fortunate) then why is Solas going on about "kids these days" unless in jest?

Yes, 40s is old enough to have adult children, and yes, people in Thedas may even have children at younger ages (16-18) than we generally accept in the modern world but older than we would have expected in medieval times (or so I suspect).  But when I think of someone going on about "kids these days," I tend to expect someone older than that.  Late 50s, early 60s at least.

I'm somewhere in the under-40 range (not going to specify, but old enough that 40 is not "old" to me, even if it's above my personal age range preference at the present time), though, and I can sometimes talk about kids these days... if they're elementary school students or so.  So I guess it's feasible, it just doesn't seem like something a person in Solas's age range would do... unless he's considerably older than he's "supposed" to be.

'Course... he could still be a standard run of the mill apostate.

I'm 32 and I totally take part in "kids these days" type talks. Especially young kids (in a serious manner) I can't get over some of the stories my Kittens come home from school with! *horrified face* But I also like to tease some of my younger friends who are in their early twenties and teenaged family. lol Especially given the amount technology has changed in the real world in my time, it's fun. So, I don't think being in his early to mid forties puts him out of the age range for that.

I also don't think Patrick's reaction "sounded" like an obfuscation. He said, that's a good question! and immediately answered. I think he was honest. It is highly possible though that given his connection to history that he feels older though.

Yeah,  I'm agreeing with the idea that Solas' time in the fade may have had a huge effect on his outlook.  Can you imagine being able to experience the memories of people through time, I can imagine it would be very exhausting, potentially confusing, and would give perspective beyond ones years.

I wonder if what Solas does is actually what the ancient elves did. That is, he is not ancient himself, but that the ancient elves did not really live elongated lives in this world, but had access to all the knowledge that came before via the sleeping thing and that the practice was lost and then time confused the details.

Spamming apparently, which seems weird because of the amount of posts this forum gets I thought I would be considered a light poster. It's just now I have a warning point next to my profile and my OCD is crying right now. :(

Back to topic though, I do find Solas probably the most interesting character as we haven't seen a lot of Elven Apostates who aren't Dalish. I'm willing to bet that he is the blood mage of the group.

That really sucks, I'm sorry to hear that someone got a warning point over things in our thread. We normally handle things internally here and I've never even heard of any of us reporting someone.

I don't think he'll be using blood magic given what they've said about his methods due to being self taught. I get the feeling that his creativity gives him an edge where he doesn't feel the need to resort to blood magic and knows enough about the fade and it's denizens not to, as well.

Just realized. What if Team "Crushed Expectations" Sera/Cole/Solas is actually Solas being disappointed  in not getting to know who Cole is because Cole and Sera might be too busy arguing?

Or both Sera and Solas having different expectations of Cole (Sera always expects the worse from him and Solas probably expects him to be able to provide even more information about the Fade, demons and spirits), with Cole never meeting the expectations of neither.

Yeah, I followed the link, tried to read it and...I just...too much drama for me. I'm going to assume they are handling it, possibly with moderator help and just be glad that I'm not in the Cullen threads.

I'm interested in this "we can interrupt party conversations" thing. I know that occasionally I just wanted to be able to toss in an aside, but when Fenris would be terrible to Merril (one dialogue in particular) I wanted to punch him dead in the face and call the romance off!! I am hoping that we can put the cabosh on bickering and such.

Not so much "interrupt" but you'll have the opportunity to sort of throw yourself in it and say something instead of being the watching third party every time. We haven't the faintest on how it all works yet, mind you, but I love that this is a thing!

Maybe it could be like the occasional banters that had hawke just say something at the end but perhaps extended on to where they actually say something in the middle if the conversation.

<_< When I read the comment about maybe something bad happened that caused Solas to leave his little village my first thought was that it had better not be because his wife died or he had to kill his lover. Just please no.

I would find it more likely that he left to keep himself hidden and his family safe, or possibly because to sleep in ancient ruins you have to travel to get there and he just set off to wander and has been content to live his life that way. It's not like he could really settle down anywhere without risking someone learning he's a mage.

It could have been a massacre that happend there. It's a possibility he could have had family but he could have also had friends. I'm sure @Roxy was thinking of more than just a wife or lover getting killed.

Edit: His Fade abilities could also be a reason. Maybe he has been too concerned with his studies and travels to have really been involved in social matters outside of your occasional fellow traveler which could affect how he could be used to being around a group and working for a common cause.
