There are theories that if Solas was a spirit he was wisdom that turned into pride.  Wouldn't it make more sense.  That he turned from Pride to Wisdom.

That's BRILLIANT!

Also, here's something for the giggles:

I don't think he's made it to Wisdom yet.  I think he needs a few more nudges from Lavellan.   ;)

Lol. I don't think he's an actual spirit. But the comparison is the same. He was arrogant and prideful when he was younger and a bit more wise now.

That's adorable! I'm loving all this fic, even if most of it is one of three things: Steamy, depressing, or both.

Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely glad I romanced him on my first playthrough. I think, ultimately, all the other romances will pale in comparison. I pity the fool who didn't romance Solas on their first playthrough (sorry I just wanted to use that expression. I don't think you're a fool if you didn't).

It just hurts so much.....

So how would everyone's Lavellan explain their lack of vallaslin to other Dalish (if yours chose to do so?)

"Funny story, my ex-love Fen'Harel told me these Incredibly Culturally Important Tattoos were actually slave markings so he removed them with magic and then dumped me 30 seconds later."

Heh, I had a mixed reaction after I finished the game (which lasted until this thread helped me "heal")

On the one hand, beautiful romance.

On the other... omg it hurts  :crying:

My immediate thought after completing the romance and the game was 'hell yes, I'm going to play that character AGAIN.'  My Solavellan playthrough looks like it's going to be my canon.  Although I'm taken with my new Adaar/Sera playthrough...

Really? Cause I don't like it one bit, though I don't regret romancing Solas and love him to bits but getting your heart stomped sucks. I'm still optimistic that it's not over between them.

That's an interesting point.  Like when Solas is arguing on behalf of Cole becoming more like a spirit.  If Cole were to stay as a human, then he will eventually age and die.  However, his detachment and "spiritiness" keeps him from needing nourishment or anything "mortal".  Perhaps Solas functions on a similar level and so did all of the elves.  Population concerns would not really be a problem then in ancient Arlathan as I imagine they did not procreate lightly.  It would also explain his bipolar personality.  He is struggling not to get pulled into this world, but cares too deeply for the common man.

But what about the Dwarves? Didn't the elves interact with the Dwarves for a while before the quickening? Were the Dwarves immortal too?

If so poor humans...always gettin' left out.

Btw- anyone on Xbox one can ad me. My husband and I share so if you see someone playing Madden or CoD rest assured it's not me.

Yeah. There's also different demographics at play, too. In the BSN poll Solas is in third behind Iron Bull and Cullen.

Still, word of mouth-wise, despite how it ends, Solas's romance is getting a lot of positive feedback (and begging for more). Based on what I've seen on BSN, Twitter, and reddit at any rate.

And more good feedback and popularity means a better chance at DLC :D

And on a side note:

THE HAIR SHINE. </3

I also think my beautiful vibrant red hair is kind of uh.. orange-ish now.

I've had a few people comment on my earlier Solas romances videos on youtube saying, "aw, this is so sweet! This makes me want to go romance him now!"

And I just reply, "I'm sorry..."

It's an amazing romance, I just feel bad encouraging people get their heart stomped on.

I recommend getting your heart trampled on to anyone

I couldn't imagine trying to justify that to your Clan.  Maybe before she knew who he was, but the second she finds out that he was Fen'harel I can see her wondering if this was only another sick trick of the Dread Wolf.  Let's pretend that Lavellan doesn't think this, but her Clan will.  All of the modern Elvhen would turn against her and Fen'harel and any truth they tried to bring to them would be lost in the cries of "traitor".

Even if she finds out who Solas is, the world can never do so.  There is far too much myth and hatred towards Fen'harel.

Wow, you're right this is exactly how Morrigan fans felt.  I could never truly trust her in Origins and I don't typically play non-female characters, but her romance was pretty good in the game.  Kinda like Zev, but without the happily ever after.  My heart could not handle a year and a half wait, but I would wait if we could have an ending like that one.

Ps.  does anyone know what happens if you kill Morrigan in Witch Hunt?

Regarding Morrigan getting stabbed in Witch Hunt:

I must have a black heart. Although I am totally in love with the romance, I don't really feel...hurt by it? I am on board with the excitement to see where the story leads. Absolutely thrilled. I guess I don't really connect so strongly with 'my' character in games. Even though I am picking the responses, and I love to think about my character outside the game, I don't really see her as mine. She's like another character in this story.

I'm curious.  How many Solassians allowed him to remove their markings?  I turned his offer down due to believing that, whatever they meant in the past, they mean something else now.

Heh. I've actually been recommending his romance to all of my friends. It made me like Dragon Age as a setting significantly more than I did before. I actually feel like part of all the lore now.

And whoa, Solas is only a few votes away from the top spot in the romance poll!

Its such a meaningful choice from Lavellan pov as well as from the player's pov (since where in on the FenHarel part).

I mean whe was the last time a romance had such a character defining moment in it?

Morrigan and the ritual? Anders and the Chantry blowup? Those were not remance restricted.

There must be something im missing ...

I let him remove them, and I talked about my reasoning in the Sad/Angry Lavellan thread (but I'll copy/paste it here):

I don't know why, but I think that 'Immortals' by Fallout Boy (some might know the song from Big Hero 6) fits Solas and Lavellan, especially the first part!

This is what I think of for happy, badass, together Solavellan.  Which I'm still holding out for, even while I'm bracing for a second round of tears.

"Funny story, my ex-love Fen'Harel told me these Incredibly Culturally Important Tattoos were actually slave markings so he removed them with magic and then dumped me 30 seconds later."

You know that book Varric talks about writing?  My Lavellan's going to spin off of that idea and write down everything she's learned about the People, complete with maps and location samples if she can get them.  All the lore you learn in DA:I, all the revelations--that includes Fen'Harel and her relationship with him.

Then she's going to take the big old book of elven bombshells, get copies of it made, and get it into the hands of every Dalish clan she encounters.  Though she'll probably start with the friendlier and more open minded clans like her own.  As far as she's concerned, the truth is more important than her hurt feelings over Solas or the pride of the Dalish.

So much of DA:I is built around uncovering truth.  She's not going to discover all that only for it to be buried again.
