He's not an LI anymore, right? Having broken up?
That's actually when the romance officially "locks in"/gives you the achievement.

Are they though? To them, it is a symbol of crossing into adulthood. There's a whole ritual involved with it- you go out, make your kill, and then you have to stand having the tattoo put upon you without crying to prove to your tribe that you are no longer a child. They may represent beings who are not truly gods- but they still have strong personal meaning to each Dalish that receives them. I don't think Solas is fair in completely handwaving them and saying 'these are just the markings of a slave.' The Dalish haven't been slaves for thousands of years. Maybe he isn't proud of who they are, and maybe they've done some things wrong, but it doesn't change the fact that they have survived.
I don't mean to imply that I am against choosing to remove them or anything! An Inquisitor has every right to become disillusioned with the Dalish. I just don't think that Solas, or the Inquisitor for that matter, should think that their intellect can discredit what other Dalish see in those markings.
I don't think they would have kept the markings if they knew they were slave markings. They thought the marks represented something worthy in the past so they kept them as a tradition to uphold the past. And then they use that to differentiate themselves from other elves, considering themselves "true" elves and looking down on others when, really, the Dalish barely know anything at all. It just represents what bothers me about the Dalish so much.
I totally get why you'd see it differently, though! It's not an easy choice and everyone seems to come at it from a different perspective. I like seeing all the reasons people did or didn't keep them.

You get the achievement and are locked into the romance for the rest of the game. But regardless, his romance wasn't really resolved so I doubt they'd kill him before the arc gets a bit of closure.
They would if Kate Mulgrew has become too expensive for their budget.
Does anyone know the veracity of this rumor? I've heard it a lot, but if I'd been BW I would have made sure her contract extended for long enough at an affordable price to do whatever needed to be done for the story. It seems short-sighted to do otherwise for such a big character. But TBH I don't know how that works.
I just showed my friend Solas and she said "he looks like voldemort" and now I can't stop laughing lol XD
I honestly like that they went with the baldy look in the game because if he was all hot dreads and rarr I don't think his romance would be as emotionally moving; more would romance him cause he was "hot" than for what he adds to Lavellan's story. Not that romancing a character because they're hot isn't a good reason of course lol
At least Solas has a nose
I like the bald look too actually, to me he's got this weird beautiful in a really unconventional way thing going on
It would be awesome if we could see younger rebellious Solas with hair in a Fade memory in the future, though ![]()

Which I would be ok with.
But maybe BioWare is moving the story forward and unfortunately that means there's going to be casualties. I'm all for it, if it's done well. Inquisition really felt like a rebirth of sorts, or a jumping off point.
Just wanted to fling another song on the Solas-pile.
I think the lyrics speak quite well towards his past & duplicitous nature. Also, referring to Lavellan as "Rabbit" = adorbs.
Little fluffy bunny Lavellan
Though "rabbit" is also one of the racial slurs that the Orlesians use for elves, so I'm never going to be able to see that quite the same again.
If I had to pick a spirit animal for my Lavellan to go with the Dread Wolf, it'd probably be a starling. Resilient, intelligent, and obnoxiously fast.
My Lavellan turned him down for the same reason. She's a proud woman. Learning that they might have once been slave markings means nothing to her. She's no slave. In fact, it probably emboldens her further.
A lot has changed in her life. Her horizons have broadened. She's willing to accept that her gods might not even be gods at all, and that her people were wrong about many things. But that doesn't change her love for the Dalish, and her sense of pride in who she is and where she came from. Solas thinking she is an exception to the rule is probably the thing that threatens her relationship more than anything.
I like what you're saying with this and feel pretty much the same way. My Lavellan wasn't too sure what to make of this very Andranstian world she was in and her Dalishness (even if she really wasn't a typical Dalish) was important to her.
I really like one of the things you can say is that the 'Dalish have reclaimed them' and turn his offer down by saying 'no, they're important to me'
(and then when she says that he hopes he can look past them he gives her that LOOK and tells her she's perfect no matter what. All the feels, urgh)

I think it's just something we're guessing as to why they might stop keeping Flemeth around. I more or less say it half-jokingly, because Bioware can definately afford her. She's not in the games long enough to need more than a 1-2 hours recording session, and she's probably on a price level where its a few thousand dollars an hour.
As opposed to the big actors who are a thousand dollars a minute.

I do like how if you say that the "Dalish have reclaimed them", Solas will respond that he respects the Dalish for their resilience (IIRC).
Oh good. I'm not the only one with the slightly crazy Lavellan post break up. I no longer feel guilty jumping from massive heights at skyhold, and rushing head first into combat with everything. Eleri's a Knight-Enchanter. But still. I've head canoned it that she throws herself harder into combat than ever before. And recklessly. I might also think that Solas is having a minor heart attack every combat, and throwing barriers at her. ![]()

Ohhh yes! A memory of young Solas with that hair
Ugh I'd die to see that now.
I'm waiting to see what kind of hair mods come out for Solas lol I'll never use them of course but I can't wait :3
Did you guys see this? You can skip to the 3:00 mark to see the break-up. Sad Solas
His little head shakes when she was saying it were so sad.
Solas' walk at the end is reminiscent of a certain someone...
I no longer feel guilty jumping from massive heights at skyhold,
There is nothing werid about that. I think the Inquisition would worry if Lavellan stopped using that as her way around Skyhold.

This is why suddenly all the high dragons in Thedas are dead. At first I was like, "I don't want to kill the dragons, they aren't hurting anyone...they're living things and deserve our respect."
Then it was all, "well, might as well go out in a giant flame of dragon!"
Love this. Props to the artist!

Ask and ye shall receive (even though I just posted this, like, yesterday. One can never have enough young!Solas)

I guess I can't blame them too much for this, since looking down on elves seems to be something that comes all too naturally to their kind. Ancient elves look down on the Dalish, who look down on the city elves. Tattoos or not, elves lack unity and enjoy scapegoating the tier below them.
It might have been different if Solas was a city elf, but he's still coming at it from the perspective of...class, I suppose? He says nothing about how the Dalish see the tattoos, or how they use them against other elves. I think he sees Lavellan as like him. Not an ancient elf, but worthy of his heritage. In a way, I think he's removing the tattoos for exactly the same reason Dalish elves put them on.
But, I absolutely agree that it is fun to see what people make of it! I like musing on cultural things.
Love this. Props to the artist!

I may have also looked at the balcony in her room afterwards and gone "SOOOOOLAS WHYYYYY!" and thought of jumping.
I only recently started jumping off things everywhere at skyhold. I didn't know you could at first. ![]()

Hah. I haven't gotten to that point. My game is so buggy that I'm considering just restarting it entirely. I've missed so many things. But it physically hurts to throw away 110+ hours of work.
Solas is officially my new Alistair. I remade my Cousland so many times for Alistair. I think the count was something like 4 times. Then I started romancing Alistair with my Amell.. Which also got 2 play throughs.
I love how some of us have very different opinons on Dalish culture and the vallaslin, and there's no animosity or arguing. I see now why the Solas fan thread was regarded as a unicorn. So rare nowadays in the age of the internet. I stopped being active on forums and things like that years ago, because there was just far too many negatives.
Thanks Solas Recovery Wing for getting me back into conversing with people that share my interests. This thread has been a joy.
Sorry if this veers too much off-topic.
I never disliked the Dalish. Their history and lore always intrigued me. I admired them a bit for being so true to what they believe they come from. But my problem was they always seemed a bit xenophobic to me. (I think I am using that word in the proper context.) There's no denying that they are very mistreated. Awful, terrible things have been done to them. I always thought though that they added to the problem. Every clan is different, yes. But I always hated how a lot of them would treat City-Elves. Calling them Flat-Ears. They were no better than the humans that hated them. So self-righteous that their way is the "right" way.
Throughout Inquisition, because of Solas we've come to find out just how wrong they are. And it's sad. I just think about how they've mistreated their own kind (city elves) and other bad situations that happened. There was no way I could keep the vallaslin on my Lavellan after finding out the truth of their origin. I like that the Dalish have turned it into something different, that holds a lot of meaning for them. But at the same time they use those markings to show how they are "true elves" or however you want to look at it. Not all clans are like that. I know. Lavellan's clan is very open-minded. But looking at it big picture style, in broader terms; I didn't want them on her face anymore.
I think my Lavellan will eventually come to understand that much. But maybe in 10 years...
like its hard (at least for me) to RP her understanding that yes the markings have helped Dalish stay culturally alive, hence they are not bad and have a new cultural sense from the time Solas is from, but now they also represent a way of life that keeps elves apart (city and dalish) and prevent them from working together.
Theres like 3 levels of meaning to those things >.<
1) used to be slave markings to Elvhen
2) part of dalish identity. Their knowledge is flawed, but its better then nothing at all, and what else would you expect of a culture that lived with all the hardships over a thousand years ?
3) contributing to keeping elves apart in the future, hence 'why we cant have good things'.
I think my Lavellan will eventually come to term with having them removed but she will always feel guity inside that she did it for love and not for a logical reason even if she eventually realizes it could be for the better.
I agree! BSN has either cleaned up its act a bit, or Solas thread is just full of good folks. ![]()
I think it's time for my daily Solas Sigh.
I hope he comes back....
