I'm going with INTJ. Before the big reveal I suspected he was INTP, since he's all about gathering knowledge and inner wisdom, but it seemed more theoratical, however, knowing his real identity changes everything. He's not just someone with a vision or ideals and ancient knowledge, he actually turned a whole society/pantheon upside to fight for those ideals... which is something that fits much better with an INTJ.

I thought INTP before as well, but you make a good case. INTJ projects to the world a picture of thinking and rationality, the dominant trait is actually introverted intuition, and the tertiary (strong but mostly unseen) characteristic is introverted feeling. Someone who feels far more deeply than anyone around him suspects. Under stress, can act out of extraverted sensing, focusing on small exterior details that aren't really important (the vallaslin?) as a way to order the world.

My character is probably INFP, as I am- not that I tried to self insert but generally my first/ quintessential playthrough is pretty close to my own personality. So, it's space cadets in love. Now they just need to realize their quest for meaningful purpose can be shared.

I thought your analysis of him as INTP was a good one, though I suppose I could see him as INTJ as well. INTJ tend to come off as cold/ unfeeling/ distant, even if they actually feel strongly and are really invested in a relationship (though they usually don't get attached to most people). Though these are things that an INTJ can work on if they want to.

I'm also an INFP and my first PT was a self insert, I actually find it really hard to not self insert...

This my have been covered but... I've been thinking about the elven artifacts and their functions. They give you XP, Solas approval, and a bit of influence. Three wonderful side benefits.

 

The nature of the artifacts is curious, though. Solas claims they strengthen the veil, and I'm sure that's what they do when they are activated by the Inquisitor (perhaps there are other effects, too... various other effects, you can imagine), but I say they may have other functions because a demon, the Highest One, was sealed in an elven artifact. It can't be activated after defeating him. It's also in the Lost Temple of Dirthamen, if any of you would like to take a look. And it'd be another indicator to Lavellan, or any other Inquisitor, that there's something up with Solas, 'cause hey, there's an elven artifact!but what--a demon was sealed inside???? i thought they only strengthened the veil

 

of course, none of this matters if the artifact was put there just to look pretty

 

Nooo, I'm totally with you on this.  (Though none of my playthroughs have managed to trigger Solas' post-"All New, Fade For Her" personal quests, so there may be dialogue in there that gives the things more context.) 

 

Aside from doing noticeably nothing even when activated close to rifts/existing demons, for me the most damning evidence is what you mentioned in Dirthamen:  the item that finally releases The Highest One is most definitely one of the artifacts.  So much for strengthening the veil. 

 

If it weren't Bioware, I might chalk it up to lazy prop artists.  But it is, so treating as clue that Solas is actually weakening the veil / preparing to release something big until convinced otherwise.

I might be opening a can of worms by asking this (not sure if this has been asked before), but what are your opinions on Bioware making Solas straight? I ask this because I've seen people complaining (on Tumblr mainly) on how there's no reason for Solas to be straight. Aside from the possibility that Bioware probably had limited resources, I'm not sure how Solas being a straight man should be a problem. (I mean, maybe he just likes women? It happens.) I don't hear people complaining on how Blackwall and Cullen are straight but maybe it's because they're not really under my radar.

 

I mean, I loooove the Solas romance, and it works well as it is but I just want to know what you guys think if a male Lavellan was able to romance him?

 

 

I'm not sure.  I'm probably opening a whole other can of worms, but maybe he's gender-gated for the same reason as Morrigan?  Maybe there's a plot-baby in the future?  That's my only guess, honestly.  And I'm probably way off

I just finished the Dirthamen sidequest last night, and had the opposite impression from Solas' elven artifacts. For his artifacts, it seems that we are turning them on, as once activated they change to green with the shield. But in Dirthamen, when you interact with the artifact it's already glowing green, and then that goes away when The Highest One is released.

 

[Edit: I did also try 'activating' it again after the fight because it was not glowing, but that was a no go.]

 

So, to me, it seems that by helping Solas' we are helping in keeping something locked away and/or in fact strengthening the veil so spirits can't get across.

So when I was fighting Cory...

​...he started insulting my Lavellan and told me that they used to call us (Elves) Rattus. Afterwards he said something like "Oh you brought another Rattus with you!" which of course meant Solas since Sera was not with me. Now I am wondering under what circumstances Solas gave Coryfeenus the orb. Since he acknowledged that Solas was with me but didn't say anything suggesting he got the orb from him, it makes me think that Solas "arranged" for Cory to "find" the orb and that Cory has no idea about Solas/Fen'Harel. Maybe he just thinks he got lucky finding some old elven artifact in a random ruin, which makes sense why Cory would send his Venatori to search EVERY ruin that is to be found in the game.

Also does anyone know what the Solas fans are calling themselves? Like the Cullen fans are Cullenites. What are we? Solassians? Solasinators? Solasinites? Soverybrokenhearted?

INTP vs INTJ, I find his humour and open mindedness more P? I do tend to mistake INTJ's for INTPs, which is strange being INTP myself. Then I get to know them better and they really are not open minded in the same way, at all. I find find them attractive though, the intellectual battles can be... stimulating!

The other day...when Lavellan told Morrigan to back off when they were at the Well of Sorrows...it felt like she and Abelas had something there. It was the way he looked at her. I think Solas sensed it, and that's why things turned out the way they did.

 

Yep. No problems or projection here. I'm still waiting for an Abelas thread that I'm too lazy to make myself. Is it bad that it feels like I'm cheating on a fictional character when I discuss another fictional character in the first fictional character's designated thread? The correct answer is yes. I thought I'd be more normal this close to 25.

As far as for why Solas isn't bi, I have the following theories in no particular order:

 

- Budget. Solas and Cullen were added towards the end, and it was simply easier to record only one line of dialogue.

- Solas does not actually appear to be a 'god' in the sense that he is beyond gender and sexual preferences. Limiting his options also shines doubt on how truly godlike he is.

- Worst case: they know the romance is doomed, and want to limit the pool of people getting broadsided by it. 

- All elves have been bisexual at this point, perhaps they didn't want to continue to play up this fact.

- Pregnancy plot may have been once considered, then scrapped.

- Solas is an arrogant **** who wants one true pureblooded waifu.

 

If I had to guess, a mixture of budget and worst case scenario. We already lack the same amount of scenes as other romance characters do, so I would side with the budget one. 

 

Edit: In fact, can a non female-Lavellan even flirt with him? If they can't, then I think that's our answer. [Budget]
